Beyond the Bell Welcome!

Cannon School strives to provide quality after-school Beyond the Bell (BTB) programming classes for our JrK through 12th grade students throughout the school year. We also provide private music lessons for our K through 12th grade students to help with introducing them to an instrument or to help with added instruction. We are excited to offer our BTB programs in the 2023-24 school year and hope your child(ren) will join us for another exciting year of enrichment offerings!

Programs FAQS Q: When and how can I sign up for BTB classes?

A: You can sign up anytime during the sign-up period: November 1324. Additionally, we accept late registrations before week 2 of a session if the class has open spots. Please note that class fees will not be prorated.

We encourage online registration as they have a date and time stamp on them which is useful for popular classes. Please see the link on the Beyond the Bell page at www.cannonschool.org or complete the registration form at the back of this booklet and return to the Enrichment Office.

Q: What if I want to cancel or change a class in the middle of a session?

A: If your child is unhappy with his/her choice or their schedule has changed, you may cancel a class after the first week. Once the student has attended the second class, we are unable to cancel billing and full payment is required. Please note that you will be billed for the one class attended at the per-class cost.

Q: What are my payment options?

A: You can pay by check, cash, money order, or have the full amount billed to your student account. Payments are due with your registration.

Q. How many students are accepted in each BTB class?

A. Each class has its own minimum and maximum number of students.

Classes that do not reach the minimum number required will be canceled and no charges will be applied. Classes will close once the maximum number has been reached, so early registration is recommended.

Session 2 (by day of week) Monday A-Zebra Letter Art NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art Letters have never been so much fun! Each week students will be presented with a new letter and animal to create a beautiful work of art based on that animal. They will also learn a jingle to help them remember their letter and sounds to help incorporate their letter into their animal drawing and crafts.

Grades Day Time C ost JrK - K Mondays 3:00 – 4:00 $20/class; $140 total Art Expressions Offered by: Teresa Schmitt Do you have an inspiring young artist? If so, we have a great class for you! Students will join Mrs. Scmitt, Cannon teacher, to create and draw with pencils99, watercolor, decoupage, acrylics on canvas, and wood using various techniques. All supplies included.

Centered Cougars: Yoga Offered by: Angela Hernandez Students will take part in discovering the many parts of yoga with the guidance of their certified yoga instructor. Together, these cougars will play yoga games, take part in mindful moments, learn about the importance of breath, and have fun while learning about the postures and limbs of yoga. We will practice techniques that help regulate emotions and assist us when we experience stress or anxiety. Students are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat, which can be left on the first day of class.

Tuesday Artful Adventures Offered by: Christiana Holyer Come try your hand at art! Students will have the opportunity to complete a fun art project each week using a variety of artistic media (painting, paper, clay, pencils, etc..). They will also have time to work on art of their own choosing.

All in all, letting your inner artist play a little is a great way to spend the afternoon during the darker days of winter!

Grades Day Time C ost 1-4 Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 $20/class; $200 total Dance / Cheer Offered by: Leaps & Bounds Dance Kidz Students will leap into a world of Dance, Cheer, and creative movement. Take a journey through performing arts while learning various dance genres & techniques along with cheer basics, jumps, chants and more in a fun-filled, innovative, and encouraging environment. Students will showcase their new skills in an end of session performance TBA. Grades Day Time C ost K–3 Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 $16/class; $160 total

Lego: Build & Play NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Allison Landino Let’s build! This class will center around the student’s natural desire to build & create new things. Let’s build a city! Let’s build a fort! Students will be able to work in pairs or create their own individual Lego project. The sky will be the limit in this amazing Lego building class.

Wednesday Fun with Fables NEW PROGRAM Offered by: ACTivate Community through Theatre A creative dramatics class using music, movement, and storytelling. Each class will use one of Aesop’s fables to act out. Minimal costume accessories and half masks will be used or made during class. Highlights of the semester will be presented at the last class.

Jr. Candy Makers!

NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art Does your student love, not just eating, but making yummy treats? There is a good chance they would have the sweetest time in Jr. Candy Makers!

Each week students will work with their classmates to create super yummy treats to take home with them to share.

Grades Day Time C ost 1-3 Wednesdays 3:00-4:00 $20/class; $200 total Lacrosse Skills - Coed Offered by: Brittany Pasut, Alison Landino & Jeremy Mattsson This class is taught by coaches of Cannon’s boys and girls lacrosse programs. Participants learn the fundamentals of catching, throwing, cradling, and shooting through a variety of drills and activities, while focusing on teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment. Sticks and mouth guards are encouraged, but not required. Simulated games will introduce field positions, offensive and defensive strategies, and allow students to experience the game first-hand. Sticks and mouth guards are encouraged for students in grades 1-3, but not required. Mouth guards and goggles (for girls) are required for students grades 4-6. Students will be divided by age & skill development.

Clay Creations Offered by: Krista Johns In this class students will create decorative and functional works of art, using a variety of hand-built clay techniques and glazes to finish their one-of-a-kind pieces! These works of art are perfect to keep or to give away to family & friends.

Crazy Fun Letters, Numbers, and Colors NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art Do arts & crafts, baking, and sing-along sound fun? Then they are going to have a blast in ‘Crazy Fun Letters, Numbers, and Colors’. In this class, students will be presented with super fun activities where they get to create beautiful works of art based on their letters, numbers, and colors, as well as learn a few sing-along songs, while making edible treats.

TaeKwonDo Offered by: Concord TaeKwonDo TaeKwonDo is a life-long form of exercise and self-defense. Students are taught the basics of TaeKwonDo, including forms and sparring techniques.

Students of all levels are welcome.

Chess 101 and 102 Offered by: Dominique Myers Our chess curriculum addresses various skill levels (beginner, experienced, advanced) and is taught by a U.S. Chess Federation rated and certified coach. This program has launched players who compete at the local, state, and national levels while enjoying the art and science of chess! Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized as a tool for learning. Students will be assigned based on their experience/skill level: Chess 101 is perfect for those new to the game of chess; Chess 102 develops tactical and positional skills.

Acting is Believing NEW PROGRAM Offered by: ACTivate Community through Theatre If you believe it, your audience will believe you. Ensemble building, vocal, movement, pantomime, storytelling and improvisation skills are taught in this class using props and costume accessories. Highlights of the semester will be presented on the last day of class.

Improv Comedy ‘An LOL Experience’ NEW PROGRAM Offered by: ACTivate Community through Theatre Create a trunkful of characters in this fast-paced short form improvisation class. This a class for students who love to act ‘on the spot’ and for those who want to learn the skills of quick thinking as an actor. This is a great skill for life. Private Music Lessons Cannon School is pleased to offer private music instruction to our Cannon students. Registration is only available online at the Beyond the Bell page; please see the Music Registration link on the Cannon website.

Cost: $30 per 30-minute private lesson (Student strings instructor is $25 per 30-minute private lesson.)

Private music lessons are charged to the student’s account per 10-week session. Please note that because of “no lesson” days, sessions vary from 6 to 10 lessons.
