What is your name and the name of your business? SPENGA North Dallas Richardson

How long have you been in business? Open February 1st

Tell us about your business. We are a boutique fitness studio that is an unrivaled fitness experience, combining the three pillars of fitness with cardio, strength, and flexibility in every group training session. SPENGA creates a multi-sensory experience with space dedicated to each element of the workout, invigorating aromatherapy, and workouts fueled by energizing DJ-inspired beats. We believe in a community centered on building strong minds and bodies through ride, rep, and revive.

What inspired you to do what you do? We believe in the benefits of class based fitness and fell in love with SPENGA’s 20 minutes of Spin, 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of Yoga format. We feel great every time we workout and know the benefits of being healthy are more important than ever right now in this current environment.

Tells us a favorite story or two about your business. Seeing our members fall in love with the studio, trainers, and workout has been beyond awesome. We had our soft opening January 18th and immediately heard from our members how much they were enjoying the community.

How long have you lived in Canyon Creek? We moved here in 2014. We bought a house near Aldridge and moved over to Prairie Creek in the summer of 2019

What brought you to Canyon Creek? I grew up in Richardson and remember playing golf at Canyon Creek while playing on the golf team for Richardson High School. I always wanted to live in this neighborhood.

What do you love most about living in Canyon Creek? All of our family and friends that are within walking distance. Also taking golf cart rides to the restaurants at Two Creeks.

Tell us about your family. Ben and Leslie Cunningham. We have 4 kids. Brooke is in the 2nd grade at Covenant, Benjamin is in kindergarten at Prairie Creek, JW is 3, and Dylan is 1.

Share with us a funny or awesome story of living in Canyon Creek. I get a hard time that my parents and sister and brother in law (Ross and Becky Ellis) live within walking distance of us. I haven’t gone far from the family

Anything else you’d love for your neighbors to know about your business or you? We want everyone to come try and free session to see if they like it.

Athlete of the Month NICK

Tell us your name, what school you currently attend, and what year you are in school. My name is Nick Kendall and I’m a Senior in John Paul II High School.

What other schools have you attended? St. Paul The Apostle Catholic School.

Tell us what sports or activities you were involved in and why you enjoy it. I am involved in Basketball and have been on the John Paul II High School varsity team for 4 years. I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old and year round basketball since third grade. I was also a member of Richardson Symphony League during my Sophomore year of high school.

Brag on yourself: Tell us your honors and awards in school. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and am a member of National Honor Society.

What’s your favorite subject in school ? My favorite subject is Math but more specifically Statistics and Economics.

Tell us about your plans after graduation. My plans after graduation is to focus on getting a degree in Business Administration. I would also love to play basketball in college, if the right opportunity arises!

Outside of schools and sports, what do you do for fun, hobbies, work, etc.? I like to go to the Gym and hang out with friends.

How long have you lived in Canyon Creek? I have lived in Canyon Creek for 13 years What do you love most about living in Canyon Creek? I love the close-knit community feel by all the neighbors. Our neighbors are more like family!

Tells us a favorite story or two about a big moment or fun moment playing your sport. The first is winning the 2020 TAPPS 6A State Championship, which was the first in John Paul II High School history. We won 40 games and lost 1 earning ourselves a top 40 ranking in the Nation and the number 1 team in Texas. Next is playing against Nationally Ranked teams, but more specifically playing on National Television on Fox Sports against one of the best teams in the country. We ended up winning in Overtime and it was a cool; atmosphere because we played in Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Earlier this year we played in the American Airlines Center. It was always a dream to play on the same court as the Mavericks, and it was awesome to see that dream become a reality!

Share with us a funny or awesome story of living in Canyon Creek. A funny story living in Canyon Creek is almost falling into the creek with my friends when I was younger.

Anything else you would love for your neighbors to know about you? My love for sports started when I was very young. I played basketball, baseball and ran track throughout elementary school. My dad was my basketball mentor and hero. He also coached me for many years. I currently have opportunity to play at the D-3 level in college but am still trying to decide where I would like to attend college.
