Preparations for Winter If you have never experienced a Canadian winter before, then here are some tip that’ll sure help you To stay warm, investing in appropriate clothing is essential. Start with a good quality, insulated winter coat, preferably one that's waterproof to protect against the snow. Layering is essential; buy thermal or wool sweaters, moisture-wicking base layers, and insulated boots for warm, dry feet. Add thermal gloves, a cozy hat, a thick scarf for protection, and consider thermal socks and long underwear for extra warmth. Activities like ice skating, skiing, or snowshoeing are great ways to embrace the winter season and make the most of the snowy landscape, indoor activities like cozying up with a cup of hot cocoa can also be enjoyable.

Ultimately, adapting to the Canadian winter involves both practical clothing choices and a positive attitude toward the unique charms of this season.

Restaurant Recommendations Downtown Montreal is saturated with restaurants of all different cuisines. It can be hard to pick what to try. Here are our top picks for cozy meals to keep you warm this fall.

Drogheria Fine Sometimes, simplicity is the best. Some of the most famous and well-loved restaurants in Montreal only serve one thing. Drogheria Fine is one of these restaurants, serving only gnocchi in a classic Italian tomato sauce. Despite the larger serving sizes and long lines, the gnocchi is only served for 5 dollars!

Solit Café

Kinton Ramen

This cafe is relatively new, and yet it is already so well-loved. A perfect vibe for fall, Solit has all the coffee and snacks you’d need. Here, you can find both traditional coffees, muffins, and salads, as well as some more untraditional flavors like grilled cheese donuts and earl gray flavored pastries! Not to mention, the staff are extremely friendly to customers. This is also a great place to study, so long as you leave your laptop at home!

This restaurant will have you sweating! Just past Saint-Catherine St, Kinton Ramen serves hot and fresh noodle dishes to adore! The portions are large, and the meat is very tender. Typically, the menu features chicken, tofu, and pork, but currently there are also options for beef available. There are also classic Japanese fusion desserts available to cool down your palette. We recommend you start your meal at Kinton with the spicy karaage chicken - and see if you can finish it without crying!

Lloydie’s From time to time, Montreal’s restaurants can be a little repetitive. There are hundreds of pizza places, sushi restaurants, and burger shops. On the other hand, Lloydie’s is an opportunity to take yourself out of your comfort zone. You might not notice its humble exterior walking down St Viateur, but once you enter, you’re met with a bright interior design and the smell of pure flavor! Lloydie’s serves lots of great Carribean food, but we think you’d be a food not to pick the oxtail bowl each time. The tender meat stew, combined with well-seasoned rice and slightly sweet grilled plantains is absolute fire! Don’t let the traditional vibe fool you - the friendly staff here play quite a lot of hip hop and UK drill.

Osmo x Marusan For those who love food that looks as good as it tastes, this place is perfect! You may have seen their creamy tamago sandwiches on your for you page. Just down the street from Campus1, this cafe serves delicious Japanese meals and drinks in a perfect atmosphere, including a DJ and pergolastyle tables. Some people come just to sit and study. Additionally, both the coffee and the matcha tea are highly revered among young people in Montreal, and for good reason. We’re here to tell you that Osmo x Marusan is worth the hype!

Nov Resident Spotlight Birkoff Bacmeister

Our resident spotlight of the month is Birkoff Bacmeister. He comes from Cancun, Mexico, and he is in Montreal to pursue his studies in Finance at Concordia. He’s currently a second year in university, and it is also his second year living at Campus1. His first impression of Campus1 was witnessing this impressive building full of students in a similar situation as himself. He found himself at home in Campus1 due to every student in the building relating to being away from home, and he has found the environment to be very inviting and friendly. He also found Campus1 to be vibrant and full of diverse and different ethnicities and cultures, and also realized that there is always something to do and see within Campus1 itself. He also greatly appreciates the location of Campus1’s building, as it is very close to many central places in the city and downtown. He loves that the staff is very involved with the students' needs and wants within the building. He also appreciates the commodity of the cafeteria, as it is convenient and really useful in his day-to-day life. He likes being able to make new friends from all around the world, and being able to have the opportunity to be involved with one another. He would like to send an appreciation announcement to Thomas, his roommate in the first year of living at Campus1, who made his experience great and worthwhile.
