From our Safety Director Matt Gifford Keep Calm & Finish Strong With the finish line in sight for 2022 we must remain focused! Seasons are changing and we are back to colder mornings. The approaching holidays can create distractions, so it is even more important to stay focused on the task at hand. Success in our own safety is about being present, not letting distractions consume us and making sure we are doing everything we can

to mitigate risk of injury. We must ask ourselves what is important each day and plan out how we will tackle each task. Whether the goal is installing multiple runs of pipe or picking a cooling tower, we all want to leave our job the way we came in. We all want to enjoy the holidays with our loved ones, family, friends, pets and all the reasons why

suicide awareness The Facts The Construction industry has the second highest rate of suicide in the United States at 53.3 per 100,000 workers according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). In the U.S. there are approximately 123 suicides per day that breaks down to 1 death every 12 minutes.

It may be nothing, and there is no way to know without asking. You cannot plant the idea of suicide into someone’s head – but you can potentially stop them by asking about it. You don’t have to be a mental health worker to help someone who is struggling.

If a coworker, friend or family member talks about hurting themselves or wanting to die, take the information seriously.

Reach out. Ask if they the would like to talk. Listen. Suggest the 1-800-273 TALK (8255) or the TEXT HELLO to 741741 if they need someone to talk to. Follow up.

IT UPDATE

billings module application The billings module application helps to track and stay on top of each month’s billings. It attempts to reduce e-mail traffic between project managers and accountants as well as provide a simple platform to upload pencil requisitions, change orders, and stored material photos.

The project managers and accountants have their own slightly different overview of jobs they are responsible for. The overview contains relevant contract information with popups to view a job’s retainage and CEC info.

Files can be uploaded and downloaded from within the app. The goal of the app is to organize the relevant information needed for project managers to complete their pencil requisitions and give accountants a way to set due dates and see any outstanding billings. The future plan for the app is to have project managers be able to enter their pencil requisitions within the app instead of on a pdf file. The app is currently available to all PMs and located on the CMiC landing page.

farewell watertown, hello boston!

After over 15 years, the Plumbing Museum has closed in Watertown, but the Museum still lives on! We will miss this beloved space that has drawn thousands of curious visitors over the years but look forward to the next chapters of the collection. A small curation of the artifacts will be on display at our fabrication shop, The FID, in the Seaport.

Other items are going on loan to the Waterworks Museum in Chestnut Hill, MA and to The Breakers Mansion in Newport, RI. More information to come!

The museum legacy will continue to live on through the Artist in Residency program that began in 2016, connecting artists with industrial equipment and technology to create new works. Nine artists completed the program to date that concluded with unique exhibitions of their art, housed in Watertown. Next year the program will be hosted at the FID, where artists will continue to push the boundaries of art and technology to create new works inspired by industry and innovation.

Visit a museum At the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, visitors can enjoy outdoor contemporary sculpture and installations as well as other programs, including snowshoe tours, yoga sessions, birding tours, curator conversations, and screenings.

Go leaf peeping The Old Stone Church is a beautiful landmark located at the banks of the Wachusett Reservoir. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy peak foliage that frames this historic landmark.

The Wayside Grist Mill is a terrific photo op, where many choose to take family photos and wedding photos. The picturesque grounds are lovely to walk around any time of year.

patriot prime rib sliders Ingredients Beef: 2-6 lb cradled rib roast 1 cup softened butter 2 tbsp rosemary (chopped) 2 tbsp thyme (chopped) 2 tbsp salt 1 tbsp pepper 7 cloves of garlic cut into pieces Au Jus: 2 tbsp flour 2 cups beef broth Creamy Horseradish Sauce: 1 cup drained horseradish 1/2 cup sour cream 1/2 cup mayonnaise 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice 1 tsp kosher salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce A few drops of Tobasco sauce

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 500O F.

7. Pull from the oven once the initial temperature hits 130O and rest for a few more minutes for a mediumrare cook.

2. Prepare butter herb spread.

8. Pour pan drippings into sauce pan over medium heat.

3. Pierce the roast with knife and insert garlic throughout.

9. Add 2 tbsp flour and whisk until smooth.

4. Cover the roast with the butter herb spread.

10. Add 2 cups of beef stock and stir until the Au Jus reaches boil.

5. Bake for 6 minutes/pound.

6. Turn the oven off and let the roast rest for 2 hours.

To maximize the experience, put creamy horseradish sauce on the sandwich and dip into the Au Jus. Enjoy!

sweet potato chili Ingredients 1 lb ground meat (any kind) 1 medium onion, chopped 2 bell peppers, chopped 1 jalapeño, chopped (deseed if you don’t like spice) 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 large sweet potato, cubed 2 1/2 tbsp chili powder 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp ground black pepper Chili flakes (to taste) 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes 1 cup tomato sauce 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Directions 1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over med-high heat. Add ground meat and cook until browned (about 3-4 mins).

2. Add in onions and cook for 3 more minutes.

3. Add in peppers, jalapeño and garlic and cook for another 2 mins.

4. Add in sweet potato, spices, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and beans and bring mix to a boil. If mixture is too thick add in 1/2-1 cup water or broth, which is my choice.

5. Once boiling lower heat to a simmer and cook for about 30-40 minutes uncovered or until desired consistency is reached. * If using an Instapot or slow cooker, the longer the better (use the simmer function and follow same directions set to slow cook and cook for 3-5 hours)! Add more salt to taste or spices and top with your favorite toppings.

Some of mine are cilantro, sour cream and of course tortilla chips!
