Marketing Matters Small Business Saturday: Turning OneTime Shoppers into Year-Round Regulars Capture more local holiday spending through timely promotions, strategic partnerships, and stronger customer connections

Data-Driven Marketing Solutions

On Saturday, November 28, 2026, Small Business Saturday will encourage consumers to shop locally, creating opportunities for businesses across our region to boost Q4 sales and build customer relationships that extend into 2027. Chamber members can capitalize on the occasion through targeted promotions, collaborative marketing, and local business partnerships.

Brick-and-Mortar: Drive Foot Traffic & Repeat Sales Small Business Saturday can bring additional shoppers into retail stores, restaurants, cafés, and local venues. The goal is to turn that November traffic into repeat visits during the slower months of January and February. • Beat the Q1 Slowdown with Bounce-Back Offers: Give customers a voucher with their November 28 purchase that’s redeemable in January or February 2027, encouraging them to return after the holiday rush. • Create Neighborhood Cross-Promotions: Partner with nearby businesses to exchange customer incentives. For example, a boutique could offer a discount at a neighboring coffee shop, while the coffee shop promotes an exclusive offer at the boutique. Both businesses benefit from increased exposure and potential new customers.

Online & Service Businesses: Digital Promotions & Holiday Offers Online businesses and service providers can participate in Small Business Saturday without being open on November 28. Launching promotions during Thanksgiving week gives customers time to explore offers and make purchases online. • Launch Thanksgiving Week Promotions: Schedule email campaigns, social media posts, and website offers ahead of November 28. Give customers time to explore your offers and make it easy to purchase gift cards, book services, or take advantage of limited-time promotions online. • Create Giftable Service Packages: Offer digital gift cards or prepaid packages for services such as home cleaning, interior design consultations, fitness sessions, or wellness treatments. Present them as holiday gifts with clear pricing and simple purchasing options. • Partner with Local Retailers: Work with a participating retailer to offer a complementary service or exclusive perk with qualifying purchases. For example, a home décor shop could include an offer for an interior design consultation, introducing shoppers to a local service provider.

Connect with Local Businesses Through the Chamber Directory The Canton Regional Chamber Business Directory is a useful resource for planning Small Business Saturday partnerships and finding local vendors for year-end business purchases. • Find Cross-Promotion Partners: Search the directory by category or location to identify businesses that complement your own. For example, a wellness provider could partner with a local juice bar on a joint promotion, or a boutique could team up with a nearby salon to offer customers exclusive discounts. • Source Year-End Purchases Locally: Use the directory to find fellow Chamber members for corporate gifts, holiday catering, employee appreciation items, and business supplies. These purchases support local companies while building relationships that can continue into the new year. PRO-TIP FROM UB ADVERTISING Set aside 10 minutes this week to explore the Chamber Directory and identify potential partners. Reach out by November 13 to give everyone time to coordinate promotions, prepare marketing materials, and launch campaigns ahead of Small Business Saturday on November 28. Planning a joint promotion? UB Advertising can help you develop your campaign strategy and prepare your holiday landing pages to turn seasonal interest into sales.

Canton Regional Chamber 401(k) Retirement Program

A strong retirement benefit program can help businesses of all sizes gain a competitive edge to attract and retain talent — but it can also mean added costs and responsibility. A multiple employer plan (MEP) may be an attractive option for businesses seeking to ease the administrative burden, fiduciary risk, and expense of offering a quality retirement plan. The Canton Regional Chamber has partnered with the Greater Akron Chamber to offer this benefit to all members.

What is a MEP? It’s a retirement plan sponsored by one entity for unrelated organizations that share a common business interest.

How it works •

MEP sponsor is the “lead” plan and generally the plan administrator and fiduciary

•

“Adopting employers” can elect to join the MEP

•

These plans can be defined contribution (DC) or defined benefit (DB) plans

•

At any time, adopting employers are easily integrated into the plan hosted by the sponsor and tracked on the Transamerica platform

MEP sponsor

Adopting employers

Member benefits The key to outstanding support for this MEP starts with Transamerica’s sophisticated recordkeeping platform. Our ability to track adopting employers using one contract allows you to enjoy the following benefits: •

Flexible plan features (safe harbor, Roth, etc.) and customizable plan design (eligibility, matching contribution formula, and more)

•

Reporting data for each employer based on your unique employee base

•

No individual annual audit or individual Form 5500 filing

•

Potential cost savings through pooled assets compared to operating a single employer plan

•

Dedicated website for adopting employers to gauge plan performance and participant engagement

•

Dedicated participant website with tools and resources designed to help brighten retirement outcomes

Businesses can receive a startup tax credit covering 100% plan setup Often small businesses shy away from offering their employees a 401(k) plan under the fear of the costs the business is not willing to absorb. Employers who sponsor a 401(k) plan - particularly small and mid-sized businesses - may be eligible for valuable federal tax credits designed to significantly offset the cost of offering retirement benefits. Businesses with up to 100 employees can receive a startup tax credit covering 100% of eligible plan setup and administrative costs, up to $5,000 annually for the first three years. In addition, employers that include automatic enrollment may qualify for an extra $500 per year for three years. These incentives make launching a new retirement

plan more affordable than ever. Even more impactful, recent legislation introduced a new employer contribution tax credit, allowing eligible businesses to claim a credit of up to $1,000 per employee per year for contributions such as matching or profit sharing. This credit is available for up to five years, starting at 100% in the first two years and gradually phasing down. When combined, these credits can substantially reduce, or even fully offset, the cost of establishing and funding a 401(k) plan, creating a powerful opportunity for employers to enhance employee benefits while lowering their tax burden.

NEW MEMBERS last mile. Not generic HR. Not a payroll shop with a delivery vertical. How we treat our clients We are a small firm on purpose. You get people who know your name, your contract and your drivers, not a ticket number in a queue. When you call, someone who already understands your operation picks up, any day and any hour. No two operations are run the same way, so we do not force a standard package onto yours. We build the engagement around how you want to work, take on the pieces you want handed off, and revisit the arrangement as your business changes. If something you need is not on our list, ask us anyway. Industry expertise Margins in last-mile delivery are narrow. Every dollar of non-core overhead comes straight out of the owner’s take. Every one of our services is delivered from our US based office by our own people, never an offshore vendor. We think of ourselves as margin protectors. We know what a contract renewal looks like, how a settlement statement reconciles, what a BWC auditor asks for, and where contractors most often lose money without noticing.

ACTION Flashback!

Dueber Hampden factory combined the Dueber Watch Case Company (founded by John C. Dueber in 1864 in Cincinnati/ Newport, KY) and the Hampden Watch Company (founded in 1877 in Springfield, Massachusetts). John Dueber acquired a controlling interest in Hampden in 1888 and moved both operations to Canton. The 20-acre lot along Dueber Avenue SW between Tuscarawas Street and Sixth Street SW consisted of two massive, red-brick factory buildings. By 1890, the company was producing 600 watches a day, had 1,000 employees, and possessed net assets of $2,600,000. Each watch case was made of 57 pieces using 14-karat-gold cases and 17 jewel movements. Becoming one of the world’s largest watch producers, growing to employ over 2,300 workers at its peak. After facing post-WWI economic declines, bankruptcy, and receivership in 1927, the company’s factory machinery, equipment, and key engineers were purchased by the Soviet Union’s Amtorg Trading Corporation in 1929–1930. Eventually shipping the company to Moscow. The original Canton factory buildings stood until the mid-1960s, when they were torn down to make way for Interstate 77.
