t least one property coowned by Chilliwack MLA and former mayor John Les is among 66 parcels subdivided improperly over the last two decades, according to a new Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) report. Nearly one-third of all boundary adjustment subdivisons made in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) in Chilliwack between 1991 and 2009 were called âinconsistent with the regulations.â âNot only are these subdivisions considered to be contrary to the spirit of the regulations, but also in

forward to meeting with the commission to discuss it. She added that since the ALC rules changed in 2002 there have been 11 files deemed inconsistent. âSome of those inconsistencies we absolutely agree with,â she told the Times Thursday, but added, âThere are some that were doubtful.â Of the 11 files since 2002 the ALC approved four of them, according to Gaetz. hilliwack school trustees canât seem to agree on the best way to trim their governance budget. For the second school board meeting in a row, trustees have voted down motions aimed at cutting about $50,000 from the cost of doing what they do. At Tuesdayâs meeting, trustee John-Henry Harter floated the idea of asking the Ministry of Education to eliminate two of Chilliwackâs seven trustee positions. âWeâre always talking about having to cut staff and we never have considered discussing a reduction in the number of trustees,â he said. Under the provinceâs School Act, boards of education can be comprised of three, five, seven or nine trustees as determined by the Ministry of Education. Harter admitted the estimated $50,000 the board would save by eliminating two trustees was a token amount given the districtâs $100 million-plus budget, but said it was an important gesture given the districtâs plan to cut 61 jobs next year to meet a nearly $5 million shortfall. âI think it shows weâre willing to look to ourselves, and that weâre not deeming ourselves irreplaceable,â he said.
