The bomb scare at a Tsawwassen office building Thursday afternoon turned out to be nothing but a threat. Delta police received a call just after 2 p.m. from an office in a building in the 1500block of 56th Street. The office had received a call from an unknown male claiming there was a bomb in the building, said Insp. Jamie Ewatski. A/Sgt. Paul Eisenzimmer said the call was directed at the Responsible Driver Program office. Several units responded to the area and the occupants of the three-storey office building, as well as a few surrounding homes and businesses, were evacuated. Two RCMP bomb-sniffing dogs were brought in from Port Coquitlam. Police also closed off 56th Street between 16th and 14th avenues for more than two hours as the threat was investigated. By about 5:30 p.m., after the dogs had searched the building, police determined there was no bomb and started allowing people back into the homes and buildings. Ewatski said there are no suspects at this time but the incident is still under investigation.

Police officers made several arrests Wednesday after executing a search warrant at a farm on 28th Avenue.

Police are releasing little information about a significant drug bust in South Delta earlier this week. The Delta police drug section executed a search warrant in the early morning hours Wednesday at two residences on a farm on 28th

Avenue just east of Highway 17. The Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team as well as the Vancouver police department’s emergency response team assisted local officers. A/Sgt. Paul Eisenzimmer said the extra manpower was required “due to the nature of the search

warrants and the potential for high risk.” “The properties have been contained and there is no danger to the public,” Eisenzimmer said. Officers seized undisclosed drugs and several arrests were See DRUG BUST page 3
