The Leadership Cape Coral Class of 2025 has embarked on a powerful journey of education, connection, and community impact. Throughout the year, participants have explored every facet of what makes Cape Coral thrive — from compassionate community service organizations and vital industries to local government, healthcare, media, and public safety. Each themed program day offered a new lens through which to understand our city’s people, progress, and potential.
The year began with Made in Cape Coral Day, celebrating the history, innovation, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship that define the city’s economy. The class began the morning at the Cape Coral Museum of History with breakfast and an engaging presentation on the city’s history from Elmer Tabor (Class of 1993), Cape Coral Town Historian and owner of Big John’s Plaza. From there, participants toured Bones Coffee and sampled locally distilled spirits at Wicked Dolphin Rum Distillery with owner JoAnne Elardo and enjoyed lunch at Bayside Burger & Beer. The afternoon featured the Joe Mazurkiewicz Ex travaganza Bus Tour (Class of 1993), which included visits to Nor-Tech Performance Boats in the North Cape Industrial Park, as well as tours of the Hancock Creek and Cape Coral Industrial Parks. The day concluded with a stop at Brand1 Ink, housed in one of Cape Coral’s first industrial buildings hosted by Leigh and Clint Strand, at the Del Prado Industrial Park. It was a day of hometown history, discovery, and appreciation for the local businesses that make Cape Coral “Made to Shine.”
The class then turned its focus to growth and development during Real Estate & Construction Day, held at Miloff Aubuchon Realty Group. Over breakfast, Gloria Tate of Raso Realty reflected on Cape Coral’s early real estate expansion, while Bill Steinke of Aubuchon Homes shared forward-looking insights about the city’s future housing trends. After touring nearby construction sites, the group gathered at the Cape Coral Public Works Building for an afternoon of learning from Chapman Insurance Group, who explained the intricacies of homeowners insurance; Matt Grambow, Deputy Development Services Director, who spoke about infrastructure and growth; and Amy Yearsley Thomas, Planning Manager, who discussed attainable housing initiatives. The day wrapped up with a Builders Care Project, where participants put their leadership into action by volunteering for a local disabled Veteran in need.

Another program highlight was Community Steward Day, a moving experience that highlighted the heart of Cape Coral’s nonprofit network. The class started the morning at the Cape Coral Caring Center, where Executive Director Julie Ferguson shared how the organization provides food and financial assistance to families in need. Next, they visited the Brotherhood of Heroes Museum, where founder Dr. Carol Rae Culliton gave an inspiring tour honoring veterans, first responders, and heroes who serve our nation. The group then visited Thrive, led by Executive Director Meg DeLuca, to learn how the organization supports women and families through advocacy, education, and empowerment programs. Lunch was hosted at the Frieda B. Smith Center for Special Populations, sponsored by JNS Defense Logistics Consulting, LLC, where the class heard heartfelt presentations from Mick Sheldrake, Chairman of The Guardian Angels for Special Populations and member of the Kiwanis Club, Brad Peska, Past Chairman of the Rotary Club of Cape Coral spoke about their service to the community and Melanie Musick from the PACE Center for Girls. The day concluded with a visit to the Cape Coral Animal Shelter, where Executive Director Liz McCauley showcased the shelter’s compassionate work to protect and care for local animals.
Health and wellness took center stage on Health Care Day, held on September 4, 2025. The class began with breakfast and a presentation by Dr. Omar Clark (Class of 2024), Experience Health and Wellness spoke on the evolving landscape of local healthcare. Participants then traveled to Cape Coral Hospital, where they were welcomed by Lauren Ware, Lee Health Community Programs Manager. The morning included tours of the Emergency and Surgical Services Departments, led by Mary Bell, MS, RN, CEN, and the Director of Surgical Services. The session concluded with updates and closing remarks from Dr. Cherrie Morris and Rebekah Jernstedt of Cape Coral Hospital. The afternoon included visits to AdventHealth, where CEO Adam Johnson and Marketing Director, John Wright introduced participants to the hospital’s innovative approach to care; Encompass Health, where Diana Torres explained rehabilitation and recovery programs; and Fuller Metz Funeral Home, where Chuck Warren and Tim Hauck led a presentation on compassionate end-of-life care.

On Media Day, September 11, 2025, the class stepped behind the scenes of local communication and journalism. The day began with a tour of FOX4 News with Sarah Lindenberg, offering a firsthand look at live broadcasting. Next, the group visited The Breeze Newspapers, where Executive Editor Valerie Harring led an engaging “Ask the Editor, Ask the Reporter” session. Lunch was hosted at The Breeze Press Facility in Fort Myers, with Publisher Ray Eckenrode and Renée Brown-Feldhaus providing an inside look at the newspaper production process. The afternoon concluded with a visit to Renda Broadcasting in Bonita Springs, where John Rozzi offered a tour and insights into radio broadcasting and marketing. The day emphasized how vital media is to community awareness, transparency, and connection.
The class also gained valuable perspective on emergency services during Public Safety Day, which began at the Cape Coral Emergency Operations Center with Emergency Management Director Ryan Lamb. Participants heard from Fire Chief Mike Russell and toured Fire Station 2, where they observed fire and smoke behavior demonstrations, specialty team equipment, and even had the chance to spray the fire hose. The afternoon at the Cape Coral Police Department featured presentations by the Fire Chief and Police Chief Anthony Sizemore, followed by a tour of the department and an exciting K9 demonstration. The experience gave the class a new appreciation for the men and women who serve and protect the community every day.
The last session of the month was Tourism and Government Day on September 26, 2025, at The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village. The day began with a light breakfast sponsored by The Westin, followed by welcome remarks from General Manager Robert Norkley, a presentation from Tamara Pigott, Executive Director of the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau, and an update from Donna Germain, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral and Visit Cape Coral. After touring the Westin Conference Center, the group headed to SunSplash Family Water Park for a behind-the-scenes look with Park Director Eric Reed. Lunch at Mellow Mushroom featured remarks from owner Chris Scuderi and a tour of Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park located next door.
Participants then traveled to Cape Coral City Hall for an afternoon of civic engagement. There, they met with City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn, Cape Coral City Council Members Rachel Kaduk, Bill Steinke, Joe Kilraine and Laurie Lehmann. Lee County Commissioners Brian Hamman and State Representative Mike Giallombardo, before concluding the day with a Mock City Council Meeting with Former Cape Coral Mayor Joe Mazurkiewicz in the council chambers. The experience provided an in-depth look at the interconnected roles of city, county, and state leadership in shaping Cape Coral’s future.
Across all these experiences, one theme was clear: Leadership Cape Coral is not just about professional development — it’s about community connection. Participants do not just learn about Cape Coral; they experienced its heart, history, and future firsthand.
The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral extends sincere gratitude to all the speakers, hosts, sponsors, and volunteers who made this year’s program such a success. Together, they have helped shape a new generation of leaders — people who will continue to serve, strengthen, and celebrate the city we call home.

The Fall/Winter season of the market begins this month. Veteran vendors are returning with lots of new vendors joining them. Local produce is growing and soon will be overflowing in the market. We hope all our members get a chance to visit us this season.
As usual, we will have a wide array of vendors offering great foods and finds. We have our fantastic musicians returning to spread the love every Saturday, courtesy of Miloff Aubuchon Real Estate Group. As our music sponsor for 20 years, they have supported the market and have been beyond generous. We thank them so much!
Our other valued sponsors are Breeze Newspapers and Waste Pro. They also have been sponsors for many years. Thanks also to the newly opened Salad King for the most beautiful tent. These sponsorships allow us to bring the market to our community every Saturday, year-round. Our most grateful thanks to all of them!
We hope that you choose to make the Cape Coral Farmers Market your Saturday Morning Destination!

Things just got a little cuter around the Welcome Center and Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral!
We’re thrilled to introduce our newest (and definitely youngest) honorary team member — Baby Stefan, born to one of our amazing staff members, Maria Ortiz, earlier this year.
While most babies are busy with tummy time and teething toys, this little one has taken a keen interest in office life. From attending team meetings (napping through most of them — we don’t blame you!) to greeting visitors with the occasional giggle, Baby Stefan is already a natural at customer service.
Our honorary “Employee of the Month” may not be able to type emails just yet, but his presence brings smiles, boosts morale, and reminds us all to slow down and enjoy the little moments — and sometimes, a little snack break.

Responsibilities include spreading joy, inspiring “awws,” and reminding us what really matters — community, connection, and maybe a few extra coffee breaks for the staffers to enjoy some baby love.
Welcome to the team, Baby Stefan — we’re lucky to have you!
