THE CONSTANTIA UPPER Monthly Newsletter

DEAR CONSTANTIA UPPER RESIDENTS,

Welcome to our monthly newsletter, where we share property insights and highlight upcoming activities for you to enjoy.

As winter settles in across Cape Town, many communities have been severely affected by harsh weather conditions. Heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and icy conditions have caused damage to roads, properties, and public spaces. Fallen trees, damaged homes, and disruptions to daily life have impacted many families, particularly those living in informal settlements. Animal shelters and rescue organisations are also under immense strain as they work tirelessly to care for vulnerable animals during these difficult conditions.

During this season, we encourage the Constantia Residences community to lend a helping hand wherever possible. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference to families, rescue organisations, and animals in need.

Below are some worthy organisations in and around the Constantia and Southern Suburbs area that welcome donations, volunteer assistance, blankets, food, and essential supplies:

THE CONSTANTIA VILLIAGE SHOPPING CENTRE

Over the coming days vunerable communities will need a helping hand. They would like to highlight the organisations they have partnered with and how you can help:

U-turn - you can buy vouchers and give to those experiencing homelessness as an alternative to cash. Vouchers can be redeemed at any U-turn service centre and are valid for a meal, a night in a safe space, a clean change of clothes or a shower. Purchase them from Kwikspar Alphen, Constantia Pharmacy or at their info desk. Donate preloved clothes by dropping them in our boxes in centre.

Make peanut butter and jam sandwich loaves for Ladles of Love and drop off at the info desk. They take non-perishables too.

Donate any petfood, new or pre-loved blankets, bedding or baskets to Animal Lifeline donation box at their info desk.

No contribution is too small. Thank you for always supporting our community.

TEARS Animal Rescue – Supports vulnerable communities and rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes animals across the South Peninsula. Donations of pet food, blankets, and financial support are always needed.

We encourage residents to donate warm blankets, non-perishable food, pet food, old towels, clothing, and any essential supplies that may help those facing hardship this winter.

Together, as a community, we can bring warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.

Warm regards, Your Team at Pam Golding Properties

CONSTANTIA FAVOURITES

As the Constantia Valley settles into winter, there’s a particular pleasure in escaping the rain for a glass of red, a flat white or a long lunch beside a crackling fire. From vineyard restaurants to cosy cafés, these Constantia favourites come into their own during Cape Town’s colder months - offering warm interiors, generous hospitality and fireplaces that invite you to linger a little longer.

Fireside

favourites in Constantia

JONKERSHUIS CONSTANTIA

Set beneath ancient oaks at Groot Constantia, Jonkershuis has one of the valley’s most atmospheric winter settings, with intimate indoor fireside seating and a relaxed country feel. Ideal for lingering breakfasts, Cape Malay-inspired lunches or slow Sunday afternoons after a wine tasting.

SIMON’S RESTAURANT

A Constantia institution during winter, Simon’s pairs generous comfort food with oversized fireplaces and vineyard views. The dining room becomes especially cosy on cold evenings, making it equally suited to family lunches, casual dinners and post-walk coffees.

FOXCROFT RESTAURANT

For something more refined, Foxcroft offers polished contemporary dining with a warm, intimate interior that comes into its own during fireplace season. Think elegant small plates, excellent wine and a sophisticated winter atmosphere.

LA BELLE BISTRO & BAKERY

Tucked into the historic Alphen estate, La Belle is a relaxed all-day spot where locals gather beside the fireplace for coffee, pastries and unhurried lunches. Its old farmhouse charm makes it especially appealing on grey Cape Town mornings.

NEST DELI

While better known for its garden setting and deli-style menu, Nest offers a warm, homely atmosphere in winter and works beautifully for daytime meetups, breakfasts and leisurely coffees after a Constantia wine route outing.

OLD TOWN ITALY CONSTANTIA

A lively blend of café, deli and restaurant, Old Town Italy becomes particularly inviting in colder weather, with rich Italian comfort food, excellent coffee and a cosy interior perfect for lingering over lunch.
