keep safe and keep supporting Summer is here, but COVID hasn't completely left. While we're all excited to go out and enjoy our summer activities, we should continue to be mindful of those who are vulnerable to COVID risks. Here are some ways to bring positive impacts to our communities while keeping each other safe!

WEAR A MASK Wear a mask when going out and staying in public spaces to keep you and the people around you safe. Your health matters, and so do theirs!

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF Take care of your mental and physical health. Connect regularly with friends and family members. Know that you don't have to have it all together during this time. We need to check in with ourselves first before we have the capacity to help others.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES 1. Shop at a farmer's market 2. Spread the word - share your favorite local businesses with others, or give them a shout out on social media! 3. Order delivery or take out! 4. Tip service workers

SOCIAL DISTANCING Since not everyone chooses to wear masks when being out, the least we can do is continue social distancing, so we don't put others around you and those who are vulnerable at home at risk.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATES On June 30th, 2020 the city of Toronto released a new Mandatory Mask or Face Covering bylaw. "Wearing a mask or face covering will be required in indoor public spaces beginning July 7, 2020. The mask or face covering should cover your nose, mouth and chin, without gapping. Wearing a mask or face covering is an additional measure we can take to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep each other safe. This means that, with some exceptions, all customers or visitors entering an indoor premise are required to wear a mask or face covering while inside." - City of Toronto. What does this mean for CampusOne? The safety of our residences and staff are always our top priority. Keeping this is mind we at CampusOne kindly ask that all staff, residents, and personal entering the building to please wear a mask in any and all public spaces including elevators, hallways, front entrances/lobbys, and any common shared spaces. For more COVID-19 information visit the City of Toronto website at: toronto.ca Search "Mandatory Mask or Face Covering Bylaw" for specific information on the new Toronto bylaw. As always, thank you for your cooperation. Stay safe & well CampusOne

Amplify Melanated Voices In light of recent events across the US and the protests taking place around many parts of the world, CampusOne along with Canadian Campus Communities(CCC) have committed ourselves to the purpose of amplifying melanated voices. We are choosing to add our voices to this important conversation in hopes of bettering our world even if on the tiniest level. To be clear, we do not intend to mix into politics, however this is an issue of basic human rights. At CampusOne, we want to create a safe place for dialogue and learning as we try and do a small part in advancing the conversation. We've recently introduced a new category within our programming model: Social Justice, Diversity and Inclusion. The purpose of this category is to keep the conversation going, supporting the #blacklivesmatter movement and engaging our residents to actively be part of learning, listening and change among all marginalized communities . Some of these programming initiatives include, but are not limited to: monthly book suggestions and literary works, community guest speakers, movie/documentary suggestions, and an Educate Yourself Campaign through our Monthly Newsletter & Social Media aimed to provide our residents with resources to become more knowledge on these topics. This summer, our primary focus will be race, however post-summer this conversation will extend into areas such as: religion, orientation, socioeconomic status, and much more. Our goal is to encourage you, our dear resident, to dig deeper into these conversations as we all learn to broaden our perspectives a little more.

RESOURCES TO BE A BETTER ALLY An ally is someone who has privelege but chooses to stand for and with marginalized communities. Below are some resources to help educate yourself about the histories and current issues facing these communities.

BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME BY TA-NEHISI COATES This book is a letter from the author to his 15year-old son, detailing the history of Black people in the United States, explaining the struggles and realities of being a Black American, and answering questions like, “What is it like to inhabit, and live with, a black body?”

THE BLUEST EYE BY TONI MORRISON The author writes about a young black girl who dreams of having the blonde hair and blue eyes that she’s been led to believe are the ideal of beauty. Through the book, Morrison details how institutionalized racism affects children from a young age.

WOMEN, CULTURE, & POLITICS BY ANGELA Y. DAVIS A collection of political activist Davis’ speeches and essays addressing the political and social changes of the past decade as they are concerned with the struggle for racial, sexual, and economic equality.

HOW CAN WE MAKE

BLACK LIVES MATTER?

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR UNCONSCIOUS BIAS

We all have existing biases, but we cannot change the current circumstances if we do not acknowledge our own preconceptions first. Every one of us should know what it means to have bias and what it means to be anti-racist.

FURTHER YOUR KNOWLEDGE: BOOKS & FILMS

Books: Between the World and Me, Ta-Nehisi Coates How to be an Anti-Racist, Ibram X. Kendi Until We Are Free: Reflections on Black Lives Matter in Canada The Skin We're In, Desmond Cole

Movies/shows: When They See Us (Netflix) 13th (Netflix) Dear White People (Netflix) The Hate You Give American Son (Netflix)

LISTEN AND LEARN

The best way to actively show support and solidarity is to listen when those who have been affected are speaking. Take in the messages and stories from the Black community, and don't dominate the conversations by talking about yourself if you are non-Black. Instead, reflect on the ways you can do to help make their voices heard and continue learning more about the situation.

TAKE ACTION

Continue to screenshot, share, and repost resources to educate those around you Support Black-owned businesses Sign petitions If you can, donate to community organizations Attend a protest Continue supporting racial justice and equality Engage in conversations to raise awareness
