Drivers give officer thumbs up for catching 112mph hwy speeder The reckless driving of a 30-year old Aloha man resulted in his arrest and the impound of his father’s car near Mill City. Sr. Deputy Jeff Nicoloff was working on Highway 22 near milepost 27 around noon last Sunday when he spotted a speeding red 2007 Acura RDX traveling westbound. At the time, the driver - Jason Scott Butters of Aloha, Oregon - was passing another vehicle and could barely control his car. Deputy Nicoloff clocked the car going 112mph and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Butters, told the deputy he wasn’t sure how fast he was going, but felt it was

“safe” because he was passing other cars. Apparently other drivers disagreed with his assessment as they honked their horns, waved and gave the deputy a “thumbs up” as they drove by the car stop. Butters was arrested for reckless driving and cited for excessive speed. He was booked into the Marion County Jail. The vehicle, which belonged to his father, was impounded at the scene. He has prior speeding convictions on his record.
