In October, the leadership team and professional staff met at the Westin Resort for our annual Board retreat to develop a three-year strategic plan. The feedback we collected from our membership survey helped to guide us in developing the Strategic Plan. We thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.
We have an excellent and impressive board, perfectly suited to promote the business community in this city. We also have the right Chamber staff in place to help us achieve our goals. These are the folks who work hard every day to prepare our many events and run the day to day operations of the Chamber.

Longtime member Chris Spiro of Spiro & Associates official retired his duties as a board member and became what we lovingly call a “Silverback” or Chairman Emeritus. Chris has served as an invaluable member of our board for the last 22 years. He is responsible for the Chamber brand and our signature Get In & Get Busy slogan. We cannot thank him enough for his continued service to the Chamber. Former Chairman Heather Mazurkiewicz was also honored as a Chairman Emeritus at the Gala. During Heather’s year as Chairman in 2008, we were all “Chamberfied” and for anyone who has met Heather, that tagline says it all. The energy and passion she has shown programs like Leadership Cape Coral, Red, White and Boom, Lee County Days in Tallahassee (now SWFL Days) and many more is immeasurable. JR LEADERSHIP CAPE CORAL Jr LEADERSHIP KICK-OFF Mike “Q� Quaintance, MBA, CCE Jr Leadership 2017 Chairman
Over the past several weeks the Jr. Leadership class has been very busy with assorted daylong excursions. Students did Law & Order day with hosts Miguel Fernandez and Darryl Aubuchon as seen in the photo where the students are experimenting with finger printing. Jr. Leadership went to FGCU Hospitality school and worked with the chef, and learned about the hotel business from Dominick Soricelli. Most recently thanks to Matt Connar the Jr. Leadership students got to explore a career in media with a visit to FOX4, Wink, and iHeart Radio. Pictured below is Valeria Velazquez and Alex Carrasco who represented Jr. Leadership on the Morning Blend. You can also see Claire Driscoll and Valeria Velazquez trying out for the weather team at Wink. This program would not be possible without the program sponsors, volunteers, and student sponsors. The Lee Health food and nutrition team has also completed a multi-year malnutrition study which identified many hospitalized individuals who were malnourished at the time of admission and provided them with an innovative solution for inpatient medical care plus provided them with an after-discharge four week supply of therapeutically appropriate meals. This extended care program has resulted in improved health outcomes plus significantly reduced re-admission rates. This program called Flavor Harvest @ Home has been recognized nationally as an innovative nutrition solution supporting the concept of healing at home. By simply making sure individuals have healthy food to eat upon discharge, their medical conditions improved and they were less often readmitted back into the hospital.
The CHIP program founded by Hans Diehl is the “Complete Health Improvement Program” which is a plant based nutrition program that we have used with hundreds of Lee Health employees, spouses and many community folks since 2010. Personally, one of the most exciting parts of my job is writing articles and giving public presentations about health and wellness. It is so exciting to work with people who truly want to become and stay healthy. In the Employee Health clinic, I have thus far worked with over 700 people on weight management and other health
risk factors and have been pleased with their success. These folks prove to me each day that adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors does as much to improve health as traditional medical therapies do. The New Year met us as it always does with hope and optimism for a better year. Now that we have a few weeks of that new year under our belts and a week (as of this writing) of a new president, let’s see if we can decipher what it all means.

That must be paid before anything else happens. When folks tell us that prices will come down, it is easy to tell them that the city wants its money, the suppliers want their money, the sub-contractors want their money, the banks and insurers want theirs and nothing is going as long as costs keep rising as they have over the past few years. If you look at the numbers above for the past few months, you will notice that even with diminished numbers of homes and condos sold, the median prices are much higher than they were months before. Anyone living in the Cape for more than two years can verify that.
