FORMER TRUSTEES’ RECEPTION

On March 16, in The Perry Library, Dr. John P. Lewis, Head of School, and Mr. Mark A. Kelly, Chair of the Board of Trustees, held the second annual reception honoring the Founders and Former Trustees of Cape Henry Collegiate School. The reception was designed to give the Founders and Former Trustees a firsthand glimpse of the many good things that take place on Cape Henry’s campus today. It was wonderful to hear so many heart warming stories from the guests about their involvement with the School through the years.

It is with great pleasure that the Cape Henry Collegiate School Trustees announce their unanimous endorsement of Mr. James H. Sparks as Chairman of the Board of Trustees beginning July 1, 2005.

Jim Sparks has served as a Trustee since 2002 and has been the Chair of the Annual Giving campaign for the past two years. Jim is the President and Owner of American Borate Company, the Founder and President of Packaging Concepts, LLC, and the Owner, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Operating Officer of Active Minerals, Inc., a worldwide corporation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Mining Association Foundation, is a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, and served on the International Business Council.

Jim is a graduate of Indiana University and his wife, Karen, graduated from the University of Michigan and Pepperdine University. They have two daughters, Kristin and Lauren. Both are graduates of Cape Henry Collegiate School. Kristin is a senior at Boston University, and Lauren is a sophomore at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

We extend our most sincere gratitude to Jim for agreeing to serve in this very important leadership capacity and to his entire family for their unyielding support of Cape Henry Collegiate School.

It is with great pleasure that the Cape Henry Collegiate School Trustees announce their unanimous endorsement of Mr. Michael Gianascoli as a new member of the Board of Trustees beginning July 1, 2005.

After graduating from CHCS in 1989, Mike went to Virginia Wesleyan College where he played baseball. Upon graduating with a degree in Liberal Arts Management, he worked for IKON–Copy Data as a customer service representative and manager of government accounts. Acquiring his real estate license in 1996, Mike joined Gee’s Group, a family-owned real estate company, and is now the Chief Operating Officer.

Mike is also involved with the City of Virginia Beach’s Neptune Festival where he has served as Chair of the Neptune Festival Golf Committee since 2003. He serves as a member of the Virginia Beach Vision, an organization of business leaders that has its pulse on current controversial issues citywide; is a member of the Navy Services League, a support group for the military; and is on the Board of Directors for First Tee, a ninehole golf facility for kids in Virginia Beach, which is part of an international program created by the World Golf Federation. As a member of the CHCS Alumni Association Board of Directors, Mike served as Vice President, assisted with numerous fundraising efforts, and has been instrumental in planning alumni events over the past six years.

Mike and his wife, Lisa, have a four-year-old daughter, Gabriella, a two-year-old son, Joseph, and a new daughter, Annika Mya, born on May 12, 2005.

GENERAL LOUIS J. FORTIER LEADERSHIP AWARD ALLISON BLAND

SENIOR SPEECH AWARD NICHOLAS MELVIN, SEAN MCKEITHAN*, AND ARIA BRANCH*

This annual award is given by L. Renshaw Fortier, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cape Henry Collegiate School in honor of his father, General Louis J. Fortier, who saw combat in four wars of the United States. A plaque in the School records the names of all the winners. The Fortier Award, the most prestigious of awards for seniors, was presented at the Upper School Awards Assembly.

Cape Henry encourages students to speak for themselves whether it is to defend a point they believe in, to offer their opinion in a classroom, or to make an announcement at a student assembly. Presenting a well researched persuasive speech is a graduation requirement. The recipient of the Senior Speech Award is selected by the Upper School faculty.

GRACE OLIN JORDAN LITERARY AWARD AMANDA SCOTT The Grace Olin Jordan Literary Award was established by the Board of Trustees in 1972, honoring Mrs. Jordan, the last Headmistress of the Everett School, our predecessor institution. The award is presented to a senior who, in the opinion of the history and English faculties, has consistently demonstrated excellence in literary work. A plaque, which hangs in the School records the names of the recipients.

THE GOODWIN SHEPARD JORDAN LOYALTY AWARD JENNIFER MILLER The Goodwin Shepherd Jordan Loyalty Award is given by a former faculty member, Anne Dickson Jordan, in memory of her husband, G. S. Jordan, to a senior who has shown outstanding dedication, support, and loyalty to the School.

The award is designed to recognize a student or students whose commitment does not bring instant attention and public recognition.

Richardson Commitment to Diversity Award is given to a senior who has been involved in student organizations that promote diversity, who embodies and personifies the principles of diversity and pluralism, and who has been a pioneer in efforts to make Cape Henry Collegiate School a diverse environment.

THE ARTHUR PEREGOFF AWARD MISSY REDMOND The Arthur Peregoff Award is given in memory of Arthur Peregoff, Founder, former Board Chair, and loyal supporter to the spirit and the Mission of Cape Henry Collegiate School. The faculty selected award is given to at least one and no more than two seniors who, in the opinion of the faculty, are deemed worthy of recognition for their positive contributions to Cape Henry Collegiate School.

THE CATHERINE SISCOE LEWIS CAPE HENRY FAMILY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD SAMMIE L. LOGAN, JR. The Catherine Siscoe Lewis Cape Henry Family Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an individual’s extraordinary achievements for the benefit of Cape Henry Collegiate School’s interest. The annual award is given to an individual selected from the Trustee, student, faculty, staff, alumni or friend of the Cape Henry Collegiate School family. The award is presented each year at the graduation ceremony.

DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR’S SOCIETY ARLENE INGRAM, HELEN JOHNSON, AND ALICE MEREDITH Distinguished Educator’s Society, formed in 2005, honors those educators who have served Cape Henry Collegiate School for a minimum of twenty-five years.

CAPE HENRY COLLEGIATE SCHOOL “SURVIVORS” These honorees are members of the Class of 2005 who have attended Cape Henry Collegiate School and have survived 13 or more years of continuous, unbroken education at CHCS. STUDENT AND FACULTY ACCOMPLISHMENTS LOWER SCHOOL Ms. Laura Grady’s Lower School ExploraVision Winners, Kyle Mytelka, Kristen Parnigoni, Ben Plotnick, and Albert Alexander, were interviewed by both WVEC-TV and WAVY-TV, had a feature article in The-Virginian-Pilot’s Beacon, and appeared in USA Today.

This year’s NASA “My Planet Earth” national winners: Second Place–Ms. Lisa Wood’s Fourth Grade Language Arts class; Third Place–Ms. Laura Lechler’s Language Arts class; Honorable Mention– Ms. Elaine Corter and Ms. Kelly Christianson’s classes.

In May, Hope Wheeler, a rising First Grade student, auditioned and was accepted for the Virginia Children’s Chorus. As a Kindergarten student, Hope sang the “National Anthem” at a Lower School assembly and at Senior Day for the Varsity Field Hockey Team.

The Israeli String Quartet “Ariel” performed in April for Middle and Upper School assemblies.

It was truly a wonderful coincidence to have them visit Cape Henry while our Israeli exchange students were here.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Congratulations to the Intramurals Plus Computer Club students and their coach, Mr. Michael McDonald, for their great work at the 20th Annual Great Computer Challenge at Old Dominion University. The Desktop Presentation group, Jay Windsor, John Hurley, and Hollis Camp, placed second out of 23 schools. The Desktop Publications group, Ashley Ireland, Kendall Tompkins, and Joe Levin, also represented CHCS well.

The Youth Art Month winners for Middle School division were: First Place, Clarke Templeton; Second Place, Forrest Norman; Third Place, Crystal Galloway.

This year, the Seventh Grade camping trip was to West Virginia where students embarked upon many outdoor adventures. The trip was a huge success.

Eighth Grade students, Guro Lekven and Matt Devendorf, placed in both the state and national French Exam Finals.

Guro received a silver medal placing first in the state and third in the United States, and Matt received a bronze medal placing fifth in the state and seventh in the United States. They are pictured here with their French teacher, Mrs. Michelle Hinck.

Eighth grader Delaney Oksman, shaved his head for St. Patrick’s Day in the traditions of St. Baldricks, where young men shave their heads for money and donate the money to research on childhood cancers. Delaney‘s group, consisting of five 14year-old boys who have been lifelong friends, raised $40,000 for the cause.

Eric Alexander, a world-class skier, climber, and mountaineer, was the keynote speaker for this year’s Middle School Matters program which took place on April 4.

Congratulations to eighth grader Price Wheeler for recently winning first place in the Boys Division of the Eastern Surfing Association Contest.

Eighth grader Kate Easton and junior Sebastian Moreno recently won the Iron Woman and Iron Man Awards at the ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional Surfing Championship in Ocean City, Maryland.

Kate also placed fourth in Womens Longboard and Girls Short Board, and Sebastian placed fourth in Junior Longboard.

UPPER SCHOOL Senior Matt Hirschbiel was featured on the front page of The Virginian-Pilot sports section with photographs, diagrams, and the headline, “Making Waves.” The article was about Matt’s senior project.

Cape Henry Collegiate School had many ExploraVision Honorable Mention Award Winners for 2005. In the Middle School 7-9 Division: Caitlyn Bennis, Erika Schaubach, Madison Marchbank, and Coach Janet Holden.

In the High School 10-12 Division: Robert Rawls, Lars Vonli, Joren Vonk, Brandon Mohawk, and Coach George Holden.

This year, a new program, Study Buddies, linked Tenth and Eleventh Grade student tutors with Middle School students. These tutors worked one-onone, either during Focus Bell or after school, in an effort to improve the Middle School students’ skills in certain subject areas, as well as acted as “big brothers or big sisters.”

The seniors on the varsity girls soccer team, Missy Redmon, Amanda Scott, Carli Warden, and Valerie Mills, had a feature article and photo in the April 14 Beacon entitled, “Cape Henry win over Cox could lead to big year.”

Aria Branch was selected as one of this year’s Young Achievers on WAVYTV. The station did a 60-second profile segment on her which was shown numerous times during the spring.

Twenty-six Israeli students from Tel Aviv visited with Cape Henry families after an academic and cultural exchange program between Alliance High School in Tel Aviv, Israel, and CHCS. Several articles and photographs appeared in local newspapers about their visit.

Mrs. Cherin Pullar, owner of The Pullars Dancing Academy in Australia and choreographer for the Olympics in Australia, visited CHCS recently. After teaching a class, Cherin worked with dance instructor, Ms. Callie Bryon, sharing a few of her teaching tools.

was so thrilled that the Burgermeister (mayor) presented a plaque to our students. The local press also wrote an article on the chorus’ trip to Austria.

In April, the Peer Leadership Program celebrated its first year with a dinner honoring the outgoing peer leaders as well as the new 2005-2006 peer leaders.

Although the program is only a year old, the Upper School students developed a successful program connecting with the freshman class through the advisee program, skits on substance abuse, and simply being friends with whom the freshmen could connect.

integrity FACULTY AND STAFF David Wright of the New York Mets, spent a great deal of time with the CHCS baseball team while on Spring Break in Florida. David, who was at the Mets’ spring training game, took time to speak with the team as a group, to sign autographs for each player, and to have his picture taken individually with each team member.

Welcome to Mr. Mark Cunningham, the new Lower School Director for the 2005-2006 academic year. Prior to coming to Cape Henry, Mark served as the Lower School Director of Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, Connecticut. Mark earned his B.S. at The Pennsylvania State University, his

M.Ed. in education at the University of Louisville, and completed additional postgraduate work at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Mark and his wife, Debbie, have two sons, Scott, Grade 5, and Kevin, Grade 3.

Mrs. Julie Scherrer and Mr. David Cameron have accepted the positions of Assistant Head of School at Cape Henry Collegiate School.

Mrs. Kim Johnson will assume the responsibilities of Upper School Dean for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Congratulations to Mr. Terry Forehand, Cape Henry’s new Facilities Director.

Officer Keith Scott has been named the new Assistant Director of Facilities. “Scottie’s” responsibilities will include managing transportation, security, janitorial services, and all outside grounds maintenance.

Mr. Shep Jordan has been asked to become the Associate Director of Middle and Upper Admissions.

Shep will maintain his teaching and coaching commitments, too.

Riley Claire Zimmerman was born on June 7, 2005 to Trish and Quinn Zimmerman. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19½ inches long.

Erin and John DeSplinter had a baby boy, Jack Michael, on April 27, 2005, at 6:18 A.M. He weighed 8 lbs. 7½ oz. and is 20½ inches long.

SPRING ATHLETIC REPORT

The Spring Cape Henry Athletic season brought success and positive accolades in many different avenues. As we patiently awaited warmer temperatures, Dolphin Teams trained and excelled on all of the athletic fields.Varsity boys lacrosse, varsity girls soccer, and JV boys lacrosse all were named TCIS Regular Season Champions. The JV Boys Lacrosse Team also won the TCIS Tournament.

Coach Will Gibbs led his team to an 11-7 record, overall, and was undefeated in the regular season conference schedule. Captain Nik Melvin was named TCIS Player of the Year and anchored the offensive attack throughout the season.

Defensively, Chase Phelps and Clay Tourault led the way. Underclassmen Brandon Faubert, Bryce Woodson, Dan Bain, and Brooks Bradley mark a strong returning class next spring.

The JV Boys Lacrosse Team, under the direction of Coach Shep Jordan, finished the season at an impressive 12-1 record and made Dolphin history by going undefeated in the conference and winning the TCIS Championship. TJ Spera had a remarkable season in goal, as well as his defensive line, Preston Banta, Barrett Jacobson, and Matt Gibbs. Scoring came from multiple sticks including Carter Mavromatis, Michael Mosure, Michael Hodeen, Blake McAfee, Delaney Oksman, and Drew Mason.This team also spells out a bright future for things to come. Cape Henry alumnus Mark Kelley '98, headed up the coaching responsibilities for Middle School boys lacrosse. This team made strides of improvement from beginning with help from the play of Cory Mavromatis, Sam Law, and Justin Lee.The Middle School team completed their season with a record of 4-4.

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team, 10-4 overall, completed a strong season, as well. Coach Jen Baker and Assistant Coach Brooke Baker directed a well conditioned team as viable competitors in every contest. Natalie Breit, Mary Flowers, Blake Burlage, and Devin Nash accumulated a great deal of scoring; and, Allison Bland, goalie, made it difficult for opponents to find the back of the net.

The JV Girls Lacrosse Team, coached by Julie Levine, were led by scoring sensations Kelsey Scherrer, Kelly Zoretic, and Alyssa Bowen. Ally Brooks, Kaelyn Smith, and Laura Dail were the Lady Dolphins defensive specialists.

The Varsity Boys Tennis Team had their best finish of recent years ending up in second place in the TCIS. Coach Miguel Rosa guided his team to a 9-3 finish with the help of top seeds Sameer Sandhu, Jackson Breit, and Aseem Sandhu. Chris Fletcher and Jackson Breit were formidable opponents in the Doubles Division.

JV boys tennis had a respectable 5-4 season under the helm of Coach Kevin deJesus. Matt Stein, Fitz Shipp, Machiel Van Gool, Alex Spruiell, and Jeff Hamele developed the fundamental skills necessary to advance to the next level.

The varsity girls softball season was a pleasure to witness.This team’s awareness of the game and ability to counter game situations improved immensely. The team enjoyed true leadership both on and off the field from Casey Scherrer and Shelby Evans. Stephanie Grune and Maddie Baine controlled things from the mound and from behind the plate. Kristen Meredith and Kaitlin Johnson stepped up to play beyond their youth. The season was capped off by a highly competitive game between the players and parents. Great job from Coach Cherlynn Fagerheim, and her assistants, Teresa Ambladt and Janice Baine.

Speaking of youth, the JV Softball Team also provided glimpses of good things to come on the softball diamond. Rebecca Wheless, a true competitor on the mound, and Kathleen Dawson, defending at shortstop, led the Lady Dolphins. Coach Bob Sully was pleased with the entire team effort throughout the season.

Another up and coming program is the Varsity Track & Field Team. Losing only one senior, Aria Branch, this young team offered a competitive effort at every meet. Charlie Celesia finished first in the 3200M of the TCIS Tournament, and Matt Szycher broke a Cape Henry school record in the 200M with a pace

integrity of 23:09. Carina Tate, Lauren Papineau, and Kelli Morrissey all made strong showings in the Girls Divisions. Coach Sharif Rudolph and Assistant Sherry Celesia are pleased and excited about the future of our Dolphin Track Program.

Coach Phil Stewart’s Varsity Coed Golf Team were runner-ups in the conference after completing a remarkable 13-1 season. Behind the strong, steady play of Scott Saal, Brandon Flynn, Brent Landen, Ben Almond, and Brielle Paolini, the Varsity Golf Team fell only seven strokes short of the title.

The JV Golf Team, coached by Alice Meredith, finished in the middle of the conference with a respectable 5-5 record. Kent Ryu and Jonathan MacConkey led their team with consistent play.

The Varsity Baseball Team proved they can play with any of the areas ranked opponents after taking Greenbrier Christian Academy, ranked number one in the area, to 12 innings in the semifinals of the TCIS Tournament. The Dolphins came up short in that game, but had nothing to be ashamed of throughout postseason play. Senior Captain Skylar Bates, First Team All-TCIS selection, truly directed his team from behind the plate at the catcher position. Sophomore Robert Morey also receiving First Team All-TCIS honors and had an impressive season from both the mound and the plate. Returners Pat Chicoine, Joe Farmartino, Parker Talbert, Jonathan Whited, and Pete Levitt make Cape Henry a preseason favorite for the 2005-2006 season.

Wes Neubeck ‘00 coached the JV Squad, primarily made up of Middle School athletes, working on the fundamentals and making improvements throughout the season. Blake Whited and Tyler Faubert, also receiving varsity minutes, in addition to Max Wagner and Jimmy Bertolino will prove to make a difference on the baseball diamond in the years to come.

Coach Rebecca Nelson led her Varsity Crew Team to another fine season for Cape Henry. Kaylin Carter, Amber Templeton, Rose Nevill, and Elizabeth Berke made up the Women’s Varsity Four.The mixed team consisted of Andrew Riddle, Lars Vonli, Rose Nevill, Taylor Stone, and Jake Jones. Preseason conditioning paid off for this team finishing strong in regattas all season.

The Varsity Girls Soccer Team satisfied onlookers by going undefeated in the regular season of conference play. Coach Max Moore will definitely miss the leadership of seniors Valerie Mills, Missy Redmond, Carli Warden, and Amanda Scott. Genna Brand and Nicole Moore provided skilled highlights all season long, assisted by Lindsey Weathersby and Liza Goldman. Defensive specialists, Anne Birkhead, Kelsey Pick, and Kelly Timms made it difficult to penetrate to the back of the net. Another great soccer season for the Lady Dolphins!

The JV Soccer Team, coached by soccer guru David Brun, came out ready to play every match. Players like Meggie Chicoine, Maddie Houck, Andrea Paphites, Katie Heilig, Carly Oksman, Amalia Riess, and Kirby Talbert are a sure sign that Lady Dolphins Soccer will be competitive for years to come.

The Cape Henry athletic teams had an impressive spring season. Now it is not only time to say farewell to a group of seniors who have had a significant impact on all of our programs, but also, to look to the future with the younger developmental teams. Memories on which to both reflect and grow!

COACHES CORNER: MS. JEANNE SHORT, 2005-2006 ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Ms. Jeanne Short has accepted the position of Athletic Director for the 2005-2006 school year. Jeanne has served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the past six years and has recently served as an Associate Athletic Director.

Originally from West Virginia, Jeanne received an athletic basketball scholarship to Concord University. In 1986, she moved to Virginia Beach to complete her sports medicine degree at Old Dominion University. Jeanne completed her academic work with an emphasis in exercise science and athletic training.

As a licensed certified athletic trainer, Jeanne has been the team physiotherapist for the U.S. Women’s National Field Hockey Team. During the past five years, she has traveled internationally to provide athlete rehabilitation, injury prevention, and sport-specific strength and conditioning programs.

Lee Peregoff '77 and his wife Angie enjoyed the proud distinction of being the first alumni parents of a Cape Henry Collegiate School graduate when their son, Michael, graduated with the Class of 2005.

THE 1980S Danny Maiello '85 is living in a restored brownstone in Washington, D.C. (circa 1901) and finds D.C. to be a lovely and stimulating city. He has lived in the area since graduating from The College of William and Mary in 1989. He was employed by both CNN and CNN International for ten years and enjoyed working with the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, different embassies, and traveled throughout the world. Danny is now the Vice President of Fleishman-Hillard, Inc., an international public relations firm, where he specializes in media relations, and often draws upon his earlier experiences with CNN. Kathy Ferguson Gorry '86 married Scott Gorry in 1993 at which time they moved to New Mexico and then to California.They finally settled in Connecticut where they now enjoy life in

a small, rural community about 30 miles northeast of Hartford. Kathy completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia in 1990, pursued a career teaching secondary English, and then switched to technical writing for a CAD/CAM software company. She now works as a stay-at-home mother of two girls, Grace, four, and Ashleigh, two.

Spencer Jones '87 visited Cape Henry this spring and was amazed at all of the growth. He is now the Vice President of eBusiness for Chartway Federal Credit Union. He describes his position as the “wiz bang” of Internet business. Spencer and his wife, Kate, live in Chesapeake.

Ray Maiello '87 graduated from The College of William and Mary and completed a law degree at Columbia University School of Law in New York City. Ray worked as an attorney while in the City and started his own company scouting talent and managing rock ’n’ roll bands. He enjoyed travel throughout Europe and Australia with the music business. After 12 years in the City, Ray is currently the In-house Counsel at Paramount Pictures with an office located on the studio lot.

Merri Jo Abernethy '88 writes that she and her husband, Scott, reside in the “Queen City” of Charlotte, North Carolina. They have a daughter, Lauren, who is eleven and a son, Miles, who is four.They continue to promote historical education by presenting living history, as a family and with His Majesty’s 64th Regiment of Foot. Merri Jo additionally completed research on her ancestor James Seay of Virginia to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Paige Tucker '88 lives in Valley Village, California, a section of Los Angeles. She works as the Vice President in the Risk Operations Division of Bank of America. While based in Pasadena, she manages a small virtual team located throughout the country. Paige completed her first undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University, graduating magna cum laude, outstanding graduate in International Studies. She is now enrolled for a second degree in IT, graphics and multimedia through Capella, a virtual school. The program will roll into a master’s in IT database design or instructional design. Paige married Jason Gossman in 2000. He is a recording

engineer in L.A. working mostly on rock and alternative rock albums by various artists. Together they have a son, Conner, who is approaching his third birthday.

Mike Gianascoli '89 and his wife, Lisa, welcomed their third child, a daughter, Annika Mya on May 12. Mike was also recently elected to the CHCS Board of Trustees. (See page 3)

Dan London '89 met his future wife Melissa while they were both literature majors at the University of North Carolina. Married in 1998, they are the proud parents of a son, Beckett, born in October of 2003. Dan is the lead writer for a technical search engineering organization.

Audrey Maiello '89 has been living and working in New York City since completing her undergraduate degree at Boston University and finishing law school in New Orleans in the mid-’90s.

She worked for the District Attorney for several years and is now in private practice with a firm near Wall Street.

opportunity Keith Cunningham of New York in Las Ventanas, Los Cabos, Mexico. She and Keith are avid runners and completed the New York Marathon together. They recently purchased a country home just outside Woodstock, New York which dates to the 1840s. Audrey writes that she keeps up with Karen Hall Haynie '85 whose wedding she attended a few years ago. “Our families are still in touch, and we attended her wedding in Charlottesville a few years ago––it was beautiful—on the UVA campus.” Karen lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, William, an architect. Karen is a very successful interior designer.

They honeymooned in the Greek Islands.

Macon’s parents hosted an East Coast reception for the couple at the Princess Anne Country Club. Some of Macon’s groomsmen in attendance were Cape Henry alumni: Repp Lambert '89 (best man), Chris Perry '92, Drew Todd '91, Minor Meredith '91, Sean O’Donnell '90, and Brad Harrell '89.

Other alumni there to celebrate were Brandon Perry '86, Paige Perry '95, Pete DeTorres '89, Alec Harwin '89, Riley Gomez '92, Charlie Pincus '87, Troy Toner '88, Scott VanGilder '91, and Trey Braithwaite '86. Macon and Kristen now reside in Newport Beach, California, where Macon works as the

Ramsay Devereux '93 recently celebrated her 30th birthday on a surfing trip to Mexico with friends! Ramsay began her career in wilderness therapy for juvenile delinquents. After four years, she has transitioned into therapy and case management for the mentally ill and homeless for El Dorado County Mental Health. She is in her second year of a long-distance learning, graduateschool program, through Pacifica Graduate Institute where she will earn a master’s in counseling. Betsy Harrison '93 is living in Norfolk and working as a pharmaceutical Sales Representative for Allergan, which markets products to eye surgeons. She reports that she is enjoying life.

Harrison Kelsey '93 is a guitar instructor with studios in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. He loves his job and teaches over 65 students each week.

Kelley Joyner Reynolds '93 writes that after completing an undergraduate degree, a B.S. in commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, she moved to the Washington, D.C. area to work for Accenture, a global consulting company.

Kelley married University of Virginia alumnus Justin Reynolds in June 2003.

They live in Alexandria,Virginia.

Blake Hudson Aldridge '95 graduated from High Point University in May 1999 with a B.A. in human relations and social work. After working with Boys & Girls Clubs as a program director, she is currently the Director of The Children’s Center, a new daycare/ preschool in High Point, North Carolina.

She and her husband, Gray, were married at Norfolk’s Hermitage Museum in 1999.

Though Gray is a native of High Point, he graduated from Christchurch Episcopal School and remembers playing CHCS in lacrosse. Blake is the proud mother of Riley, age three. Jennifer Larus '95 is Riley’s godmother.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Awesome Products, Inc. Chris Sawyer '90 is living in Chesapeake with his wife, Ryan. They recently welcomed the birth of their first child, a son, Peyton William. Peyton arrived on April 11, 2005. Chris is working as an admissions counselor at Cambridge College’s Chesapeake Center where he is responsible for the Master of Education programs. He has recently completed his own master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. Chris has volunteered to serve as Class Agent for the CHCS Class of 1990 and to Chris Sawyer '90 and coordinate their 15th his wife, Ryan. reunion.

News of Gaynor '91 and Nikki Bretherton '93 comes from their mother. Subsequent to completing a B.B.A. at The College of William and Mary, Gaynor worked for Bell Atlantic, now Verizon. As is customary in Great Britain, she took several months off to travel through Australia before returning to the U.S. to work as a Project Leader for Comprehensive Health Services.

Nikki completed her under-graduate degree at the University of Virginia and shortly thereafter joined Merrill Lynch.

In 2002, she married Brad Donohue in Charlottesville, while he was completing an M.B.A. Nikki and Brad now live in Boston, where she has been promoted with Fidelity of Boston and he runs National Research Lab. Nikki recently learned that she was accepted into the Master’s of Higher Education program at Harvard University.

Leslie Goodman Griles '91 lives in Richmond, where she has worked for Slay Public Relations since 1998. She represents a variety of clients in television, movies, and print. One of her clients provided the furniture that appeared in the television shows The Apprentice and Extreme Makeover. Leslie married Tim Griles in 2003.

Tori Weinstein Cash '92 and husband Eric are expecting their first child in late June or early July. They have bought a new home in Virginia Beach to accommodate their growing family.

Tori is now the Associate Director of Marketing and PR for the Tidewater Jewish Foundation/Simcha Campaign.

Jennifer Larus '95 worked as an event and conference planner for the opera and snowsports industries in Washington, D.C., until she moved to Richmond for a job with the Omni Richmond Hotel. She was recently promoted to Convention Services Manager. Jen continues to teach sailing in Old Towne Alexandria.

Evan Bourquard '96 graduated this June from the University of Washington with a master of architecture degree.

He previously earned an undergraduate degree in engineering from Fisk University.

Tova Cohn '96 graduated this May from the University of Richmond with a degree in law. She is currently studying to take the bar exam this summer.

Lisa Iervolino '96 is working toward licensure as a licensed clinical social worker. She works as a clinician doing case management and therapy services with adolescents at a residential facility in Portsmouth. Lisa lives in Virginia Beach.

Leigh Wilkins '96 has completed her first year of studies for a master’s in architecture at the University of Washington where she ran into Evan Bourquard '96. Leigh has additionally been awarded a scholarship to travel to Sri Lanka this August to conduct research for her thesis and relief work with tsunami survivors.

Jessica Zaganczyk ’96 writes that she is now in her fifth year in New York City living primarily on the Upper East Side, which she calls home. Jessica began her career and spent three years with the sports and entertainment conglomerate IMG where she worked in the fashion division. She was a special projects manager for all of the special events and programs for the New York and L.A. Fashion Weeks, where all of the designers

show their latest collections. She notes that it “wasn’t always as glamorous as it sounds, but the experience was amazing!”

Jessica parlayed her experience with designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Nanette Lapore, and Michael Kors, into a position with Esquire Magazine where she has been for 18 months. She works directly with the Vice President/Publisher as well as with the marketing department. She still finds time for tennis, but now, just for fun.

Ed Denton '97 married fellow “Hokie” Kimberly and together they have created a business venture, Denton Hospitality Enterprises, LLC, which provides conference planning and group travel consulting services, as well as the design of various websites to offer geographically specific event planning resources. Ed and Kimberly’s first child, Elizabeth, was born in May 2004. Ned Miles '97 and Katie Fisher '97 are Elizabeth’s godparents.

Bridget Bradley '01 was awarded the Ernest H. Ern, Jr. Award, at the University of Virginia, in recognition of outstanding contributions to student life by an intercollegiate athlete. Following a two-week backpack trek through Europe, Bridget will join the Corporate Executive Board in Washington, D.C. She will work in sales and marketing for this “best practices” research group.

THE 2000S Calvert Kelsey '00 will graduate this December from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in communications/public relations. She hopes to relocate to San Diego, California.

Marta Long '00 sent an announcement of her graduation this May from the University of North Carolina Marta Long '00 at Wilmington’s Cameron School of Business. Marta earned a bachelor of arts degree in business management.

Anne Ruehrmund '00 has been accepted into the Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking program at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. It is a threeyear, terminal degree, the equivalent of a Ph.D, so upon completion, Anne will be qualified for a tenured position at the university level. She has been awarded a teaching assistantship and a fellowship.

Beginning in fall 2006, Anne will begin teaching undergraduate art courses.

Coach Wes Neubeck '00 has been hired in the CHCS Physical Education Department for the 2005-2006 academic year. Wes played on four different varsity teams while attending CHCS, received 14 varsity letters, and was captain during seven of those years.

He is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and is the older brother of Elise '04 and Bradley '07.

Jerry Harris '03 has been named as an Honor Council Investigator for the Honor Council Advisory Board during his junior year at James Madison University.

In the Sports Section of TheVirginianPilot, Ryan Curran '04 was commended for his banner rookie year in lacrosse at the University of Hartford. In March, Cape Henry was sent the following press release entitled, “Curran Named America East Rookie of the Week.”

Katy continues her studies in marine biology at Old Dominion University when she can find time between the feedings of twins, Abby and Nate, born on March 14, 2005.

John Kelley '99 completed his undergraduate degree at The College of William and Mary and has just accepted a new position with Smith Barney. John will be relocating to New Jersey.

at the changes on the campus. Jeremy is working as the Banquet Manager at the Sun River Resort in Sun River, Oregon where he has received a full scholarship to study Resort Management. During the winter months, he works for the same company as the Banquet Director at Squaw Creek, a division of Squaw Valley, in Lake Tahoe, California.

Rainer Poley '97 is a 2005 graduate of the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. Rainer was selected to present his research on the genetics of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the number one cause of sudden death among the young, at both the American Heart Association in New Orleans and the American Academy of Pediatrics in San Francisco, at which he was named an AAP Young Investigator Award Finalist.

Next, Rainer will do an internship at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas and then spend four years as a resident in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of California in San Francisco.
