Beyond the Bell Welcome!

Cannon School strives to provide quality after-school Beyond-the-Bell (BTB) programming classes for our JrK through 8th grade students and private music lessons for our Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Program FAQS Q: When and how can I sign up for BTB classes?

A: You can sign up anytime during the sign-up period February 19 – March 1. Additionally, we accept late registrations before week 2 of a session if the class has open spots. Please note that class fees will not be prorated. To register, submit the completed registration form on the back of this brochure to the Enrichment Office or go to the BTB page to register online: https://www.cannonschool.org/cannon-life/beyondthe-bell-enrichment-program Q: What if I want to cancel or change a class in the middle of a session?

A: If your child is unhappy with his/her choice or their schedule has changed, you may cancel a class after the first week. Once the student has attended the second class, we are unable to cancel billing and full payment is required. Please note that you will be billed for the one class attended at the per-class cost.

Q: How do I pay?

A: You can pay by check, cash, money order, or have the full amount billed to your student account. Payments are due with your registration.

Q. How many students are accepted in each BTB class?

A. Each class has its own minimum and maximum number of students.

Classes that do not reach the minimum number required will be canceled and no charges will be applied. Classes will close once the maximum number has been reached, so early registration is recommended.

Session 3 (by day of week) Monday Drawing Animals from the Sea NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art Students will have a blast as they dive into the world of everything under the sea! Each week, students will learn how to draw a new sea animal, such as a sea turtles, a sharks, penguins, sea horses, and so much more!

Students in this program will develop new drawing skills, have a better knowledge of different sea creatures, and create many beautiful works of art to show off to their friends & family. Let’s draw a Sea Monster together!

Grades Day Time C ost JrK - 1 Mondays 3:00 – 4:00 $20/class; $180 total Artful Adventures Offered by: Christiana Holyer Come try your hand at art! Students will have the opportunity to complete a fun art project each week using a variety of artistic media (painting, paper, clay, pencils, etc..). They will also have time to work on art of their own choosing. All in all, letting your inner artist play a little is a great way to spend the afternoon during the darker days of winter!

Grades Day Time C ost 1-4 Mondays 3:00-4:00 $20/class; $180 total 3 vs. 3 Basketball Skills NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Kelli Waller This 3 vs. 3 basketball program will be structured like a mini league.

We will run 2-3 week tournaments over the 10 weeks of classes. We will spend 15-20 minutes each day on skill devlopment and then play games for the remainder of the time. We will empasize the importance of spacing, movement , and decision making. With playing 3 vs. 3 basketball, each player is involved with every offensive & defensive series. Players will be asked to focus on screening, cutting, moving without the ball, plus learn offensive and defensive concepts. Grow your love of the game with Coach Waller this spring!

Nature Games Offered by: Kelli Waller This Beyond the Bell nature class will provide students with an opportunity to explore the wilderness. Students will have fun exploring plant life, observing animals, discovering insect habitats, and more! We will learn how to use the natural habitat of the woods to create fun and exciting games. Activities include creating crafts such as bird feeders and picture frames, painting with sticks and leaves, going on scavenger hunts, and playing nature related cooperative & competitive games.

For the Love of Legos

Dance/Cheer Offered by: Leaps & Bounds Dance Kidz Students will leap into the world of dance, cheer and creative movement while participating in this program. Students will learn various dance styles & techniques such as Hip Hop & Jazz styles, along with basic cheer jumps, chants and more. Performance on Wednesday, May 17.

Jr. Ice Cream Makers NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art You scream, I scream, we all scream for Ice Cream! As the weather starts to warm up this spring, these treats are sure to cool you down. This Jr. Ice Cream Makers class is sure to be the coolest, and sweetest part, of your student’s day! Students will learn to make 100% real, authentic, homemade ice cream. Each week, students will work with their friends to make a new yummy ice cream flavor. Possible flavors include: Cookies & Cream, Cookie Dough, and so much more. There is nothing better than homemade ice cream on a HOT day!

“The Play’s The Thing” NEW PROGRAM Offered by: ACTivate Community through Theatre A ten minute play will be chossen by the instructor and students to rehearse and perform for parents & friends at the end of the session. Students will work on improving their vocal skills, stage movement, and character development as well as creating a working ensemble.

Offered by: Judy Killam Calling all Lego Lovers & Creators! In this class, students will create, build, and have fun with Legos. Why Legos? Playing with Legos is good for the brain! It’s just as important for young students to exercise their brain as it is to get physical exercise for proper development. Legos help provide a way to master many other kinds of emerging skills, such as problem solving, spatial awareness, and just having fun building with friends! Come build & play with us this spring.

Thursday TaeKwonDo Offered by: Concord TaeKwonDo TaeKwonDo is a life-long form of exercise and self-defense. Students are taught the basics of TaeKwonDo, including forms and sparring techniques.

Students of all levels are welcome.

Centered Cougars: Yoga Offered by: Angela Hernandez In this class, students will take part in discovering the many parts of yoga.

Together, we will play yoga games, take part in mindful moments, learn about the importance of breath, and have fun while learning about the postures and limbs of yoga. We will practice techniques that help regulate emotions and assist us when we experience stress or anxiety. Students are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat, which can be left on the first day of class.

Grades Day Time C ost 2-5 Thursdays 3:00-4:00 $16/class; $144 total Improv Comedy NEW PROGRAM Offered by: ACTivate Community through Theatre What is comedy? What makes us laugh? In this class, students will learn the basic skills of improvisation and character creations. We will use ‘red noses’, hats, and costume pieces to create comedy in improvised scenes.

Improvisation is a great life skill as it helps to improve listening, cooperation, concentration, creativity and more.

Friday Crazy Running Offered by: Crazy Running of Lake Norman Crazy Running introduces running to younger students through fun and ageappropriate games and other activities. Your young runner will devlope lifelong skills while having fun with friends. Students will learn form and other running techniques, it’s exercise combined with fun!

Grades Day Time C ost K-3 Fridays 3:00 – 4:00 $16/class; $80 total Pokemon Draw and Explore NEW PROGRAM Offered by: Smart Educational Art Does your student love everything to do with Pokemon? Do they love to draw? Then this is the class for them! In Pokemon Draw and Explore, students will learn how to draw a new pokemon character each week as well as partake in super fun pokemon activities with their friends.

When we finish our last class, students will be encouraged to bring their pokemon masterpieces home to share with family and friends. “Gotta draw them all!”

Chess 101 and 102 Offered by: Dominique Myers Our chess curriculum embraces various skill levels (beginner, experienced, and advanced) and is taught by a U.S. Chess Federationrated and certified coach. Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized as a tool for learning. Students will be assigned based on their experience/skill level: Chess 101 is perfect for those new to the game of chess; Chess 102 develops tactical and positional skills.

Private Music Lessons Cannon School is pleased to offer private music instruction to our Cannon students. Registration is only available online at the Beyond the Bell page; please see the Music Registration link on the Cannon website.

Where: Cannon’s Private Music Studio, Strings Rooms, or Band Room Cost: $30 per 30-minute private lesson (Student strings instruction is $25 per 30-minute private lesson.)

Private music lessons are charged to the student’s account per BTB session.

Please note that because of “no lesson” days, sessions vary from 5 to 10 lessons.
