Cannon School strives to provide quality after-school Beyond-the-Bell (BTB) programming: classes for our JrK through 8th grade students and private music lessons for our Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Program FAQS
Q: When and how can I sign up for BTB classes?
A: You can sign up anytime during the sign-up period February 20 –March 3. Additionally, we accept late registrations before week 2 of a session if the class has open spots. Please note that class fees will not be prorated. To register, submit the completed registration form on the back of this brochure to the Enrichment Office or go to: https://www.cannonschool.org/cannon-life/beyond-the-bellenrichment-program the BTB page to register online.
Q: What if I want to cancel or change a class in the middle of a session?
A: If your child is unhappy with his/her choice or their schedule has changed, you may cancel a class after the first week. Once the student has attended the second class, we are unable to cancel billing and full payment is required. Please note that you will be billed for the one class attended at the per-class cost.
Q: How do I pay?
A: You can pay by check, cash, money order, or have the full amount billed to your student account. Payments are due with your registration.
Q. How many students are accepted in each BTB class?
A. Each class has its own minimum and maximum number of students. Classes that do not reach the minimum number required will be canceled and no charges will be applied. Classes will close once the maximum number has been reached, so early registration is recommended.
Monday
Lego®: Amusement Park Mania
Offered by: Bricks 4 Kidz
Get your ticket to build your very own amusement park! Students will build a new ride each week, learn how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then they will take what they have learned to create and design their own thrills and challenges. Battery operated, motorized and 3D LEGO® models maximize the action and the fun!

Nature Games
Offered by: Kelli Waller
This Beyond the Bell nature class will provide students with an opportunity to explore the wilderness. Students will have fun exploring plant life, observing animals, discovering insect habitats, and more! We will learn how to use the natural habitat of the woods to create fun and exciting games. Activities include creating crafts such as bird feeders and picture frames, painting with sticks and leaves, going on scavenger hunts, and playing nature related cooperative & competitive games.

The Fitness Club
Offered by: Teresa Schmitt
This is the perfect class for students who love to stay fit and/or crosstrain for their sport out-of-season. Students will do routine combinataions of dynamic streching, yoga, crossfit for kids. Students will learn life-long lessons for staying fit and staying healthy. Let’s stretch!

Drama Kids

Children are natural-born performers! Drama Kids uses this dramatic excitement to build self-confidence, creativity, and speaking/communication skills. Parents are invited to attend an end of the year presentation – TBA * Students must have been in Session 2 for this BTB Class.

Explorer Yaks
Offered by: Leigh Northrup
Rising 5th & 6th grade students will have the opportunity to experience the world of competitive robotics. Students will learn the basic programming, building skills, and mission strategy. This BTB program will focus on teamwork and what it takes to be a part of the robotics program later in Middle School.

Let Me Run

Are you a 3rd-8th grade boy who loves to run? Every season, Let Me Run provides boys the opportunity to nurture healthy friendships, build positive habits, gain confidence, identify values, set goals, uncover potential, and experience the satisfaction of a life-long journey to become their best selves! This BTB class will meet each Tuesday & Thursday.

For the Love of Legos

Offered by: Judy Killam
Calling all Lego Lovers & Creators! In this class, students will create, build, and have fun with Legos. Students will be engaged in different activities each week using Legos while playing with their friends. Why Legos? Playing with Legos is good for the brain! It’s just as important for young students to exercise their brain as it is to get physical exercise for proper development. Legos help provide a way to master many other kinds of emerging skills, such as problem solving, spatial awareness, and just having fun building with friends! Come build & play with us this spring.

Super Sports Sampler
Offered by: Kelli Waller
Run and jump, catch and throw, swing, and shoot – campers will do it all as they learn and play a variety of games from outdoor games to kickball to basketball. Rules, fundamentals, and plenty of friendly age-appropriate competition will be included.

Wednesday
Dance/Cheer
Offered by: Leaps & Bounds Dance Kidz
Students will leap into the world of dance, cheer and creative movement when participating with this program. Students learn various dance styles & techniques such as Hip Hop & Jazz styles, along with basic cheer jumps, chants and more.

TaeKwonDo
Offered by: Concord TaeKwonDo
TaeKwonDo is a life-long form of exercise and self-defense. Students are taught the basics of TaeKwonDo, including forms and sparring techniques. Students of all levels are welcome.

Drama Kids

Cougars on Canvas
Offered by: Krista Johns
In this class, students will learn a variety of acrylic techniques to create one-of-a-kind canvas paintings. Students will learn how to use reference photos to paint realistic images, ways to use a palette knife to create texture, paint pouring, washes, mixed media, and more! No Class on April 13
Fun Adventures with American Girl Doll
Offered by: Judy Killam
This class is all about the American Girl Doll experience. In this class, students will enjoy learning about American Girl Dolls and having fun while reading some American Girl Doll books. We will participate in fun activities with their dolls, dressing them up, taking them outside for for adventures, making sleeping bags, headbands, make mini lava lamps for their doll, have a slumber party and have an amazing time at the dance party. Girls must bring their own doll(s) to each class and any accessories they might want to carry along. Come join the fun!

Venture into Robotics with VEX
Offered by: Mush Hughes
Current 6th-9th graders will have the chance to explore competitive robotics building, coding, and piloting. Students will learn how to design, construct, and program a robot using the VEX robotics system. Students will work together to learn & expand on their teamwork, engineering, design, and coding skills. Students do not need previous experience with robotics or coding to have a fun, successful time!

Crazy Running
Offered by: Crazy Running of Lake Norman
Crazy Running introduces running to younger students through fun and ageappropriate games and other activities. Your young runner will devlope life-long skills while having fun with friends. Students will learn form and other running techniques, it’s exercise combined with fun!

Chess 101 and 102
Offered by: Dominique Myers
Our chess curriculum embraces various skill levels (beginner, experienced, and advanced) and is taught by a U.S. Chess Federation-rated and certified coach. Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized as a tool for learning. Students will be assigned based on their experience/skill level: Chess 101 is perfect for those new to the game of chess; Chess 102 develops tactical and positional skills.

Jewelry Making & Crafty Things
Offered by: Kaitlin Bumgarner
This class will explore different media and techniques for creating beautiful handmade jewelery. We will create friendship bracelets, glass-bead jewelry, clay pendants, and more – and, just in time for the gift giving season!

3D Design and Printing
Offered by: Code Ninjas Concord
Calling all artists, designers, and creators! Learn 3D modeling skills using Tinkercad Software and watch your builds come to life on the Cannon School 3D printers. This class will be led by some of our own Cannon students, with the guidance of Code Ninjas of Concord. By the end of the course, students will start thinking by using skillsets in geometry & math

Parents are encouraged to register online for BTB classes for each session. Online registrations have a date and time stamp on them which is useful for popular classes. Please see the link on the Beyond the Bell page at www.cannonschool.org.
Private Music Lessons
Cannon School is pleased to offer private music instruction to our Cannon students. Registration is only available online at the Beyond the Bell page; please see the Music Registration link on the Cannon website.

Cost: $30 per 30-minute private lesson
(Student strings instruction is $25 per 30-minute private lesson.)
Private music lessons are charged to the student’s account per BTB session. Please note that because of “no lesson” days, sessions vary from 7 to 10 lessons.
