Why We Give To St. Lucy’s The Inkrott Family Supports St. Lucy’s to Help Ensure School Remains Strong For Years to Come
T
he Inkrott’s have deep roots in the tri-school community as a second generation family at St. Lucy’s. Eric Inkrott, along with his younger brother, attended Damien in the 1980’s, and his two older sisters are St. Lucy’s alumnae. Today, Eric and his wife, Sarah, have twin daughters, Emily ’19 and Kathryn ’19, who are sophomores at St. Lucy’s and their daughter Amy 17’, is a senior. “When our family returned to the area after living in Arizona for several years, we looked forward to sending our girls to St. Lucy’s to extend the tradition of our family and close friends,” says Sarah. “We knew at St. Lucy’s our girls would be surrounded by people who share our values.” Most importantly, Sarah and Eric felt that their girls would flourish both academically and spiritually at St. Lucy’s. The Inkrott’s believe that an excellent education can come at a price that can exceed tuition. They believe that direct involvement in the St. Lucy’s community is an essential part of the partnership between their family and the school and have found many ways, both big and small, to give of their time and resources. “We’ve broadened our connection to the school by finding ways that fit our family’s schedules, from helping on Ecology Days to running clocks at water polo games,” says Sarah.
2
Giving back financially is also important to the Inkrott’s to help St. Lucy’s attract and maintain a qualified teaching staff, keep up with the latest technology, support the tuition of those in need and provide a variety sports options for the students. They feel that donations from parents and alumnae are essential to the school’s success, and they want to do their part in any way they can. When asked how her daughters have benefitted from their high school education, Sarah says that it’s the uniqueness of the school and the pride her girls have for St. Lucy’s. “My girls love their school,” she says. “They appreciate the beauty of the campus and know they’re unique when they pray together before their classes, tests, games and competitions. They also appreciate the all-girl environment as a place where they can learn and grow with a little less pressure.” Every time Sarah and Eric visit the St. Lucy’s campus, they are proud of the time and money their family has been able to contribute to this generation of Regents. “Our school is helping young women get ready for life armed with intelligence, a moral compass and a sense of community.” St. Lucy’s is very grateful to the Inkrott’s and to others who make sacrifices on behalf of their daughters and others in the school community.
a message from the executive director of advancement & external relations It is so wonderful to be back at St. Lucy’s and be an official member of the Regent family. I have very fond memories of my two daughters attending St. Lucy’s and supporting them at their numerous track meets, with my husband serving as the sprint coach. Those memories will stay with me always as a reminder that one of the best decisions I made was to enroll my daughters in St. Lucy’s Priory High School. The young ladies that they have become can, in large part, be attributed to the lessons they learned here both academically and spiritually. To this day, I thank God for the blessings that they received at St. Lucy’s. For those of you who have daughters at St. Lucy’s, who have had daughters attend or have attended, you know exactly to what I am referring. The education, the molding of your daughters as young ladies, the development of self esteem and self confidence can all be attributed to the environment that the girls receive while attending this very special all-girls high school. The stories that the girls share once they leave St. Lucy’s, or even while they are still here are so endearing. They remind us that we are building character, shaping young lives and developing future leaders.
Your partnership with our school will help ensure that we are here for another 50 years for future St. Lucy’s Regents. However, we cannot move forward in ensuring that this school remains competitive and vital without your help. Your contribution of time and resources is so critical. Our girls deserve the very best in their high school education. They deserve the best technology, AP classes, faculty, sports facilities and, most importantly, the best spiritual environment that remains steeped in the Benedictine culture, a key element in their being as they grow and mature to become strong young women and future leaders. How can you support St. Lucy’s so that our girls can have cuttingedge programs moving forward? You can continue to support the annual Christmas Boutique and BASH with not only the minimum requirements, but also by raising the bar to secure donations from people you know in the community. The more we grow these annual special events, the more funds we will have to provide a world class education for your daughters. When you are called to help, say, “Yes!” Your enthusiasm and dedication to bettering the education that your daughters are currently receiving will require the efforts of all of us. And, finally, as we move to increase our school’s philanthropic efforts, please know that we do this earnesty and with a sense of excitement. Financial resources will ensure that your daughters and those of future Regents will remain competitive when they leave in the world in whatever field or career they choose.
Sincerely,
Yulanda N. Davis-Quarrie, M.S., CFRE Executive Director of Advancement & External Relations

She loves teaching science and would like to help Algebra 1 and 2 and AP Calculus, and Sara teaches Anatomy, her students find the same passion and excitement for the Environmental Science and AP Biology. subject that she has. Marie is a 2015 graduate of Vassar College who developed a love for math during high school as a student of retired teacher Terry Smelser. It was Terry’s passion and enthusiasm for teaching that inspired Marie to pursue a math degree in college. While at Vassar, she became a math tutor to high school students struggling in the subject. This is when Marie realized she wanted to become a math teacher after graduating.

When asked about her favorite experiences as a St. Lucy’s student, Sara remembers the strong values and sisterhood and the spirit rallies. Her favorite classes were biology, English, French and chemistry. Sara earned a B.S. degree in biology from the University of La Verne and a M.A. degree in education from the University of Southern California.

JOIN THE
We proudly welcome the young girl in your life to take her first step in joining our Regent family by becoming a Lucy Cub! As a Cub, she will connect with current St. Lucy’s students as well as other young girls who aspire to be future Roarie Regents! In 1962, St. Lucy’s Priory High School adopted the student body symbol of a Regent, which means “One Who Rules,” and designed the school seal to feature a lion rampant representing the coat-of-arms of St. Benedict and St. Scholastica. Keeping with this theme, the student body mascot became Roarie: a lioness built on confidence, character and scholarship. By registering, St. Lucy’s will give your Cub opportunities to grow in fellowship with her Regent family. For example, she will receive notes and special goodies from junior or senior Regent Ambassadors and will be invited to special events on campus.
Register online at stlucys.com under the Admissions tab. If your Cub is in Kindergarten–5th Grade, she will register as a Little Lucy Cub. If your Cub is in 6th–8th Grade, she will register as a Junior Lucy Cub. Any questions? Please contact Ms. Katie Rossi ’03, Director of Admissions and Public Relations, at (626) 253-9388 or krossi@stlucys.com.

I want my daughter to attend St. Lucy’s one day, because I truly believe there is no better place for a young woman to grow and explore. Being surrounded by likeminded women with good moral upbringings at a young age can really make a difference in the decisions you make for the rest of your life. St. Lucy’s provided that for me as a student and so much more. —Katie Skeehan Miller ’03
The St. Lucy’s experience taught me that women can do whatever they set their minds to. Together with the strong upbringing from my parents, St. Lucy’s gave my sister and me the solid base of self-confidence, along with a strong education, to help us throughout our lives. I would choose St. Lucy’s for my niece so that she could experience the sisterhood that develops as the years go by and so she could have that small-school, faith-based education that will strengthen her for years to come. —Christine Miller Ceccarelli ’84

St. Lucy’s Alumnae Reconnect and Discover They Had A Lot More In Common Than They Realized

California. She sat at a table with collegues and started up a discussion about where everyone grew up and went to school. Karly Kraushar Kennedy ’91 told the group that she grew up in La Verne and Upland and went to a high school called St. Lucy’s. Roxane could not believe that another St. Lucy’s alum was among the group and the two instantly became fast friends. A few years later, Roxane was talking with a collegue who was an intern for Irvine USD, and they began chatting about were they grew up. Again, Roxane discovered another St. Lucy’s alum, Angela Monteilh Weedn ’95. Next, Roxane met Margaret Ingalls Crinella ’90, an Irvine USD teacher at the time, at a collegue’s wedding, and then she met Kristen Alosi DiGiuseppe ’02, whose aunt asked Roxane to be a reference for Kristen, who was applying for a job with Irvine USD. The last St. Lucy’s alumna that Roxane encountered was Melanie Knight Hertig ’87, who joined the Special Education Department at Irvine USD two years ago as the Executive Director. It is amazing that these women, who graduated in different years from St. Lucy’s, would end up working in the exact same field for the same school district in Orange County. But, what truly is impressive is how they all were influenced by their
posed to all six women and their insightful answers.
What are some of your fondest memories as a St. Lucy’s student? MKH: “It would be the friendships. Through adulthood, we have all been there for each other, in good times and bad, and an occasional Duran Duran concert!” MIC: “Taking a sewing class with Ms. G and actually making and wearing my prom dress and eating lunch from the food trucks with my girlfriends.” KKK: “Playing tennis for the school with some amazing girls and going to CIF playoffs, with my parents driving us to Palm Springs on their anniversary. All the football and basketball games with pizza at Pizza Hut afterwards. And, how can I forget the senior retreat and the beach house after our senior year!” RO: “Sister Mary Angela’s history class with her “aha!” finger in the air asking us, “Why do you think that happened?” And, as a freshman, being kidnapped by seniors and then being a senior and kidnapping!” AMW: “The chicken sandwiches from the food truck. I still dream about them!” 9
“I believe that the success in my life today was made possible by the opportunities I had at St. Lucy’s that helped shape me into a confident young woman.” —Melanie Knight Hertig ’87
KAD: “The wonderful friendships I made. I’m happy to say that the friendships I made at St. Lucy’s are still my closest friends.”
What were some important values and lessons that you learned while at St. Lucy’s? MKH: “St. Lucy’s created an environment that built my confidence, encouraged my individualism and supported my Catholic faith development. I felt that we all were encouraged to engage in excellence, think critically and celebrate girl power! I think that I also learned what empathy means which has had a great impact on my career choice of special education.” KAD: “The importance of working hard, staying committed and persevering are important values I learned while at St. Lucy’s that I use every day.” KKK: “Determination and the ability to rebound from setbacks that might come my way.” MIC: “I learned that I wanted to do something with my life. I was motivated to make a career for myself.” RO: “To be true to myself and that I have a voice. To think of others and lead by example. To be a lifelong learner.” AMW: “It’s okay to make mistakes. Mistakes help you learn and grow. I learned to focus on my strengths and not to let mistakes and weaknesses define who I was.”
What were some challenges you encountered while in high school? MKH: “Having my father as head chaperone at all the dances!” KKK: “It took some time getting used to the transition from public middle school to a private high school, but I’m glad I did!” AMW: “I was shy (I still am!) I had a great group of core girlfriends, but I always wished I could have been more outgoing.” MIC: “I wasn’t the most academic student, so some of the classes I had to take were challenging, especially math and French!”
10
How did St. Lucy’s prepare you for your current career? MKH: “I was very fortunate to participate in ASB as Social Chairman and later as Senior Class President. These early leadership opportunities gave me the confidence to take on my first leadership role in Special Education.” KAD: “I remember so many influential relationships made with friends, teachers and coaches that showed me how powerful people can be when they are genuine and invest their time in others. As a Special Ed teacher, I always try to create these kinds of relationships with students, teachers and parents to help me find the most effective strategies with the best possible outcomes.” KKK: “Hardwork, flexibility, time management, compassion and understanding.” RO: “I loved Sister Elizabeth Brown’s peer counseling class and psychology class. After a career in business, I returned to education with the idea that I wanted to be a school counselor like Sister Elizabeth.” AMW: “St. Lucy’s instilled a life-long passion for learning that I continue to nurture in a field I absolutely love.” MIC: “St. Lucy’s helped me become more motivated to want a career and showed me a camaraderie with my peers that I also wanted in my work life.”
Any other memories about how St. Lucy’s influenced you? RO: “I look back on my time at St. Lucy’s as being a force of shaping who I am today. I don’t think I would be as strong and independent as I am without the influences of its teachings. I remember being fascinated and later telling people that at a Catholic school, we were encouraged to look at and understand other religions. Today, I lead and treat others the way I want to be treated and work collaboratively.” AMW: “I love the connection I feel to St. Lucy’s alumnae. It’s like a special sisterhood and bond that is unexplainable and different from other high schools.” MKH: “I believe that the success in my life today was made possible by the opportunities I had at St. Lucy’s that helped shape me into a confident young woman.”

giving back to st. lucy’s Why Have A Will? Regardless of your life circumstances or estate size, your will is perhaps the most important document you will create. It expresses your values and also effectively provides for the people and charitable causes important to you. If you’ve been putting it off, here are eight important reminders why you need a will. 1. Without a will, your state’s laws—not you—determine how, when and to whom your property is distributed.
5. You may create trusts to provide for your spouse, children and others.
2. You can reduce (or maybe even eliminate) future estate taxes.
6. Through a “pour-over” will, you can transfer leftover assets to your living trust.
3. You can name your executor (a person, bank or trust company you choose to personally represent you) to manage and settle your estate.
7. You can support St. Lucy’s Priory High School through a gift in your will, which is simple, flexible and revocable at any time.
4. You can designate beneficiaries for items such as heirlooms, art, jewelry or real estate.
8. You can designate the guardian for dependents under your care.
Important Reminder If you already have a will, make sure it’s up-to-date. Life changes such as grown kids; births, deaths or marriages; increased estate value; or a move to another state should be a trigger to meet with your estate planning attorney to review your will.
How to Remember Us in Your Will or Living Trust If you would like to support our mission after your lifetime, ask your estate planning attorney to add this suggested wording to your will or living trust: I give to St. Lucy’s Priory High School, Glendora, CA (the sum of $ of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) for its general purposes.

percent
Consider one of the simplest ways to support our mission by naming St. Lucy’s Priory High School as beneficiary in your will or living trust.
