FIBRE TERMINATION SERVICE Qualified and speedy service The nature of the broadcast market often means customer requirements are urgent and so Canford’s fibre service was set-up to offer a short lead-time for the termination of broadcast connectors: LEMO SMPTE and Neutrik opticalCON. Fibre termination is delicate, precision work. Canford staff complete specialist certified training programmes before they can produce the mission critical cables which are often deployed at broadcast studios, premier football grounds and other outside broadcast venues.

Test certificates are available if required, and will certify curvature radius, linear and angular offset, spherical fibre height along with a 3D illustration of the ferrule profile.

NEW SMPTE PRE-TERMINATED CABLES Canford now offers a variety of SMPTE fibre cables including Furukawa, Draka, Belden OCC and Percon that are kept in stock to ensure quick turn-around times on the cable assemblies. Cables can be terminated to customers’ specification using LEMO connectors as well as LCs, SCs and STs. Pre-terminated cables can be used in conjunction with the Canford Hybrid Fibre Field Termination Box.

CANFORD OPTICALCON BREAKOUT BOXES Where multi-way fibre cables fitted with Neutrik opticalCON Dual or opticalCON Quad connectors are used to provide a point-to-point link, these break-out boxes split the two or four channels to a variety of other formats including; Duplex LC, SC and ST connectors, depending on the model. The connectors are mounted in a rugged, extruded enclosure, suitable for use in broadcasting and live-event environments. Both multi-mode and single-mode types are offered. These designs are assembled to order, in short time scales, using stocked modules. Alternative configurations such as mixed LC, SC and ST connections can also be accommodated.

SENKO FIBRE CONNECTOR CLEANERS Smart series SENKO Smart Cleaners have been specifically designed to allow cleaning of fibre connections that reside in a bulkheads, adapters or faceplates without the need to remove the connector. Simply pushing the cleaner into the bulkhead, adapter or faceplate until the unit ‘clicks’ will clean the face with a ‘twist and wipe’ motion. Both re-usable and disposable alternatives are offered.

The re-usable cleaner allows more than 750 cleanings per cartridge and, once spent, the cartridge can then be replaced. Replacement cartridges are offered in packs of three; 50-1503 for LC, MU or 50-1505 for SC, FC,ST, E-2000.

The disposable cleaners offer in excess of 400 cleanings for the SC/FC, MU/LC and the cassette cleaner types. The MPO/MTP types offer more than 600 cleanings.

CANFORD FIBRE FIELD TERMINATION RACKMOUNT CASE Designed to facilitate a fast, easy and effective solution for installing hybrid fibre connectors on site and eliminates the need for pre-terminated cable assemblies.

The boxes come complete with up to 8 x Lemo 3K.93C EDW or FMW cable assemblies pre-fitted in either a flat or angled 2U front panel.

The SMPTE cable enters the chassis via rear cable glands and the strain relief is secured to the clamping post. The electrical cables are then terminated directly to the AMP connector provided on the internal bulkhead. The fibre cables terminate directly to the SC coupler on the same bulkhead using SENKO XP Fit Plus connectors or alternatively via SC tails which are spliced to the incoming fibre using the internal splice tray.

This system not only provides improved protection to both the electrical and fibre connections which are secured within the case but also allows for quick and easy replacement/repair of any failed SMPTE connectors.

NEW CANFORD 4 WAY SMPTE 311 BREAKOUT ENCLOSURE These wall/ceiling mountable enclosures will be manufactured to accept either 2, 4 or 6 incoming SMPTE 311M cables and are designed to enable the respective fibre and electrical core to be broken out to LC (or SC) bulkheads and 6 pin MateN-Lok panel connectors. Similar to our range of rack mountable field termination boxes they offer not only the possibility of a “plug and play� approach but also simplify the process of on-site installation and maintenance. They are particularly useful in installations where depth is an issue as the SMPTE cable can be brought away from the rear of the panel then terminated elsewhere in a safe and secure manner. The enclosures are also provided with a shroud to offer additional protection against accidental damage to the breakout connections.

The enclosures come supplied with the required fibre patch cords, electrical crimp contacts and splice protector sleeves to help facilitate easy installation.

PROTOTYPE CANFORD ANGLED 12 WAY OPTICALCON DUO SMPTE FIELD TERMINATION BOX BLACK These 1U rack enclosures will be manufactured to accept either 8 or 12 opticalCON connectors and are designed to facilitate easy on site termination. The range will be fitted with Neutrik NO2-4DW-1A SMPTE DUO connectors and blue singlemode flanges. The electrical contacts on the connectors will be terminated to 6 pin Mate-N-Lok male panel connectors which in turn terminates to a the female bulkhead connector fitted within the enclosure. A 24 way splice tray and 2 cable management spools are also provided within the case. During installation the SMPTE 311M cable is brought into the enclosure and the electrical conductors are fitted with the supplied crimp contacts before being inserted into the female MateN-Lok bulkhead connector. The fibre cores are routed via the cable management spools to the splice tray and spliced to the provided LC patch cords before connecting to the rear of the DUO connector. The enclosure will come supplied with all of the required components to facilitate easy installation.

CANFORD XLR TERMINATION PANELS Standard Layouts A range of audio termination panels supplied fully populated with Neutrik ‘D’ series XLR connectors. CANFORD F-TYPE TERMINATION PANELS A range of termination panels supplied fully-populated with double-sided F-type female connectors. Typically used for RF distribution, CATV and CCTV. Two types are available as standard to suit different earthing requirements.

Standard types have connectors fitted directly into the panel so are nominally insulated from the panel by the powder coating, but they cannot be classed as either insulated or earthed. The fully-earthed types have an exposed metal area on the rear of the panel under each star washer and mounting nut, giving a guaranteed earth connection between each connector and the panel. They are also fitted with an earthing stud for common connection to a technical earthing point. Connectors fitted with fully insulating washers may also be supplied to special order.

CANFORD MUSA 3G HD-SDI PATCH PANELS The Canford MUSA is optimised for 3G HD-SDI and exceed the requirements of SMPTE292M and SMPTE424M. 466 SERIES IP66 Wall Outdoor Cabinets Designed for use in outdoor open areas subject to the full force of the elements or harsh internal environments such as chemical plants or marine applications. Manufactured to offer sealing to IP66, the 466 series are available in three heights, two widths, three depths and three finishes.

All units have a full steel, lockable front door offering both 130 degree opening and left or right operation. Rack profiles are recessed 50mm or 100mm from the front depending on the model. Cable access is available on the base of the cabinets and these are supplied complete with one cover plate and polyethylene gasket to maintain IP66 sealing.

CAT5E-F-J CATEGORY 5E DATA CABLE Stranded conductor, screened - Multi-circuit, studio and touring grades Multi-circuit deployable Cat5E cables, for both studio and touring/OB applications, based on Canford’s CAT5E-F screened flexible cable.

The ‘Touring’ version uses the standard CAT5E-F 6.2mm diameter flexible cable, with colour coded and numbered individual jackets. The overall jacket has a tough layer of PUR (polyurethane) for abrasion resistance. Canford uses PUR on many cable designs to provide excellent wearing characteristics in the harsher environment of outside broadcast and touring applications.

Wire insulation is polypropylene, which shrinks back minimally during soldering (considerably less than PVC or polyethylene). The overall jacket is bonded to the screen tape so that one stripping action removes jacket and screen, leaving the signal wires and earth wire free for further processing. RDL EZ SERIES MICROPHONE PRE-AMPLIFIERS These provide balanced microphone inputs with XLR connectors to connect to systems which have only line level inputs, such as recorders or computer sound cards. They are suitable for use with both dynamic and condenser microphones, having 24V phantom power available. Gain controls, switched compression and level indication are provided. Single and dual channel models are offered. A range of mounting accessories is available for the Radio Design Labs EZ-Series.

The EZ-Series offers a wide range of stand-alone designs including distribution amplifiers for line level audio, headphones, composite and XGA/XGA video, audio pre-power and mixer amplifiers, AV input selectors and computer video selectors. All models may be connected and operated without the use of tools, using standard cables. They are housed in enclosures with the same height, with widths in increments of one sixth of a rack-width, so they may be mounted singly or in multiples in a range of accessory mounts. Audio and video are switched using solid-state circuitry to avoid degradation due to dirty switches; critical connectors are gold-plated for reliable connections. EMO POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM A range of power distribution panels for 19” rack mounting. Suitable for both fixed and mobile installations. The system allows all rack mounted equipment to be fitted with a standard BS1363 13A, IEC 10 amp or Schuko connector, so that installation and removal of equipment is easy and safe. The availability of front mounted sockets allows standard connectors also to be used on portable external equipment. In installations where a large number of outlets are required, the initial unit can supply power to slave units through the outlets on its rear panel. If a detachable power input lead is required, the C600 series panels offer this facility via BS EN 60309-2:1922 connectors (formerly known as BS4343, or IEC309 connectors!).

EMO AC MAINS POWER SWITCHING SYSTEM CM6 Master Station

This has a six-digit keypad and two, sequenced, mains outlets - a ten amp feed for the audio mixer and ancillary equipment and a 32 amp feed for the first bank of amplifiers. On entry of the correct security code, the 10A feed is switched on, followed by the 32A feed. If a number of high-power amplifiers are to be switched on, the number of 32A feeds can be increased by adding CS6 slaves (one for each additional 32A outlet required) up to a maximum of eight. Including the Master Station, this gives a total of nine 32A and one 10A switched outlets.

CS6 Slave Switcher This is triggered by a 12V DC control voltage from a CM6 Master Station. The CM6 supplies separate control voltages to each CS6 slave in sequence. While voltage is present, the slave units will remain switched on. Removing the voltage (during the power down sequence) will cause them to switch off. In the event of the CM6 master losing mains power, the system automatically defaults to ‘Off’.

EMO MICROPHONE SPLITTERS These professional quality microphone splitters are available in two formats, either free-standing or panel mounting.

The microphone splitters have three outputs in either format, one direct and two transformer coupled, one of which will pass phantom power to the input. The microphone splitter is fitted with two phase change switches and an earth lift switch; this combination will solve most operational problems. The panel mounting microphone splitter is suitable for permanent installation in OEM equipment, studios, OB vans, mobile sound systems, etc.

EMO RACK LIGHT Constructed to occupy only 1U of rack space, the EMO Rack Light will illuminate the front panels of equipment housed below without diffusing into the surrounding area. The case slides in and out on runners and works on the ‘fridge door’ principle – the light goes out as the case clicks shut. The frame will stay closed even if the rack tips forward; when opened it will stay put at the position set.

The EMO Rack Light incorporates 12 volt festoon lamps which are readily available throughout the world. Two levels of illumination can be selected.
