A Woman Who Inspires Me

On the occasion of “The International Women’s Day”, I asked my A2 students to think of women they found inspirational and write about one of them. Some wrote about famous women who have changed the world and some chose to write about women they have around, women who have been close to them sometime in their lives and who have influenced and motivated them to be better. Here is a selection of my students’ writings for you!

A woman who inspires me is the Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

When I was travelling in India, we visited her and her congregation. Calcutta is more than poor... it is misery. People die in the street... Mother Teresa and her congregation picked up very poor people from the street and took them to live in the convent. Most of them were very sick and died there a few days later, but she lived with them and for them.

She was very small and barefoot. She lived her life without luxuries and she decided to live to care for the sick.

For me, she was an inspiration and my absolute admiration for her.

A woman who inspires me is Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She taught the world how to help the poor people.

She dedicated all her life to charity and she founded the Missionaries of Charity congregation in India. She wasn’t born in India but she worked there all her life. She was born into a rich family and she had good studies. They gave her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.

I think she is amazing because she dedicated all her life to help the poor, sick, orphaned and dying people. She said “Sometimes we feel that what we do is just a drop in the sea, but the sea would be less if it lacked one drop”.

She inspires me to work with dedication and humility with people in need.

A woman who inspires me is María José. She has been a hardworking woman and she has dedicated her life to help people with employment problems.

She began helping her coworkers and she ended up helping many people with work problems. She has never asked for anything in return. She does it so that work situations are fair.

Now she is retired and continues to help and fight for the welfare of the workers. She helped me once and I admire her very much!

There are a lot of women who inspire me, women who did so much for our freedom in history. But there are women in my life who make me feel proud and happy. For example, my dear friend Tània.

She’s amazing because although she had a hard childhood, she fought to study and learn. She’s a very sensitive and hardworking person. In the past, she suffered the loss of a very important person for her, but she never gave up. She’s an artist, a poet, and she wrote beautiful poems about her loss.

She gave me a wonderful lesson about our vulnerability and about how strong we can be. She really inspires me!
