Teacher charged in sex assaults

Chilliwack elementary school teacher is charged with sexually assaulting at least two students. Jason Epp, a Grade 2 teacher at Sardis elementar y school, appeared before a provincial court judge May 13 to face two counts each of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference. He was released on bail

Wednesday and ordered not to have contact with children under the age of 16. He will reappear in court on June 1 for an arraignment hearing. Neither the RCMP nor administrators at Sardis elementary would comment on the case Monday. A
press conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the charges. The Times has learned, however, that Epp was placed on personal leave on May 4. He had taught Grade 2 at Sardis for several years and was the school’s lead tech
teacher, according to a post he made on an Internet forum last November. Last year he was lauded by the school board for his work as part of a team that introduced students and staff to the school district’s new computer system.

small group of Chilliwack River Valley residents went to Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner’s office Monday morning to present a petition opposing a gravel mine application in the Larson’s Bench area. “We are asking you to place a moratorium on this project until the proper environmental assessments have been completed,” Jennifer Federspiel said to Penner’s staff after presenting the petition with 856 signatures.
