National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) Foster Care Agency

NYAP is a local non-profit foster care agency that serves Cape Coral and the surrounding communities. We work to help all youth experiencing foster care who may otherwise fall through the cracks of the system or may need specialized services to help them heal. We believe every child deserves a family. We also believe that for healing to occur, children need a safe, trusted environment that understands and accepts them for who they are.

There are thousands of children who are without a home as their parent(s) work to piece the family back together. With dedicated foster parents, these children and youth find safe environments where they can continue to grow, develop and learn despite the challenges their families face.

We recognize the power that individuals have in influencing their neighbors, friends, family and teammates. We hope that we can spread the need for foster parents throughout all facets of our community.

National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) provides 24/7 support to our foster families, comprehensive educational opportunities, and a holistic approach to serving them so they can better care for youth experiencing foster care. We also support the families of origin of the youth in care. We help our community partners understand how they can assist youth, their families, and foster families. Please share our information in your businesses and communities and consider attending one of our Information Sessions to learn more about us and get any questions answered!

Upcoming Zoom Information Sessions will occur on Tuesdays, February 25th, March 4th, 11th and 18th. These meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.

Robert Bahr grew up in a large musical family in a small farming community in Southern Iowa. Robert started playing piano and reading music at the age of four. He was initially taught by his grandmother. By high school, he was the music director of his church. He performed throughout his high school years and won a spot on a statewide talent concert for a regional TV station.

Robert studied piano performance at Coe College in Iowa with a master’s from Ohio University. He was the music director for ballet companies in Ohio, Mississippi and Tennessee. Robert moved to Maine in 1982 where he taught high school choral music for five years. He became executive director of the Bangor Symphony followed by becoming executive director of the Grand Auditorium in Maine.

In 1991 he met his wife, Anne, who owned a bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor, Maine. He met Anne, a vocalist, while directing a local Gilbert and Sullivan production. Robert has been producer and musical director of Broadway musicals for regional companies. Anne has performed in many roles in these productions.

Robert continues to perform three nights a week at a supper club in Bar Harbor Maine. He states “Music is my passion. Music fills my soul. It is what I breathe. It is what I live for”

HEALTH CARE TRENDS

FEBRUARY IS AMERICAN HEART MONTH

February is American Heart Month, which encourages us to commit to heart-healthy lifestyles that can reduce heart disease—our country’s leading cause of death.

Too many of us know the pain of losing a loved one to a heart attack, stroke, or coronary heart disease. But by adopting a healthy lifestyle and having local access to expert heart care, these conditions can often be prevented, and lives can be saved.

Read on to learn how Lee Health and its award-winning Lee Health Heart Institute stands with you in the fight against heart disease. Our premier heart disease treatment and services can help you live your best life.

Lee Health Heart Institute

The Lee Health Heart Institute offers the largest and most experienced heart team in our region. The Institute covers all aspects of heart care, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care and anything else you’ll need to stay on the road to recovery.

Patients can access primary and specialty care, nationally ranked hospitals, Shipley Cardiothoracic Center, cardiac rehabilitation services, and more at one of our cardiology locations close to you.

 Cardiologists: Lee Health Heart Institute cardiologists keep your heart healthy by preventing, evaluating and treating cardiovascular diseases. We use a variety of invasive and noninvasive techniques to help you heal when seconds count.

 Cardiothoracic Surgery: Shipley Cardiothoracic Center. Lee Health’s award-winning cardiothoracic surgeons perform surgical treatments of the heart, circulatory system and lungs — including heart disease, lung disease and aneurysms — while helping to ensure faster recovery times.

 Imaging Services: Our cardiac imaging specialists work closely with your referring physician to deliver a personalized care plan that meets your unique needs. The latest technology and AI-powered analysis lead to precise diagnoses.

 Education Spotlight: From atrial fibrillation to arrhythmia to high blood pressure to heart valves and more, our education pages empower you about conditions and treatments so you’re more in control of your care.

 Heart and Vascular Institute: “HVI” is a partnership between cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and Lee Health. We constantly strive to improve the quality of care and develop new cuttingedge programs that enhance the options patients can have about their treatment.

 Heart Care Transition Clinic: A specialized medical office for cardiac patients recently discharged from the hospital to receive follow-up medical care. The team works with your cardiologist to ensure you get the follow-up care you need.

 Rapid Diuresis Clinic: Lee Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute’s Diuresis Clinic’s specially trained cardiac team can evaluate your symptoms and design a treatment plan that’s specific to your needs at that time. This outpatient approach relieves your symptoms and improves your quality of life.



Heart Valve Center: The Center brings together HealthPark cardiology experts and the Shipley surgeons to offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to valve disease. Under one roof, patients and their referring physicians have access to the latest valve therapies, including transcatheter therapies, minimally invasive surgical approaches and traditional openheart surgical options.

 Lee Health’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program: Our program offers heart patients the most advanced cardiac rehabilitation facility in the area.

Primary Care and Screenings

Larry Antonucci, M.D., MBA, President & CEO, Lee Health, reminds you to schedule your annual physical with your primary care physician or advanced provider so you can check in on your heart health with blood pressure and cholesterol screenings as well as your weight and other important health metrics.

“If you have not established a relationship with a primary care provider, you should because they will help you stay as healthy as possible with appropriate screenings, vaccinations and referrals to specialists, like our heart team, should you need them,” he says.

Other Resources

 Nationally Recognized Awards: Our heart experts are continually recognized for their great work. HealthPark Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals for heart care.
