A Coquitlam man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck and trailer in Fort Langley on Saturday afternoon. At about 5:15 p.m., Langley RCMP were called to the crash on 232nd Street just south of Rawlison Crescent. The seriously injured rider, a 51-year-old man, was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance, but couldn’t be resuscitated. Staff Sgt. Bill Sharp said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have contributed to the fatal crash, and police were still investigating the cause over the weekend. Sharp noted that the stretch of road where the crash occurred includes a sharp Scurve, a steep incline, and limited visibility.

There will be a long delay in the Brent Parent trial. by Matthew Claxton mclaxton@langleyadvance.com

The start of the Davey Mato Butorac murder trial has been delayed again. The trial, which was first scheduled to start at the beginning of this month and then on May 17, has now been pushed back to May 25. When he was arrested Jan. 7, 2008, Butorac, an Aldergrove resident, was charged with the murders of 50-year-old Sheryl Lynn Koroll of Langley, and 46year-old Gwendolyn Jo Lawton of Abbotsford. Butorac has been in custody ever since his arrest. Butorac has also been charged in connection with a third murder, the slaying of 48-year-old Margaret Redford of Aldergrove. That trial has not yet been scheduled.

One car flipped and hit two more after the collision on Highway 10 at 192nd Street. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month in B.C. Drivers are being reminded to watch out for riders, who are more vulnerable. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200. Another accident a short time later snarled traffic near the Langley-Surrey border. Four cars collided at the corner of 192nd Street and Highway 10, including one that was flipped on its side. A white Infiniti was turning left from the highway south onto 192nd Street. A Dodge
pickup heading east on the highway slammed into the van’s passenger side. The Infiniti rolled on its side and slammed into two more vehicles that were stopped on 192nd waiting for the light to change. An Air Ambulance was called over concerns about head injuries, but did not take away any of the injured. None of the injuries were life threatening, according to Surrey RCMP. The driver of the Infiniti was given a ticket for failing to yield, after apparently pulling out into oncoming traffic.
The trial for one of the most notorious crimes in recent Langley history will take place more than a year from now. Brent Donald Parent has been scheduled to go on trial for criminal negligence causing death, along with other charges, from Sept. 12 to 30, 2011. A pre-trial hearing will be held in June. The schedule was determined after a hearing in New Westminster Supreme Court last week. The incident that led to the trial took place on March 13, 2008, on 16th Avenue. Silas O’Brien and two friends were driving to the airport when their truck was allegedly driven off the road by another vehicle. While the three young men were standing outside checking for damage, the vehicle returned and ran down O’Brien. In addition to criminal negligence, Parent faces charges of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving, failure to stop, and failure to offer assistance.
