Statement from the National Weather Service A significant change in the weather pattern is expected the latter part of the Thanksgiving weekend as a very cold weather system moves into the Pacific Northwest. This system will bring snow to the Cascade passes and possibly the coast range with plenty of rain expected for the lowlands.

SCSD Superintendent announces strategic planning forums Dear Santiam Canyon Community Members, I am pleased to announce that, in the next few months, the Santiam Canyon School District will be putting together a strategic plan to help us guide our direction and priorities these upcoming years. We invite the entire community to be part of this process.

Please mark your calendar for: DATE TIME MEETING 12-2-2013 6:30 Strategic Planning Community Forum (in conjunction with Santiam Canyon PTO Meeting) 12-11-2013 6:30 December Board Meeting 1-8-2013 6:30 January Board Meeting 1-10-2013 TBD Strategic Planning Community Forum 6:30 February Board Meeting 2-12-2013 This process will be comprehensive and cover all areas of our school district. For planning purposes, the strategic plan will be organized into ‘buckets’. At this point I have outlined general buckets, but even they can be shaped and edited throughout this process. To help get our discussion started, we will be planning in the categories of: 1. Student Success 2. Staff Development & Recruitment 3. Program Options & Supports 4. Infrastructure (including facilities and technology) 5. Governance & Communication We welcome and encourage staff, parents, students and community members to attend these sessions and become a part of the process. The final document will become our guide for budgeting, planning, professional development and decision-making.

We have a lot of work to do to put this plan together in the next few months, but it will be worth it. Your input is needed and valued!

Our family is going through some significant changes. Karen’s mother health has taken a turn, requiring that she has care around the clock care. For now we will be caring for her in her home near the Oregon Coast to allow her to enjoy the beautiful home she created there.

The Mill City Historical Society will have its Christmas Program December 5th at 7 pm at the Gates Fire Department.

The program will include the North Santiam Canyon Chorus. The chorus is directed

by Jahn Hoover and will be accompanied

by Joanne Hebing on the piano. All are invited to come listen to the 30 member chorus and join in singing Christmas songs.

Public is welcome, and refreshments will follow. Come and Enjoy!
