Energy Attic - Live your Best Life at Home
We are excited to have the opportunity to feature the Kepner family this month. Kyle and Jazz, best known for giving our neighborhood a great place to hang out and drink fabulous wine, have also been busy adding City Council membership to their resume´of roles. When they aren’t at The Wine Authority or at City Council meetings, they are busy enjoying life with their two sweet kids, Kole and Kendall. Without further ado, let’s meet the Kepners!
Name:
Kyle, Jazz, Kole (12) and Kendall Grace (10)
Where and how did you meet your spouse?
We met on Matchmaker.com in 2003, (which is no longer in existence because Match.com bough the website out.) Our first date was at Avanti in Addison Circle, where Kyle fell in love with me and 2nd date was at Kobe Steaks where I fell in love with Kyle. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Fun fact, because we were an online dating “success”- we were featured in a D Magazine article. You can still Google it at Jazz Dunn Kyle Kepner D Magazine. They said to check it out for a quick laugh at the serious and an easy read.
How long have you been married?
14 years in August.
How long have you lived in Canyon Creek?
Kyle moved to Canyon Creek December of 1978 and started 4th grade at Aldridge the following fall. They bought their first Canyon Creek home in 2005, and are on our 3rd house within the area which is across the alley from where Kyle grew up (and his mom, Pat, still lives there.) We love sending the kids to Nonnie’s whenever possible.
The Kepner Family
What schools do your children attend?
Kole is going into 7th grade at Wilson Middle School and Kendall is going into 5th grade at Aldridge Elementary (which are all the same schools that Kyle attended).
What are the kids involved in?
Kole is an avid Baseball player and this fall he is going to play Football at Wilson. Kendall loves to swim and is a member of COR swim team and is thinking of venturing into volleyball or basketball soon. Kendall also enjoys acting and has been part of Drama Kids through Aldridge for multiple years.
Tell us a favorite story or two about your family.
The Wine Authority is a “family affair”. The kids both have responsibilities at the shop. Kendall Grace oversees coat storage in the winter and is VP of Quality Control (wipes down tables and vacuums) and Kole is VP of Sanitation and Recycling (takes out trash and empty wine bottles). You will also often find them meeting and greeting their valued customers. I am a VP of Entertainment. I’m not allowed to pour wine because I thought the 6 ounce pour line is “only a suggestion”.
Tell us about any organizations that you are involved with.
Kyle is a new member of the Richardson City Council and we both are involved with the Richardson Symphony. Additionally, I am looking for new local charity options that I can participate in along with our children.
What are your careers and where do you work?
Kyle owns The Wine Authority in Canyon Creek and I am in Physician Recruitment at The Delta Companies.
Tell us about your company and how it got its name?
The Wine Authority started off as a wine consulting business in 2011. In 2016, we decided to sell our home and use half the equity to fund a neighborhood wine shop and local hang out. We want folks to feel like they are in an extension of their own home with a sommelier who can help them find a wine they love. We allow folks to bring in whatever food they would like so they can enjoy a meal while visiting. They can also order food to be delivered from The Fifth and Shady’s through the food runners at T.W.A.
What are your hobbies?
We both love to travel and watch our kids doing sports. Kyle likes to golf when he can find the time and I am an avid reader.
What’s your favorite neighborhood spot of Canyon Creek?
We like to keep it local and dine mainly in Richardson. For date nights, you can find us at The Fifth. When with the kids, we enjoy Shady’s and Frankie’s, but the favorites are Sweet Firefly and of course T.W.A.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in the neighborhood?
Since Kyle has lived here over 41 years, he has seen many changes. As a child he would ride his dirt bike on trails east of the dam, and some of their dearest friends live in homes in that same spot now. Kyle saw the creation of Collins, the Slagle turn, and II Creeks. He used to eat at Dairy Queen in the old Bunkies Donuts Building and see movies where Slate is currently. Additionally, UTD used to be a small two-year University when Kyle was growing up.
What do you like to do in your free time?
We both work many hours, so our free time is usually spent with family and friends. It’s a running joke that if you ask for one Kepner you get all the Kepners.
Tell us your favorite family tradition?
We aren’t very sentimental and prefer to make new traditions each year. As long as we are together, every holiday is memorable and very day is a new adventure.
Anything else you would love for your neighbors to know about you?
We feel that Canyon Creek is truly the best place to live and are incredibly blessed with relationships we have created. We are continuously amazed at how inclusive and inviting the neighborhood is to everyone.

Live your best life at home

The mission of Energy Attic is so simple it’s brilliant. Transform attics. Trans-form lives. They operate by doing what’s right, loving people, and working hum-bly to make an eternal difference. Based on Micah 6:8, that vision has been the driving force behind this Christian-owned and operated business for 13 years. Energy Attic Founder and Owner Ryan Amerson and COO Guy Charles be-gin and end each day asking themselves how they can make life better for their clients, their em-ployees, their community, and their world. And their efforts have resulted in 10-fold growth over the years. “We want people to live their best life at home,” Ryan said. “We do our part by making your home more comfortable, improving your indoor air quality, and saving you money on your utility bills. Put simply, we want to transform your attic space which will transform your living space, so you can live your best life.” It’s something they’ve done for over 10,000 happy families, creating environments where people can love others through a comfort-able and safe home. “There’s a Mother Theresa quote we love,” Guy said. “ ‘If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.’ We’re all about creating healthy, comfortable homes so our friends and neighbors can do just that. What could you ac-complish if your home was comfortable and dust and allergies were not an issue?”
