Let Your Ruby Red Slippers Ignite Your Inner Spark.

We all come to a point in life where we may be wandering in our own “Land of Oz,” wearing our ruby red slippers, looking for our own yellow brick road.

That is to say, we are searching for something.

Along the way, we encounter our own cast of shadows, much like Dorothy’s Dark Forest, her wicked witch, the flying monkeys . . . you get the idea. All of these fictional elements represent and contribute to the ups and downs of real life. Feeling danger, a sense of hopelessness and despair are all part of life.

So, the question is, how will you discover your inner Dorothy? Despite your fears and inhibitions, you can still dig deeply and find that inner strength, that bravery, to move forward and find happiness and healthiness, both physically and emotionally.

You have the ability within you to find your own path, to choose the positive people you want to have on that path with you, and allow yourself to be open and trusting as you go down your own yellow brick road. It won’t be easy (life never is), but it can be a positive and wonderful experience.

The secret to success here is figuring out how to look beyond the façade and find the proverbial “man behind the curtain.” That fictional (wo)man is you. Be strong and open the curtain to the real you. The healthy, happy, open-hearted you who only needs to be found. You are in charge of your own destiny – no one else.

Drink Yourself Clean

Emily is a Nutrition and Wellness Coach at Conscious Foodie. She is on a mission to spread the word about natural wellness and health, nutritional whole foods, clean organic living, a sustainable future, self love, gratitude and kindness. When she's not writing you can find her juicing her greens, meditating, walking barefoot, sitting in the sun, drinking peppermint tea, making raw desserts and studying her Masters of Human Nutrition.

These juice recipes serve 2 and take 10 minutes to prepare.

Simply place all ingredients into your juicer and serve chilled. Green juices are my favorite. I avoid juicing a lot of fruit because of its high sugar content. My top tip is to drink your juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. The vitamins and minerals are more easily absorbed on an empty stomach. If you can, drink your juice fresh. Contact with oxygen depletes the nutrients. If you need to store your juice, I would recommend a dark glass airtight container in the fridge.

Shamanism – A system of healing based on spiritual practices present in most indigenous cultures. The shaman acquires knowledge, wisdom and spiritual power from personal helping spirits encountered on journeys into other realities. They return with vital information about healing. Dr. Paula Watkins is a clinical psychologist, meditation expert, and also holds a PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine.

Also a long-time practitioner of yoga and by dr paula meditation, Dr. Watkins watkins has immersed herself in the fields of psychology, neuroscience and contemplative traditions and translates research and wisdom from these traditions into effective strategies for improving wellbeing.

When I sat down to write this, I planned to write about intentions. But instead I found myself deep in grief and thinking a lot about suicide. I will always remember January 2017 for the death, by suicide, of a loved one.

In the wake of this loss, I didn't feel like setting goals or writing about intentions. I turned instead, as I always do in difficult times, to books I love and I found solace in meditating upon the words of philosophers and poets.

I also tried to see the bigger picture,

taking time to contemplate the many others who are suffering just as I am.

Many people have loved or will love someone who chooses to end their life.

As a psychologist, suicide is a topic I've encountered before. But I was shocked to learn that there are over 800,000 suicides worldwide each year. That's more than 2,000 people every single day.

So, I'm writing to those whose loved ones end their own lives. This is my offering. I hope sharing my experience might be of some use to others, that these words might prove a balm to aching hearts. They're only words. But words can heal.

Something feels different about a death by suicide. It arrives with a fierce abruptness, a tearing away.

We'll never know when my beloved cousin Gareth made a choice that would end his life. We are still here.

And we grieve. But mostly I've noticed that we seem to be asking a lot of questions. It's a quirk of our humanity that we like to make sense of things.

We like to understand. So we question not just the pragmatics of when, where, and how—we also question ourselves.

Could I have done more? Could I have done things differently? Such thoughts are a trap because, yes, inevitably, all things could have been done differently. But they weren't. And if these questions haunt us, we can only apologize to those we once held—for the things we did or didn't do that somehow contributed to their pain— and try to let go of the regret.

As I listen to my loved ones try to make sense of this tragedy, I hear some people question his intent. Did he really mean for that to work? Did

Some of us question Gareth as to why? Why? Why? To this unsolvable question the poet Rainer Maria Rilke says, "Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you."

Some of us question the great unknown. Why do some suffer so greatly? Why do some children return to the earth so early, leaving their earthly families with broken hearts?

There are endless questions and far fewer answers. Our brains can't truly comprehend the situation. Our minds wander through grief, anger, sadness, regret, relief, and bewilderment. Our hearts ache. Our eyes tear. And our

Confusion cut his sanity. Clarity and contentment, those things we all seek, would elude. Like many others who suffer severe mental illness, he would seek some peace from his own mind through alcohol and other drugs, which only hurt him and deluded him further.

I cannot pretend that I am without sadness or confusion. But my predominant feeling is one of peace and gratitude. Gareth is somewhere else or nowhere, depending on what you believe. Wherever he is, is not here. He is somewhere else. I choose to believe it's a better place—a union with the vast ocean of consciousness in which he knows for the first time the love that has always surrounded him and always been within him.

When we come to a new and beautiful place, our first instinct is to open our arms and embrace the expanse of it.

So I'm opening my arms and my heart.

Sometimes death is a well-considered, contemplated destination. Sometimes it isn't. As for Gareth, we'll never know.

And, given that it did work, debating whether he meant to die or not is unhelpful. He is gone and his actions are not for us to judge.

Another question, equally fraught: How could he be so selfish? I personally have no sense that Gareth's actions were in any way "selfish," but I understand that others might. I can't know the hell he knew (Gareth

It is no secret that our Gareth suffered. More than any of us could probably ever comprehend. His mind was not always his friend. And not in the way that all of us struggle with negativity and doubt but in a way more disordered and horrific than we could imagine. Life was, at times, a ghastly, wretched prison for him. In the 17 years since Gareth tragically lost his beloved brother in an avalanche, his mind turned on him with increasingly greater force.

For me, this year has begun with a deep journey of letting it all in—letting loss rip the heart open—and then letting it all go. And though this year won't be about temporal goals, I think I've found a motto for 2017: Let go gracefully.

By unhealthy I mean relationships that cause slow destruction and/or hold us back from our true mission in this lifetime.

Sometimes we find ourselves in toxic relationships but fail to take action and do anything about it. Often, this dynamic becomes a pattern and we simply go from one toxic relationship to another, over and over again. In

many cases, the reason we gravitate toward these relationships-- and remain with toxic people for so long— is a lack of self-confidence. The first step toward healing yourself comes through acknowledging the nature of these types of relationships.

When we become our true authentic selves, then external influences can no longer stop us-- after all, no one deserves to be held back by those who are mentally or physically abusive!

Sadly, often based on early life experiences, many of us do not feel worthy. Sometimes we may feel there wasn’t much love then, which makes it even harder to accept it now. Likewise, substance abuse-- our own or that of others-- holds us back in exactly the same way.

Accepting forgiveness, and learning to forgive others, may be one of the most difficult things to master.

Often it’s not in peoples’ nature to automatically forgive and/or accept forgiveness from others who’ve caused them harm. Rather, many are more comfortable-whether through social conditioning or inherent temperament-trying to exact revenge and clinging to old grievances and the negative memory of those who’ve harmed them.

It helps to remember that we all endure disappointment, hardship, and pain in this life. And yes, the scars these hardships leave behind can cause us to become bitter and vengeful.

Forgiveness becomes the beginning of letting go of carrying around such baggage. Think about how much more freely we can all move forward if we’re not lugging fifty pound weights behind us everywhere we go!

Lack of forgiveness can actually hold us back from experiencing a life filled with peace. Forgiveness is the key that helps unlock the gates of our own prison. Once we develop the capability to understand that all of our past is actually by design, we are no longer bound by such restrictions. Instead, we are free… ​ The following are some easy suggestions and solutions to help you live a happier, healthier life: 1. Keep a journal and write down a list of things for which you are grateful every day.

2. Fit a meditation period and daily exercise routine into your life.

3. People pleasing can be exhausting-learn to say no and set healthy boundaries.

4. Make sure you’re always living in the moment; don't look back because nothing good will come of it. Living in the moment is the best way to free yourself of judgment and regrets, and to live the life you’re truly meant to live.

5. Release all guilt and forgive yourself! We all are all human and make mistakes. It’s how we learn and grow. Think of mistakes and missteps as necessary for your spiritual growth.

6. Pay attention to the people with whom you associate and the way you feel around them. If you need to cut your social circle in half, do it.

The idea that a place is sacred often comes from something that has happened at the place, or a religious story about that place.

Indian clubs are hugely beneficial for all fitness levels and are vital for people who like to work out hard and often. (These clubs are a type of exercise equipment used for developing strength, comprised of bowling pin-shaped wooden clubs of varying sizes and weights, which are swung in certain patterns as part of an exercise program.
