At Canuck Place we can’t add days to the life of a child. But we can add life to their days.

Welcome to the second Annual Gift of Love Gala presented by MNP. Thank you for taking the time this evening to be our guests and to contemplate and celebrate how we savour life at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

Two decades ago, our founders had a vision of creating a pediatric palliative care hospice to care for BC’s children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Now, 20 years later, Canuck Place celebrates a remarkable story of exceptional, innovative and world-leading pediatric palliative care for BC’s sickest kids. Our second provincial hospice serving children and the families who love them is right here in Abbotsford. It is thanks to your generosity and kindness that our work is possible. We are grateful for the investment of our donors and partners.

We would like to extend our gratitude to MNP, our presenting partner of the Gift of Love and a committed partner to Canuck Place. CANUCK PLACE FAMILY SPEAKER: ANDREW PUTT Little Lilee Jean and her parents, Andrew and Chelsey, were welcomed into Canuck Place in August 2013 after an extremely difficult period in their lives.

When she was just 10 months old, Lilee was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiformae, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Lilee was a brave spirit and endured 24 cycles of chemotherapy with her parents at her side. Through the long hospital stays, the surgeries and treatments, she remained a vibrant child who loved music, dancing and princesses (Cinderella was her favourite).

Lilee was lovingly cared for by nurses, physicians, counsellors, recreation therapists, cooks, and gentle volunteers at Canuck Place in September of 2013. In the peaceful room at Canuck Place, Lilee passed away in her mother’s arms while her father strummed his guitar for his little girl. She was surrounded by love within an environment dedicated to ensuring her family had every resource they needed to cope with an unimaginable loss.

The support continues and Canuck Place is committed to ensuring Lilee’s legacy of love endures. Canuck Place provides bereavement counselling to an integral part of Canuck Place care for families like Andrew’s.

We’re honoured to welcome Andrew to our Gift of Love Gala as a friend and member of our Canuck Place family.
