Strategically placed for breaking your journey from the port to your final destination, our stopover campsites are the perfect places to spend a night or two.
Your journey
When travelling to Spain or Portugal you have a choice of a 32 hour ferry directly to northern Spain or a short 90 minute ferry or 30 minute LeShuttle crossing to Calais.
In France few campsites are open in winter so plan your route using our stopover campsites suggestions.
Travelling with pets
Ferries to northern Spain have a few pet-friendly cabins for you and your pet but they need to be booked well in advance. On Dover to Calais ferries pets can stay in your vehicle, or some ships allow pets onboard in pet lounges. On LeShuttle you all stay together in the vehicle which can be a great option for nervous pets.

Why tour in winter?
Chasing the sun during the colder months offers a unique way to experience Europe, with less crowds and milder temperatures to enjoy. Whether you prefer the variety of touring multiple locations or the relaxation of holidaying at a single campsite, winter travel provides a more peaceful and cost effective escape.
Outside of peak season you can enjoy good food and wine at great value and if you visit cities and attractions you can expect a quieter day out than during the peak season. If you choose to stay longer on sites there is also a social aspect of enjoying the company of others, making new friends or meeting up with old ones.
Long Stay Winter Sun hosted holidays
Really get to know an area of Spain on our hosted holidays, which run for 11 or 14 weeks in Spain. The longer you stay, the less you pay per night but the minimum stay is 2 weeks. Explore the local area, do your own thing, or make new friends at our four rallies while enjoying activities with dedicated volunteer hosts - the choice is yours!

Top tips for Europe
Travel with confidence knowing you have the trusted experts behind you. Start your planning with these key tips:
Check your passport and driving licence validity dates. Travel is visa-free for British passport holders for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Get a Toll Tag to avoid stopping at pay booths.
If using gas bottles, consider buying a regulator in case you need a local replacement.
Some of the local facilities may be closed and may operate weekend only opening hours.
Electricity might not be included in the price in winter and may be charged on site.
6 January is a national holiday in Spain and services, shops etc. may be closed except on motorways.
Book early for busy periods like Christmas, Easter, and February.

Whether it’s your first winter touring trip or you’re an experienced winter sun seeker, many members enjoy the company of others on a hosted winter sun holiday - you can choose to spend time at one site or take a tour of all four! With a great value nightly rate, our hosted holiday campsites run from 11 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. We have knowledgeable Caravan and Motorhome Club volunteer hosts on-site who will welcome everyone and make sure you know about all the activities and social events taking place each week - you’re free to join in as much or as little as you like.
