Why this year’s calendar is a little different We are honored to introduce 12 community partners of the CAP COM Cares Foundation and showcase their phenomenal efforts in this calendar.

Without them, there is only need in our community. Thanks to their compassion and hard work, those needs are recognized, prioritized, and met. Teaming up, we fulfill our missions to serve.

Delivering help and hope is how we express our compassion in action, together. The CAP COM Cares Foundation teams up with dozens of non-profit partners, and we are delighted to showcase some of them in this year’s calendar.

As you flip through these pages, you’ll get a sense of the hard work and kinship that fuel the Capital Region’s outreach engines.

To help address the surging need during the pandemic, CAP COM Cares has boosted funding to our non-profit partners. Food insecurity as well as health and housing issues will continue to receive special priority in 2021.

The CAP COM Cares Foundation was forced to cancel the 2020 Golf Tournament due to caution surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. It would have been our 25th annual event, and typically our sponsors enjoy a day filled with the spirit of giving and friendship.

More than 30 companies stepped up and donated to the Foundation in a fall event called Golfing Alone Together. Three of those sponsors donated $5,000 or more each. We honor and thank them here.

The Food Pantries for the Capital District Albany, NY www.thefoodpantries.org The Food Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition of more than 65 food pantries in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties working together to feed the hungry. Our mission is to address hunger in the Capital District through their member food pantries. “Due to the pandemic, nearly half of local food pantries in the Capital Region experienced increases in services, some up to 150% to 200%. Many of those pantries were delivering and continue to deliver groceries to the homes of those impacted

by COVID-19. In 2021, we continue to work with food pantries across the Capital Region on coordinating resources for home delivery of pantry groceries to and for our neighbors in need.�

We work toward this mission by ensuring that all products available for donation are distributed judiciously to our member agencies, by practicing responsible stewardship, and by actively participating in the community to increase awareness of hunger and poverty.

“When the pandemic hit in spring 2020, we knew the times ahead would be difficult for many people and demanding for the Regional Food Bank. We were prepared to provide large scale emergency food assistance as we have in prior disasters. However, the scope of the problem and level of need greatly exceeded our expectations. With thousands of people out of work and needing help, many of them for the first time in their lives, our distribution almost immediately jumped by 50% and continued at that pace throughout the year.”

Capital Roots Troy, NY www.capitalroots.org The mission of Capital Roots is to nourish healthy communities by providing access to fresh food and green spaces for all.

The Capital Roots Veggie MobileÂŽ team visits more than 35 locations around the Capital Region each week, delivering low-cost, top-quality fresh produce to senior and low-income housing facilities and neighborhoods with limited retail choices. During COVID-19, a trip in public or to the food store was simply not an option for many consituents Capital Roots serves. The Veggie MobileÂŽ never stopped running. Food assessment coordinator, Marissa (pictured), visits a lowincome senior apartment in downtown Troy and works with an immigrant couple from the Middle East using pictures to translate and help them order their food.
