Two businesses open in Gates in one week Lane Computer Medic opens November 15 at 101 Central Ave
Lane Computer Medic & Electronics LLC has plans to open their doors this Saturday, November 15 at 101 Central Ave. in the space attached to the east side of the Gates Post Office. The store is owned by Will Lane, a self described techno-geek who has been dabbling in computers all his life and is currently finishing up a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and Technology. He specializes in computer repair, networking, programming, virus removal, upgrades and custom computer design. He also will be offering free basic computer classes and online help. In January, Lane plans to have a line of new computers available for sale off the shelf. Lane currently lives in Salem with his wife Tiffany, a photographer, and they have four children. The Lanes have family ties in the Canyon, and plan to move here in the next couple months. “I asked around, many different people in the different communities, and found that people were having to travel to Stayton or Salem for computer repairs. I saw there was a need with the locals here, and I am looking forward to providing them service,” said Lane. “I have never seen such a supportive community. Everyone here has been so helpful and excited to see the prospects of our business coming to town.” He also said that giving back to the community was high on his priority list in the near future. You can meet Will Lane this Saturday, from 9am-6pm at his shop in Gates. “We are still waiting on the telephone company to come hook us up though,” said Lane, noting that internet services were a pretty important aspect of running a computer store. Find them on Facebook: LaneComputerMedic. “We are hoping to have the electronic sales going by 1/1/15. Come down opening day (November 15, 2014) for a 15% discount on all computer repairs.”

“Our apologies for the several late issues during the past several weeks, we have been moving!” said Karen Widmer of the Canyon Weekly. “we love the new space, there is a bit more room, has great hwy frontage and is inspiring us to grow in ways to better serve the communities of the North Santiam Canyon. The Canyon Weekly started as the brainchild of Karen Widmer and Michelle Gates in 2010. For the first year, Karen’s dining room table doubled as the office desk. In 2011, the growing business moved
to a storefront on 1st Avenue in Mill City, “partly so we could house our state of the art/eco friendly xerox printer - and to meet the criteria to become a Newspaper of Legal Record for the North Santiam Canyon.” said Karen Widmer. Karen’s husband, Tim Widmer, became the print and online master, bringing the weekly local newspaper to a new level of readership, While Michelle Gates has stayed on as frequent contributor and the weekly finish editor.
