Days filled with wonder

Train day 1
DENVER — GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO
Embark on your Canyon Spirit journey from the picturesque Denver, Colorado.* Heading west, you’ll be greeted by your first engineering marvel – the Big 10 Curve. As the train ascends, it will cross the Continental Divide through the Moffat Tunnel. Journey along the Colorado River, marveling at the colossal beauty of Byers and Gore canyons. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you pass through Glenwood Canyon, on the Upper Colorado River. Finish your day in Glenwood Springs, where you’ll unwind overnight in a cozy hotel, included as part of your journey.
*You can also choose to travel eastbound, journeying from Moab to Denver.

Train day 2
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO — MOAB, UTAH
As you head southwest, you’ll begin your day surrounded by mountain vistas and desert cliffs. Rugged landscapes lead to the striking 15-mile De Beque Canyon, renowned for its stair-step cliffs of sedimentary rock layers. Continuing west, you’ll encounter Mount Garfield, the pinnacle of the Book Cliffs. Spanning 200 miles from east to west, these sandstone cliffs and mountains mark your transition from Colorado to Utah. Striking red rock formations signal your approach to Moab, the gateway to Utah’s Mighty 5 National Parks.

Route highlights

MOFFAT TUNNEL
As part of your Canyon Spirit journey, you’ll traverse the remarkable Moffat Tunnel, an engineering marvel stretching six miles. Here, the train crosses the Continental Divide, the spine of the Rockies that divides the watersheds flowing west to the Pacific and east to the Atlantic. Spanning 650 miles and crossing 21 counties, the Divide encompasses many of Colorado’s highest peaks.
BURNS CANYON
Passing between the Flat Tops Wilderness on one side and Sawatch Range on the other, you’ll encounter a remote gem. The red walls of Burns Canyon showcase the essence of Colorado’s natural splendor, making it an ideal spot for photographs. Visitors during fall will be treated to a tapestry of orange and gold hues.
GLENWOOD CANYON
The largest canyon on the Upper Colorado River, Glenwood Canyon was sculpted by the Colorado River over three million years. This 16-mile marvel – famous to thrill-seekers for its rushing white water – features an intricate network of caves as well as 40 bridges and two 4,000-footlong tunnels.
From vast canyons to soaring peaks, discover some of the route’s most captivating highlights.

MOUNT GARFIELD
Rising to 6,800 feet, this peak is the highest point along the 200-mile-long Book Cliffs. Named for the 20th President of the United States, James Garfield, the peak is known for its remarkable undulating foothills and commanding presence over the landscape. Mount Garfield is one of the most breathtaking natural features in the region.
RUBY CANYON
Located within the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, this 15-mile canyon – named after its vibrant red sandstone walls – stretches along the Colorado River. While popular for river rafting, Ruby Canyon remains largely inaccessible to most visitors, making your journey through the heart of it all the more memorable.
PRICE CANYON*
Carved by the Price River over millions of years, Price Canyon features towering sandstone cliffs, dramatic rock formations, and lush greenery, creating a visual masterpiece you won’t want to miss. As Price Canyon forms the divide between the Book Cliffs and the dramatic Wasatch Mountains, it makes an incredible backdrop along the route.
*Only seen on our three-day rail journey option.

Mobility requirements
We make every effort to meet any special needs of our guests, as do our hotel partners. For guests using wheelchairs, we provide a lift or ramp to get you on and off the train, and a rail coach with accessible washrooms can be pre - assigned. Please advise us or your travel professional of any mobility needs before booking.
Luggage handling
Your luggage will be delivered to your accommodation in our mid-rail journey overnight destinations: Glenwood Springs and Moab. For all other destinations, please review your final travel documents, which are sent 30 days before your departure, for luggage handling details.
Smoke-free policy
To ensure the preservation of the fragile environment of the areas in which we travel, and for the comfort of all guests, there is no smoking or vaping of any kind. This includes cigarettes, cannabis, cigars, and e-cigarettes onboard Canyon Spirit, its vestibules, and restrooms, as well as inside or outside the stations, on the platforms, and near the tracks.
When to travel
As we operate April through November, you can choose to travel during the spring, summer, or autumn on any of our rail routes. Each season offers a unique experience under very different conditions.
ONBOARD THE TRAIN
Do you sleep on the train?
Our train does not have sleeper cars. As a daylight-only train, you will spend your days on the train and spend your night(s) between train days in a comfortable hotel. This way, you will not miss a moment of the stunning scenery along your journey.
Does Canyon Spirit stop for photographs along the route?
No, but the train slows down at particularly scenic locations to ensure you have time for photographs.
How do you assign seats?
When you check in, you will receive your pre-assigned seat and details of your mid-rail journey overnight accommodation in Glenwood Springs, and in Moab for three-day rail guests. If you have a special seating request, such as sitting near a friend who has booked separately, please advise us at least 45 days in advance. Please note: we are unable to accommodate specific seat or coach requests.
Will there be a range of culinary options available to meet dietary requirements?
Our onboard menu will have a selection of options to cater to various tastes and requirements. If you have a specific dietary requirement, either an allergy or restriction, please inform us directly or through your travel professional at least 60 days prior to the train departure.
What is the protocol concerning gratuities?
Onboard train gratuities are included in prices. Gratuities are not included for driver guides, tour escorts, or porterage for hotels booked through Canyon Spirit. If you are traveling on an organized tour, you may want to check with your Tour Director to confirm whether gratuities have been included in your tour itinerary.
Am I able to move around onboard Canyon Spirit?
One of the advantages of train travel is the spacious room afforded to all guests. We allow safe movement through your own coach, including an outdoor viewing area known as a vestibule, to enjoy fresh air, that is accessible only to guests in your coach. Guests who have selected our Premier upgrade have access to the lounge car, which offers an additional space to enjoy.
Am I able to bring my pet along?
All pets or animals (excluding qualified service animals) are prohibited from traveling onboard Canyon Spirit. If you wish to travel with your service animal, please notify us or your travel professional at the time of booking, or a minimum of 60 days prior to commencing travel with Canyon Spirit.
