How do Corals work?

A coral reef is made up of millions of individual polyps. Each polyp contains thousands of microscopic algae cells called zooxanthellate. Zooxanthellae are responsible for producing oxygen and taking carbon dioxide out of the water. In return, the coral receives nourishment and protection from the algae. When the coral is stressed, the algae produce chemicals that make the coral stronger. If the coral becomes sick, the algae will die and the coral will recover.

LPS is short for lipopolysaccharides, which is a type of biofilm bacteria that lives naturally in the ocean. It's a natural product that is added to aquarium water to help stimulate coral growth. When you add LPS to your reef tank, it helps increase coral polyp production, which ultimately increases the number of fish and invertebrates you have in your tank.
