Message from the CEO
2018 was another exciting year for Cape Cod 5 as we introduced new products and services designed to meet the unique and evolving needs of our customers; expanded the number of relationships to a new high; introduced digital functionality for customer convenience; and achieved a record level of net income. We responded to requests for more physical facilities and welcomed new customers and communities into our Cape Cod 5 family, including opening a second fullservice location on Martha’s Vineyard in Edgartown and a Lending & Wealth Management Office on Resnik Road in Plymouth and purchasing the future homes of a Provincetown Banking Center and a Barnstable Banking Center located on our new campus. As we expanded our role in these communities, one of the questions that we’ve been asked is, “What is Cape Cod 5?” Where we have been serving some of our communities since before the Civil War, we were a little surprised to get this question. And we recognized that it is understandable. So I’d like to take this opportunity to answer that question.
•W e are a sound and strong financial institution. In
2018, the Bank achieved record earnings for the third straight year while total assets grew to $3.4 billion. This was made possible through strong business line results, as total loan volume surpassed $1.0 billion, deposits increased 6.0% and Trust assets under management totaled $1.06 billion. The Bank’s asset quality metrics continue to be historically strong and we remain wellcapitalized according to all regulatory definitions.
•W e are a trusted financial partner, ready to walk Simply put, Cape Cod 5 is a values-based financial services institution with a mission to enrich lives—those of our customers, community members and employees. That doesn’t fully capture the breadth of it.
with our customers along every step of their financial journeys. In 2018, we welcomed 3,400 new households as customers. We’ve innovated with new or improved services to help customers reach their goals, including a suite of socially responsible investment options, enhancements to Bill Pay and digital banking.
• We are a recognized expert in home financing,
achieving and maintaining number one market share in most of the existing communities we have served.
•W e are a supporter of the economic vibrancy of local communities through our business lending, and were recognized as the Massachusetts Lender of the Quarter by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the 3rd quarter of 2018.

“We are friends, neighbors, family, community members, local residents, business partners, volunteers and advocates. Because of how embedded we are within our communities, we define our success by your success. We are with you through good times and uncertain times. We are honest and transparent with you. We speak with our actions and honor our Commitment—to our customers, communities, employees and one another. We are Cape Cod 5.” •W e are an active corporate citizen with responsibility to support healthy, vital and vibrant communities in our region. In 2018, our employees volunteered more than 3,100 hours and served on 53 boards and committees for nonprofits, schools and towns. Cape Cod 5 introduced a program of 15 hours paid time off for its employees to volunteer in the community in 2018. Cape Cod 5 also introduced an employee donation match program and employees have donated $15,720 since the program began. In addition, Cape Cod 5’s total giving for the year was $1.3 million.
•W e are a top employer in Massachusetts, and have been named one of the “Best Banks to Work for” by American Banker and “Top Places to Work” by the Boston Globe, and we’ve been nationally recognized for our extensive internship program.
This last point is one of which I am especially proud because at its core, Cape Cod 5 is made up of and defined by the 500+ employees who work hard each day to assist customers, support our communities and serve each other. They bring their best selves to everything they do and are committed to lifelong learning. They are talented, creative, knowledgeable and trustworthy. They dedicate themselves each day to our mission and enrich the lives of those around them.
So the question should not be, “What is Cape Cod 5?” Rather, ask us, “Who is Cape Cod 5?” And the answer? We are.
To our customers, thank you for placing your trust in us. We will work hard each day to continue earning it. To our neighbors, thank you for the opportunity to work together to make the unique and special communities in our region even better. To our team members, Trustees and Corporators, I feel privileged and proud each day to be part of this Cape Cod 5 family, serving alongside all of you. Thank you for everything that you do. With gratitude,
Dorothy A. Savarese Chairman, President & CEO Cape Cod 5 3

A PILLAR OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY Project is registered under the LEED® green building program with the certification goal of LEED Gold®. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system.
Our ecological planting strategy utilizes species appropriate to our environment, with the majority native to the Northeast and Barnstable County. The plan encourages healthy plant environments and requires less irrigation and maintenance, as well as fewer chemicals and pesticides than non-native plantings.
A building that previously stood in this wetland buffer region was removed and the area is being restored as open space. Healthy wetlands and buffer areas help to control flooding, protect water flows, conserve native plants and wildlife, and support naturefriendly land use and development.
Situated at one of the gateways to Hyannis, this previously developed property replaces a strip development and is located in an area focused on commercial development with good access to regional roadways.
