Dear Residents,
It’s hard to believe October is already here, marking the halfway point of our fall term. This time of year is always exciting, especially with some of my favorite Residence Life programs on the horizon Our annual pumpkin carving contest is back, along with a host of Halloween-themed events that will bring out your creativity and sense of fun. Be sure to take advantage of the many unique and mindful activities our Residence Life team has thoughtfully prepared just for you. These events are a great way to de-stress, meet new people, and fully embrace the vibrant community around you
As we dive deeper into the month, I know many of you may start feeling the added weight of academic pressures midterms, critiques, and deadlines are approaching fast. It’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed, especially when you’re juggling school, social life, and adjusting to life away from home Homesickness can sneak up on you during this period, and it’s important to recognize that these feelings are completely normal.
What’s most important, though, is that you take time for yourself. I can’t stress enough the value of self-care. While it might seem impossible to squeeze in breaks, downtime, or sleep, taking care of your mental and physical well-being is essential for your success Pushing through exhaustion won’t lead to your best work in fact, it’s the quickest path to burnout. Make sure you’re giving yourself space to breathe: schedule in short breaks, carve out time to rest, and find ways to recharge, whether that’s spending time with friends, calling home, or simply relaxing on your own
Remember, you’re never alone in this journey. Our Residence Life team is always here to support you, whether you need a listening ear or help navigating the challenges ahead. Don’t hesitate to talk to your floor CA, participate in programs, or reach out when things feel tough. We’re here to ensure you thrive, both personally and academically I’m wishing each of you a productive, joyful, and balanced October
Kind regards,
Daniel Travieso, (he/him/his)
