Wild Salmon Express pays visit to the Katzie
The Wild Salmon Express will be landing at the Katzie First Nation this Thursday, bringing attention to issues involving salmon farms. The public is welcome to come to the Swaneset longhouse at 6 p.m. for a feast, to hear presentations and to sign a petition. MP Fin Donnelly will be presenting Bill C518 to the legislature in September. Bill C518 will require open pen salmon farms to change to closed-system farms. The 2010 Wild Salmon Express will travel the Fraser River Basin until Aug. 31. “These salmon supporters will cycle through the Fraser’s 13 sub-watersheds with a mission of connecting the voices, the stories, the knowledge, the concerns and the people who live near the waters of the Fraser River, enabling people to take concrete action based on networked wisdom to promote the sustainability of salmon stocks for future generations,” said a news release. This summer’s Ripple Relay of the Fraser River is a 31-day long Tour de Fraser in the season when spawning sockeye salmon travel upriver.
A charge of supplying liquor to a minor is proceeding to court against a 19-year-old Maple Ridge man. The charge stems from a party in the 12300 block of 205 Street in Maple Ridge on May 15. A 17-year-old female had to be taken to hospital with alcohol poisoning by members of the B.C. Ambulance Service. An investigation into the incident was completed by Ridge Meadows RCMP, which has resulted in the charge being approved. The accused will make his first court appearance in early September.

Ambulance cuts starting to hurt, says NDP
T
he provincial government’s decision to cut 14 ambulances from its transfer fleet in the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley to save money has reduced the service by 29,489 transfers each year, the New Democrats said Monday. A transport ambulance is used to get patients to and from medical appointments at the hospital. Cutting the ambulance transfer fleet is part of a $5.9 million, 36 per cent cut to the services that was enacted July 1, according to an NDP release. “Patients all over the region are paying a high price for the cut to transfer services,” said Adrian Dix, NDP health critic. “It has led to long waiting times, with some patients waiting until two or three in the morning before they get back to their hospital room or home. This causes delays and problems at a time when hospitals are jammed. It is a false economy with a heavy price for patients and staff alike.” The NDP cited the example of Christine Stirman of Surrey, who suffers from the motor neuron disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also
It
known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Stirman has had to wait as long as eight hours to get home from Surrey Memorial Hospital, returning at one time as late as 3:30 a.m. She’s also been forced to miss medical appointments because a transfer ambulance was not available. According to her daughter, Tina Da Costa, the cut has been more detrimental now that her mother is also suffering from an extreme case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. “Many of her blisters are open wounds, susceptible to secondary bacterial infection. Our top priority in treating this disease is preventing secondary infections, as there is no treatment for the Hand, Foot and Mouth virus itself,” she stated in a chronology backgrounder the NDP also released. “Incidentally, this condition is also contagious, which means not only was my mother at risk, but it was also not in the best interest of the public for her to be in a location that was so heavily
populated by other ill individuals.” Before the service cuts, Stirman’s daughter said the longest her mother had to wait for an ambulance to take her either to or from the hospital was 30 to 90 minutes. On July 17th she waited eight hours for the ambulance after being discharged from hospital, where she had gone for an assessment as her blisters were worsening. Other waits have been in the five-hour range. Her family now says they feel a great sense of helplessness as the blisters keep developing but they are concerned about the waiting times in hospital. “She will be exposed to germs and bacteria that could potentially be lethal. We already suspect she may have potentially picked up this virus in the hospital as no one involved in her care and no family members have or have had this virus, her daughter wrote. — Postmedia Network. Two arrested in bar fight case Family members of a Maple Ridge man who suffered brain damage during a bar fight say they’re relieved that two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. “Hopefully, they get what they deserve,” said Christina Parent, ex-wife of Delane Parent, who was involved in a brawl at Wolf Bar on Lougheed Highway in June. Parent walked away with minor injuries, but two days later he was found collapsed in his home suffering from stroke-like symptoms. Parent remains in hospital, paralyzed on his right side and barely able to talk, his ex-wife said. “He’s able to use his leg a little bit. Still can’t use his arm,” she said. “The talking’s
not going to come back much, because parts of his brain are actually dead.” The father of two teenagers loved carrying on a conversation, she added. Ridge Meadows RCMP have recommended charges of assault causing bodily harm and aggravated assault against two men arrested Aug. 6. Their names will be released if charges are approved by Crown counsel. “We’re not alluding to where these people work,” an RCMP spokesman said. “However, a good part of our investigation was surrounding people who are staff at the Wolf bar.” — By Laura Baziuk with files from Cheryl Chan/Postmedia Network

❚ News Crime
Cops looking into ‘cat burglaries’ Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating a break in to a home on 205A Street in Maple Ridge. It is believed the burglary occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday with the thieves gaining entry through a sliding door at the back of the home. The thieves made off with some guitars, a television, an X-Box and games. “We want to alert our citizens to two similar ‘cat burglary’ style break-ins.” Said Inspector Derren Lench. “With the warm weather, people have had their windows and doors open more than usual, and sometimes these windows and doors do not get closed, or locked, making it easy for a thief to gain entry. “Most thieves do not want anyone around when they’re committing their crimes, so these types of incidents do not happen often. If you think there’s someone inside your home, try to call police without alerting the suspects. In many cases, you might have to wait for the criminals to leave your home before calling. Police will continue to patrol our residential neighbourhoods, looking for anyone suspicious.” ❚ Just after 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 19, Ridge Meadows RCMP were advised of a theft of a motor scooter that had taken place just over 2 hours previous on 102 Avenue in Maple Ridge. The investigator made sure the details of the theft were sent out to police agencies, and adjoining RCMP detachments right away. This went a long way, as a traffic stop in the Mission RCMP Detachment area resulted in the recovery of the scooter, and the arrest of three individuals. Inspector Derren Lench said that “getting the details as quick as we did really helped us get the word out. Quite often people hesitate in calling the police, but the sooner we’re notified, the better
chance we have of getting property back, and locating the person responsible.” ❚ Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating a home break in where the suspects stole a significant amount of jewelry from a senior woman. The incident occurred between 8:15 and 11 a.m. Thursday in the 12300 block of 216 Street in Maple Ridge. The thieves entered the home by climbing through an open window. ❚ An alert citizen is being credited with assisting in the arrest of a well-known 33-yearold man. Just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, the citizen observed the suspect stealing a neighbour’s bicycle.
The bike’s owner was called by the witness, and advised of the theft and a description of the thief. The bike’s owner then recovered the bike at the end of Somerset Drive in Pitt Meadows, near the owner’s home. He then located the suspect just outside the Real Canadian Superstore, and contacted Ridge Meadows RCMP. Police attended and in identifying the thief located merchandise the man had just stolen from the Superstore. Police also found the suspect to be in violation to conditions that were imposed on Aug. 16 when the man was released by the courts. He was held for a first court appearance on Monday.

Artificial turf war begins Football advocate wants better access to new field on Friday nights.

T
he $2 million facelift on the playing field behind Pitt Meadows Secondary School is officially complete. Soccer teams began practicing on the 75 x 160metre, synthetic turf field last week. It is now the primary practice facility for Pitt Meadows Soccer Club programs, and the first games will be held during the club’s Labour Day Youth Tournament. Funding for the project was divided five ways: grants of $595,000 each from federal, provincial, and municipal governments, $300,000 from the local school district, and $100,000 from the PMSC. School groups have access to the field until 5 p.m. weekdays, while local community groups have permit access to the facility from 5-10 p.m. daily. The new field completes a goal set six years ago by the PMSC. In its previous incarnation, the field was in desperate need of an upgrade. “It was in poor shape,” PMSC past president Rob Palis related. “Sports teams were unable to use it with any confidence. Due to changing weather conditions, the old field would get torn up if used in the rain.” What was once a poor quality grass field is now a multi-use, state-of-theart facility. However, the football program at Pitt Meadows Secondary may be suffering because of PMSC’s stranglehold on field times, according to the school’s athletic director Rich Goulet. Because the school only has possession of the field until 5 p.m. on weekdays, the football

Pitt Meadows Soccer Club past president Rob Palis and president Chris Begg unfurled the club’s banner while standing on the new synthetic turf field behind Pitt Meadows Secondary School. Troy Landreville/TIMES program will only be able to play one Friday night game. And that’s contrary to what high school football is all about, said Goulet. “The first thing you think of when you’re talking about high school football is Friday night lights.” While Goulet couldn’t stress enough how happy he is with the field, he also said that because football referees are at a premium, teams can’t just schedule their games whenever they want. This means that the school’s football teams will need to play their games starting at 3 p.m., which won’t allow many parents to see their sons play. It also means that students will need to leave school early in order to prepare for games, and visiting teams will need to leave even earlier. “We weren’t asked for any input on the field’s contract...” said Goulet. “It wasn’t going to be built without the contract... All we needed was five Friday nights.” PMSS is set to have football
teams at the Grade 8, junior varsity and varsity levels and will struggle to find field time for the three teams with only two hours of practice time after school on weekdays. “We had to lobby just to get an extra hour of time on gamedays just because we can’t stop a game right at five o’clock [when PMSC gets the field] if it’s not over yet, said Goulet. “I’ll still take the field, though, and work out the politics later.” The PMSC is now in discussion with the City, as well as Parks and Leisure, on the construction and design of a field accessible washroom and shower building for field users, which will complete the project in its entirety. The sand-based field won’t get water-logged because it is equipped with drainage ducts, which will help prevent any water retention, and the lighting allows for maximum use throughout each day, Palis noted. — With additional reporting by Scott McKenzie

❚ Our View
Paltry bail too low for this accused
The story of Aleksandr Plehanov, a substitute teacher facing five counts of sexual interference, is shocking on many levels. While we extend Plehanov the same consideration we would give to any person accused of a crime — the presumption of innocence until proven guilty — we wonder why the court decided to grant him bail. Shouldn’t anyone accused of sex crimes against children be held in custody until trial due to the serious nature of the allegations? Not in the court’s view. Plehanov was originally released on a $500 recognizance, which means he wasn’t actually required to hand over $500 to the court. Nor was he required to leave a deposit or have another person agree in writing to be responsible for him until the case is over. In effect, the $500 recognizance was meaningless. After a May 13 court appearance to face a fourth count of sexual interference, Plehanov was ordered to pay a “cash bail” of $400 — meaning he did actually have to pay that amount. Four weeks later, he was back in court to face a new charge of criminal harassment. This time, the court released him on a cash bail of $1,000. When “Only $1,400 in bail? That hardly he returned seems like enough considering the to court last week to face serious nature of the charges.” a fifth charge of sexual interference, he was not asked to pay any more. Let’s get this straight: a person accused of five counts of sexual interference and one count of criminal harassment is asked to pay only $1,400 in bail? That hardly seems like enough considering the serious nature of the charges. The only reason we’re learning of the details of Plehanov’s bail is because the Crown wants him to forfeit the first payment of $400 for breaching the conditions of his release. So what is the point of bail anyway? If it’s to keep accused criminals on the straight and narrow while they await trial, shouldn’t the amounts be set higher for serious charges? After all, bail for disgraced cancer fundraiser Steve Fonyo was set at $20,000 after he was accused of credit card fraud. Since he couldn’t pay, he remained in custody. Of course, Fonyo has an extensive criminal record, a factor that likely influenced the amount of his bail. But really, a total of $1,400 for charges of sex crimes against children? Only in the court’s world would that amount be high enough. ■ Your View Last week’s question Should the Tamil refugees be allowed to stay in Canada? YES 11.43% NO

❚ Mailbag thousands of homeless that are already here and whose needs are being ignored by all levels of government. Even if the “system” identifies terrorists amongst the immigrants, even if after years of appeals and retrials they are ordered out of the country, history has shown that they will remain, or will soon return. The only people that the present system rewards are the lawyers, federal official, and the criminals that have brought them to our shores. The Sri Lankans are simply being used. They are a source of profit. They are simply a group capable of paying sufficiently to buy their way to the front of the line. This has little to do with true refugees, the worldwide accepted process for orderly relocation of the world’s most needy, or what is right. If the present “shipment” is delivered successfully, there will be thousands more coming. What will we do then? Graham Mowatt Maple Ridge
Broken ambulance a sign of the times Editor:
On Aug. 18, I was staining the top of the fence and standing on a three-step ladder. As I stepped down, I fell. An ambulance was called. There were no ambulances available in Maple Ridge so one came from Port Moody. The paramedics did an excellent job. However, the ambulance would not start. The paramedics called for another ambulance; it came from Mission and I was transported to the hospital. The paramedics from Port Moody had to call a taxi for themselves. A tow truck took the ambulance away. Considering the lapse of time from the event of the 911 call to my arrival at the hospital, had this event been life-threatening, the outcome would have been much more serious than what it was; that is, a broken collarbone and wrist. This experience of mine is just one example of the negative effects caused by government cutbacks to ambulance services, including the lack of proper maintenance of vehicles. Past is a blast Editor:
I read Alan Woodland’s article with a smile, (Market awakens war memories, Aug.
20). Like him I am British born and within a few years of similar age. Although it is the aftermath of war I remember most when rationing was in place and there was little to be had. When sugar came off ration I was about five years old and mom gave me six pence (I can’t tell you what the equivalent would be) to go up to the corner store and buy broken tea biscuits. My husband, who is a few years older than I, tells the tale of an incendiary shell whizzing through the bars of his baby crib and settling in the wall above his head just as the china cupboard came down over the crib and saved him from death as a V1 bomb had skidded over the house roof and taken it off. He says that when the warden crawled in to see if he was all right he was fast asleep. What a nightmare for his mother. His article also made me think that we don’t seem to have learned much over the years. There are still mothers around the world waiting for the bombs to fall. Folks giving up their lives for freedom from terror. Thanks Alan for a blast from the past, as they say. Liz Hancock Maple Ridge

Jail the captain Editor:
Your recent editorial followed by a reader’s personal story of her family’s difficulties as a refugee are moving but miss a vital reality. This is not an isolated incident of refugees trying to start a new life. This is but a trial balloon carefully orchestrated by the worse kind of criminals, human smugglers looking at ways to profit. Why are there families with children included? Just a means to an end. If it was an isolated incident that would not be repeated, I would suggest that we should forgo the hypocrisy that is presently being followed and immediately allow all 500 refugees to enter Canada. Imprison the captain and crew for 20 years and sell the ship for scrap so that it will never again be used to smuggle human beings. Spend the millions of dollars that the present process will waste to help the

Banners turned into chic bags About three years ago the Downtown Maple Ridge BIA produced about 85 nylon street banners. The banners were individually handpainted by school children throughout School District 42. Eventually these unique designs must be retired, so rather than sending them to the landfill the BIA has come up with a green idea — with the help of the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women they have been transformed into reusable nylon shopping bags, According to the BIA, it has avoided making 21,600 plastic bags each year, avoided sending 301 kilograms (663 pounds) of nylon to the landfill, saved up to 363 gallons of oil, freed up
80 trees to capture and store CO2 from other sources for a full year “This green initiative even goes one step further,” explains Ineke Boekhorst, executive director of DMRBIA. “All proceeds from the sale of these shopping bags will be used for development of new green spaces in downtown Maple Ridge.” Small bags will be sold for $6 and large bags for $8 each, two for $15 or three for $20. Available from the DMRBIA office 22362 Lougheed Hwy., or at the Summer Markets on Aug. 28 and Sept. 25. ❚ For any further details call 467-2420 or inquiries@downtownmapleridge.ca.

Breastfest in park Saturday T
he United Circle of Arts Society is presenting the third annual Breastfest Aug. 28 at Memorial Peace Park. Breastfest is a free, all ages, drug and alcohol free music festival staged to spread awareness of the fight against breast cancer. There will be non-stop music from 3-10 p.m. including the headline band TV Heart Attack. Other bands playing will include The Bone Daddies, The Wrecktails, Ruskin, Alice B. Army, The Patience Product, Bugsy Jive, and a 60’s, 70’s and 80’s cover band called Contraband. There will also be airbrush tattoos, a barbecue at Kazy’s Kafe, and Starbucks coffee. “In 2008, the event started with one man and a backyard,” said Chad Williams, one of the event’s organizers. Rory Speirs, one of the event’s original organizers, figures that the best way to get the message across to young people is by delivering it through their voices and talents. Speirs said that he got the idea when he was much younger and his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2008, he was finally at an age where he could so something about it. From there, Breastfest was born. “Unexpectedly, we found connections to the Memorial Peace Park,” said Williams. Williams said that each year the festival has found more support, along with grants from the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Festivals office, Arts Council, and the Rotary Club’s Wine Festival. “Those grants teamed up with support from Rocky
Mountain Productions and Sure Copy means all our costs are met and all proceeds will be going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society,” said Williams. Organizers of the festival are continuously looking for volunteers, booths and any other ideas to promote the festival and its cause. Anyone wanting to participate can e-mail breastfest08@ gmail.com.

Burrards take league awards
Maple Ridge native Nehemie Kankolongo will be attending the Univesity of Wyoming on a football scholarship this school year.
The WLA awards were revealed last week and the Maple Ridge Burrards had two league all-stars for the second straight year. Goaltender Ron Schibild was named first team goaltender and forward Jarrett Davis was named as a second team all-star. Schibild was also given the Leo Nicholson Trophy for goaltender of the year with an 8.14 goals against average and a .800 save percentage. Davis finished fifth in league scoring with 24 goals and 49 assists for 73 points in 2010. Coquitlam’s Dane Dobbie, who was selected after the Burrards picked Tyler Codron in the 2008 draft, was named as the league’s most valuable player.

Peewee Knights finish second at Chilli Bowl The Meadow Ridge peewee Knights, coming off their first place finish at their home tournament last weekend, won three games and lost one in Chilliwack’s tournament Sunday. The Chilliwick Blue Giants, who won the tournament, were the only team to score on the Knights when they drove down the field on their first posession and scored. The Giants beat the Knights 6-0. Before that game, the Knights beat North Surrey 26-0, and also shutout Coquitlam and the Chilliwack Red Giants later in the day. Rushing touchdowns came from Jeremie Kankolongo, Drake Kindred and Jaden Shanley. Kankolongo also returned an interception for a touchdown. The Knights’ tournament MVP was defensive end Trent Cooper, who had multiple sacks and tackles for losses throughout the day.
Flames’ exhibition schedule underway
The Ridge Meadows Flames are plugging away at their exhibition schedule, already having played three games this past week. They started with a 3-2 overtime win in a rookies only game against Aldergrove on Wednesday, but lost 3-2 in overtime to Port Moody Friday and also lost against Gardenview Sunday 4-2.

Books get mind moving by Susan Redmond editorial@mrtimes.com
Take a Peek! For those of you who have been to my storytimes, you know I like to wiggle my waggle. So naturally I could not resist taking a peek at Michael Ian Black’s Chicken Cheeks. This book will help you to develop an interesting collection of words for, well, you know, your behind, as well as solving the mystery of what it is that the bear is looking at. Kevin Hawkes’ charming illustrations help make this a fun story for the whole family. A real “must read.” Looking for a new bedtime story? Try The Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood. There are various types of quiet - “last one to get picked up from school quiet,” “sleeping sister quiet,” “pretending you’re invisible quiet” - each with its own distinct mood. With fittingly muted illustrations, this endearing, understated and gently humorous book captures the essence of each sort of silence. It is bound to become a classic. Do you have a child who is fascinated by bugs? Then The Bugliest Bug by Carol Diggory Shields is the book for you. It is populated with everything from no-see-ums to stink bugs to termite queens. Shields’ clever verse combined with Scott Nash’s lively illustrations bring the characters in this story to life and really show the reader what it takes to be the “bugliest” bug. If you have not read any of Jan Thomas’ books, then now is the time to start. Rhyming Dust Bunnies is a hilarious story of four dust bunnies named Ed, Ned, Ted and Bob. Thomas’ bright, primary coloured drawings are wonderfully done and help move the story to its inevitable conclusion. This book will hook you into Thomas’s work and leave you wanting more.
Too often as parents we look for storybooks for our children while ignoring some wonderful picture books in the non-fiction or fact book area! If you’re tired of the same old ABC books, you’ll have to try LMNO Peas by Keith Baker. Written in rhyme, this lovely picture book teaches children their ABCs while using interesting vocabulary not normally seen in this genre. The bright, colourful illustrations will invite conversation while you and your child find out exactly what those crazy peas are doing. Check it out! It is easy to see why Birdsongs, by Steve Jenkins and Betsy Franco was chosen as a Caldecott Honor book. Jenkins uses a variety of textures and media to create delightful illustrations of birds that are almost photographic in quality. Each page has a new bird and its song. Franco’s text offers “feathery facts,” and also hides some counting practice! This is a wonderful book to cozy up with and share with your child. Which Way? by Marthe Jocelyn introduces children to how people navigate the world. Simple text and bright pictures illustrate travel essentials like road signs, directions and stoplights as well as various forms of transportation. This is a wonderful first concept book that is not to be missed. And don’t forget to come and celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club with us on Tuesday, August 24 at the bandstand in Memorial Peace Park. The party starts at 3:30 pm with children’s musician Will Stroet performing his original, high-energy and interactive music. Come and collect your medal for all the reading you have done over the summer and dance along with Will’s awardwinning music! Susan Redmond is a librarian at the Maple Ridge Public Library.
It’s easy to green up lunches
This is the season for school lunches, as thousands of students will be heading back to the classroom...and lunchroom. For those who will be bringing a lunch from home, there are ways to make it healthy for the body and the planet. 1. Choose foods the child will eat. Nothing is more wasteful than a lunch that ends up in the trash rather than the stomach. Instead of experimenting with foods that one would hope a child will eat, select items that have a past track record for success. 2. Skip the brown bags. Certain children may relish the idea of bringing in a character-
themed lunch box. Older children may scoff at the idea. But the fact is that disposable paper lunch bags are wasteful and reusable lunch carriers are much more eco-friendly. Today there are lunch bags that are subdued in color and style and are often insulated to keep food at the right temperature. 3. Select organic foods. Whether the child is bringing in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a pizza on a pita, choose foods that are organically grown or local. Supermarkets now stock the shelves with plenty of organic options that are free from pesticides and harmful growing practices. These
foods are healthier and more sustainable. 4. Buy favourite foods in bulk. If the child loves cereal treats or whole-grain granola bars, buy the big box and store it in the pantry. This saves on packaging and extra trips to the store, both of which are wasteful. 5. Use reusable containers. Rather than packing a sandwich in a plastic baggie or a piece of plastic wrap, select a series of sandwich holders, containers and the like that can transport the lunch contents to and from school. Sure they’ll have to be washed each night, but children won’t be contributing to extra waste.

Health
Protect kids when choosing backpacks W
hen it comes to backpack safety, most people tend to think about injuries caused by a heavy backpack or one worn improperly. However, there are other dangers associated with backpacks and caution should be used. Backpacks come in all shapes and sizes and can be a handy tool for students or adults. When worn correctly, with weight evenly distrubuted across the back and shoulders, backpacks can be safer and more effective than using a purse or briefcase. But many people wear overly loaded backpacks slung over one shoulder, which can pose problems with posture and lead to back issues. In addition to the physical strain backpacks can cause, they can be a danger in other ways. Many people fail to recognize how much space a backpack can take up. Entering the tight quarters of a school bus or commuting on a train or bus means a bulky backpack can knock into other people. If that backpack is full of heavy, cumbersome books or even a laptop computer, an inadvertent bump by the pack can cause injuries. Also, backpacks taken off and placed in bus aisles can be a tripping hazard. Students also can be injured if a heavy pack falls on them. Children tucking backpacks
into lockers or classroom cubbies may find that they slide out and hit another classmate. Backpacks change the way individuals walk. Because the person is carrying around extra weight, he or she may lose balance or trip and fall, especially when going down steps. To avoid these secondary hazards from backpacks, consider these tips. * Don’t overload a backpack. Carry only what is necessary. If too many books are the issue, parents should talk to the school administrators and teachers to reach a happy medium regarding textbook usage. * When on the bus, safely store the backpack on a lap or under the seat. Be sure straps or the pack itself is not extending into the aisle. * Avoid rolling backpacks, which can be difficult to roll. Some schools ban these styles because of tripping hazards. * Recognize how much space the backpack takes up when worn. Be conscious of others when turning around or entering a confined space. * Hold on to stair rails and do not run with a heavy backpack to help avoid slips and falls. * Choose a lightweight backpack. Canvas backpacks are generally lighter in weight than leather backpacks. Do not add extra weight unnecessarily.

SUDOKU Fun By The Numbers
Like puzzles? Then you'll love Sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your Sudoku savvy to the test!
office: 604 937-7343 cell: 778 848-5993
Here's How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a Sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Pricing are in effect until closing Thursday, August 26, 2010 or while stock lasts. We reserve the right to limit quantities. Some items may have ‘plus deposit and/or environmental charge’ where applicable.
*PRICE MATCH. We determine a major competitor based on our assessment of a number of relevant factors that may vary by region. “Items you buy most” refers to our top selling products. We check competitor pricing on the majority of items you buy most on a weekly basis; and in all cases, no less than quarterly. We may not match a competitor’s short term promotional pricing activities(ie. one day sales or ‘door crashers’) or other promotional pricing activities such as ‘2 for 1’ or ‘buy 1 get 1 free’. We do not Price Match all items at all times; where we have Price Matched an item, it will be identified in-store. This is not a price match guarantee where we match any competitor price you find. PRICE CUT. Longer term price reductions on items identified in-store. “Items that matter most to you” refers to our top selling products. WEEKLY SPECIAL. Typically in effect from Friday to Thursday of each week on items identified in-store and/or in flyer.
