Showdown 2026 was held in Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec, this July and brought together more than 90 exhibitors from across Canada, along with representatives from Mexico. Juniors competed in a wide range of events, including conformation, grooming, public speaking, and showmanship, showcasing the talent, hard work, and dedication of our young Angus enthusiasts. Beyond the show ring, the weekend was filled with learning opportunities, laughter, and lifelong memories. Whether connecting with old friends, making new ones, cheering each other on, or simply celebrating our shared passion for Angus cattle, Showdown 2026 was certainly a weekend to remember. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our retiring directors, Chloe Loane, Kylie Willms, Chase Bruynooghe, and Emma Fox, for their time, dedication, and contributions to the Canadian Junior Angus program. We wish each of them all the best in their future endeavors. Looking ahead, we are excited for Canadian Western Agribition in Regina this November. A special thank you goes to Wilbar Cattle Co. for generously donating the 2026 CJA fundraiser heifer. The heifer will be sold by Dutch auction at the All Star Angus Sale, with proceeds supporting Canadian Junior Angus scholarships, bursaries and other initiatives. Looking even further ahead, mark your calendars for the 2027 GOAL Conference, which will be held February 13–15 in Edmonton, Alberta, and Showdown 2027, which will take place July 26–28 in Barriere, British Columbia. There are bursaries available to help offset travel costs, and we strongly encourage all juniors to take advantage of these opportunities, along with the scholarships available. Both GOAL and Showdown provide incredible experiences, and the friendships, connections, leadership skills, and industry knowledge gained through Canadian Junior Angus are truly invaluable. We look forward to another great year ahead and to seeing many of you at the upcoming events!

Provincial Reports British Columbia I hope this message finds you all well and that you enjoyed a wonderful summer filled with new experiences, accomplishments, and time spent with friends and family. Once again, the annual On the Beef ‘Bandwagon’ event, hosted by the BCJAA, was a tremendous success. This year, we gathered at Halltray Farms in Vanderhoof, and it was especially exciting to see an increase in attendance. Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to making the event such a memorable one.
In late June, British Columbia had the privilege of hosting the National Angus Convention in Kamloops. The convention provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with Angus enthusiasts of all ages, visit local ranches, and experience the hospitality and community that make the Angus breed so special. Throughout the summer, Angus juniors from across the province remained active at 4-H achievement days and summer shows. It is always exciting to see our members involved in their local communities and proudly representing the Angus breed. This year, British Columbia also hosted two Angus GOLD shows. The first was held at the IPE in Armstrong over the September long weekend, followed by the second at the Lakes District Fair in Burns Lake from September 11–13. Our summer show season was capped off with our annual Alberta Junior Angus show in Bashaw, held from August 10-12. As always, the few days were spent competing and having fun with members across our province and beyond!
Alberta Hello fellow junior Angus members, we hope you all had a good summer! Summer kicked off with the annual Summer Synergy Show in Olds, Alberta held in July. It had a great turnout in the Angus breed with about 50 head being entered.
Later that week, the Canadian Junior National All Breeds show took place, during which we crowned our purebred and commercial Triple Crown winners. This award is given to the females that gain the most points from placings from our three shows, Summer Synergy, the Alberta Junior Angus Show and Canadian Junior National All Breeds. Congratulations to our commercial champion, Reed Howell and Kasey Adams as our purebred champion. attend the GOAL Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We were fortunate enough to learn lots from many different industry producers from very different backgrounds. Saskatchewan also had good representation at Showdown in Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec as well.
Saskatchewan As I sit down to write this report and reflect on the past year, I realize that the Saskatchewan Junior Angus members have been very busy throughout the country. We had 19 Saskatchewan Junior Angus members “Get Connected”
The Saskatchewan Junior Angus board has been hard at work these last couple months planning and gathering sponsorship for our Junior Angus Gold Show that is held in Lloydminster during the week of Stockade Round up. With the addition of a few new directors on our board, we have been able to reach out to lots of producers seeking sponsorship to ensure we have great prizes
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to all of the volunteers, speakers, hosts, and sponsors whose time, effort, and continued support make these events possible. Your contributions are invaluable to the BCJAA and are truly appreciated. Looking ahead, we are incredibly excited to welcome Angus juniors from across the country to Barriere, British Columbia, for Showdown, taking place July 26–28 next year. We look forward to hosting an event filled with fun, friendship, new connections, and plenty of lasting memories. I can’t wait to welcome everyone to BC! Wishing you all the very best for the remainder of the year and a successful fall show season. Hanna Fitchett Now, we’re looking forward to the fall show season, and are excited to see the cattle at our provincial gold shows. As we look into 2027, we are especially looking forward to hosting the GOAL conference in Edmonton! For any questions about GOAL, please reach out to either Lexi or Reese. Remember to keep an eye on our AJAA social media pages, for scholarship opportunities, announcements, and to see everything else we’re up to. Once again, thank you to the sponsors, volunteers and members for such a great year! Lexi Dietrich and Reese Wildman
for the juniors who participate in our show at Stockade Round Up. The Saskatchewan Junior Angus Board has been discussing with the Saskatchewan Junior Simmental Board about the possibility of having our Junior Gold shows at the same venue and time to hopefully bring in more juniors and entries to each show in 2027. Stay tuned for more information on that in the coming months. Every year, the Saskatchewan Junior Angus Association awards two $1,000 Scholarships to junior members. The process to enter for the scholarship is online and the entry deadline is November 15th. To apply you must be a CJA member that resides in Continued on next page

The Saskatchewan Junior Angus Association Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 25th and all juniors are encouraged to attend. We will meet late afternoon at the Agribition grounds. Also, at Canadian Western Agribition the Saskatchewan Junior Angus Board holds a Fun Day for all the youth around the barns.
We have held this activity on the Friday of CWA for years where we play games and have prizes for the youth so they can run around and get to know other kids around their age at Agribition and hopefully make new friends. Juniors, meet at the Saskatchewan Angus booth in the barn at 3 pm Friday for this year’s event!

Ontario Hi, Angus juniors! What a great year it has been for Angus Juniors from Ontario and across the Country! In July, 36 Ontario juniors made the trip to Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec, for the 2026 Canadian Junior Angus Showdown, held July 16–18. It was great to see so many of our juniors take advantage of this great opportunity, being as close as it can get without being at home in Ontario. Over the week, we had the opportunity to make many new friendships and strengthen existing ones, and Ontario juniors found success in the show ring and in the many competitions offered. This year was my second as Ontario’s director; I

Also during the summer Mar Mac Farms and Rooke Farms held an Angus tour day on July 27th where 180 Angus enthusiasts gathered from all across Canada for the tour, as well as visitors from the Netherlands and Germany. Looking into the fall, we have the Fall Junior show at Ag Ex held in Brandon from October 28th to 31st. Agribition is being
As for me, this is my first year on the board as the Manitoba Director. This has been such a great experience already. I can’t wait for the coming year and to see everyone in the fall at shows and sales. I encourage everyone to mark your calendars for the GOAL Conference being held in Edmonton, from February 13th to 15th, 2027. I wish everyone luck this fall with Female sales and Fall shows! couldn’t be more honored to represent such a strong group of juniors at the Canadian level. I’m already looking forward to seeing you all next year in British Columbia, July 26–28, for Showdown 2027. Ontario, let’s follow up on the success and numbers from this past year - you won’t want to miss it!
end of the 2026 show season with the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. It runs November 5–15 in Toronto. With another Junior Angus Show on the schedule for November 5th, we’re excited to see juniors and their families bring their best cattle to Ontario’s capital and compete at the highest level.
After a quick turnaround from Showdown, Ontario hosted the Double Feature show in partnership with the Ontario Young Simmental Association in Grassie, Ontario, July 31 – August 2nd. 43 juniors competed on the Angus side in the “Blackout” portion of the show. A huge thank-you goes out to our sponsors and to both the Canadian and Ontario Junior Angus Boards for making these events such a success.
On a personal note, I returned to school in September to begin my fourth year of Agricultural Business at the University of Guelph. I’m also excited for the fall sale and show run; look out for the Shiloh Valley Farms stall in Toronto and stop by for a chat!
As we shift our focus to fall events, with many 4-H and open beef shows across the province, we are all looking forward to the
Lastly, I encourage everyone to make plans to attend the GOAL Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, in February. I look forward to catching up with many of you somewhere along the road! Nathan Dawe

Provincial Reports Quebec Hello fellow juniors, I hope you’ve all had a great summer and are enjoying the routine back to school! In Quebec the summer started off with the QJBS where we had roughly 15 head of Angus cattle. Fast push to Showdown where we welcomed many juniors to Ayer’s Cliff,
Quebec. Thank you to everyone who came and everyone who helped along the way, I truly appreciate it and congratulations to all the winners! Then on Labor Day weekend, we had our first gold show at Brome Fair! It was great to see all the exhibitors and congratulations to Arthur Brissette who was Reserve Showman during the Young Farmers Show! I look forward to seeing you all at Expo Boeuf for our second gold show and the QAA AGM! Have a great fall and calving season everyone!

Maritimes The 2026 year has been a successful one for the Canadian Junior Angus members across the Maritimes. Juniors from Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick have been active in shows, educational events, and competitions throughout the year. It has been great to see strong participation from all three provinces and continued enthusiasm for the Angus breed among our junior members.
very successful Showdown and represented the Maritimes extremely well.
PEI, along with several entries from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Next up was the Nova Scotia Gold Show taking place from September 24th to 26th at the Hants County Exhibition in Windsor, Nova Scotia. As the largest beef show in the Maritimes, the Classic Heritage Beef Show attracts cattle and exhibitors from all three provinces and is an important event on the Maritime Angus calendar. Lastly, the New Brunswick Gold Show will be held in Sussex, New Brunswick, from October 16th to 17th. This will wrap up the Maritime Gold Show season and provide another opportunity for breeders and juniors from across the region to come together and showcase their Angus cattle.
The Maritimes had a strong delegation of 10 juniors competing at Showdown 2026 in Ayers Cliff, Quebec representing PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Our juniors performed very well across several competitions. Trigger Upshaw and Will Long won the title of Reserve Champion Junior Team Grooming, while Trigger also brought home the Special Canadian Bred Award with Freyburn Kristina 90N. Our Maritime group also took home the title of Annual CookOff Champions. Overall, our juniors had a
The Maritime Angus Field Day was held at Oulton’s Farm in Martock, Nova Scotia, on August 1st and 2nd, 2026. There were 29 Maritime juniors and 30 animals entered this year. The first day included our annual junior meeting, followed by a bovine reproduction presentation from ST Genetics representative Kyler Dingle. The second day featured a very successful junior show, with participation from juniors representing all three Maritime provinces. The event provided a great opportunity for our juniors to gain knowledge, develop their showmanship skills, and spend time together as a group. The Maritimes also hosts three Gold Shows each year, providing breeders and juniors with opportunities to exhibit their cattle throughout the region. The first was the Old Home Week Angus Show, held at the PEI Provincial Exhibition. This year’s show took place on Friday, August 21st, at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. There was a good number of cattle exhibited from across
Bonne année scolaire à tous! Allison Morse
Overall, 2026 has been a strong year for Angus in the Maritimes, with excellent junior participation, successful shows, and continued collaboration between the three provinces. We are proud of the accomplishments of our juniors and look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to grow the Angus breed throughout the Maritimes. Austin Potts

CEO Report Leading the Change Change is the one thing you can always count on in the cattle business. Prices swing, weather shifts, technology races ahead — and the breeders who thrive are the ones who lean into it long before the rest of the herd catches up. The Canadian Angus Association has been leaning in hard. This summer, our head office packed up its desks and moved to a new home in Airdrie, Alberta. And underneath that move sits an even bigger one: AngusHOME, the Association’s own registry database, built from the ground up so every pedigree, weight, transfer and DNA request lives in one live system that members control themselves. What once took phone calls, forms and waiting now happens the instant you click register.
Page 6
That is what business evolution looks like — not change for change’s sake, but change embraced on purpose, so the Association doesn’t simply keep pace with our industry, it helps lead it. For Canadian Junior Angus members, that pace matters. Next time you log in to register a calf, remember: that tool didn’t exist a generation ago — someone chose to build it. The herd we inherit will look different from the one our grandparents knew — new tools, new expectations, new markets. We can wait for those changes to happen to us, or we can shape them now: learn the new systems, ask questions, and bring our ideas to every junior event we can. This new platform is just the start of what is possible. There will be new features, new
opportunities to embrace and new tools that will allow you to do things that you have never done before. Communication platforms will be integrated, AI advantages will be explored, how you can use your data will change and the opportunity to use your information like you have never done before. The Association we belong to doesn’t fear what’s coming — it builds toward it. Myles Immerkar Canadian Angus Association CEO

Ambassador Report I am incredibly honoured to have been selected as the 2026– 2027 CAF Robert C. McHaffie Junior Angus Ambassador! My name is Lexi Dietrich, and along with my family, own and operate Redrich Farms outside of Forestburg, Alberta. We run a primarily Red Angus purebred herd of approximately 230 head, along with commercial cows. I grew up running around the show barns and Angus alleys, taking every opportunity I could to chat with anyone who would listen. The opportunities I have gained through the Canadian Angus Foundation, Canadian Angus Association, Canadian Junior Angus Association, and the incredible people within our industry have been endless. Being selected as the Robert C. McHaffie Junior Angus Ambassador has been a goal of mine for a number of years. This year, I am excited to have the opportunity to give back to the people and organizations that have helped me grow into the person and cattlewoman I am today. I hope to be a mentor, a familiar face, and someone juniors can reach out to as they find their own place within the Angus industry. What an unforgettable couple of days in British Columbia! My fellow finalists, Allison Morse, Cameron MacDonald, Adelynn Fisher and Ava Loveridge and I had the opportunity to attend the National Convention, participate in the meetings and tour Douglas Lake and Nicola Ranches. From watching talented cowboys and remarkable horses at work to connecting with passionate Angus breeders and members from across the country, every experience was one to remember. A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us with such warm hospitality and made those few days so special. It was an incredible introduction to the people and operations that make our industry so diverse. As part of the competition to become ambassador the finalists completed a quiz and interview and did a prepared speech to the Convention delegates. Then came an incredible week in Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec! From meeting new people and “Get Connected”
seeing outstanding Angus cattle to taking in the beautiful scenery, this year’s Showdown was one to remember. I kicked off the trip with a tour of Ranch Covey Hill, where we learned more about their operation and even had the opportunity to see how they produce their delicious maple syrup. Once the show got underway, the week was filled with judging, grooming, a fun mixer night, and the highly competitive Cook-Off. It was amazing to watch so many juniors immerse themselves in the activities, build new friendships, and enjoy everything Showdown has to offer. One of the highlights was welcoming our international participants from Mexico. It was such a great opportunity to share our skills competitions and show experience with them while also learning about their experiences exhibiting cattle back home. It was a great reminder that although our operations, shows, and communities may look different, our passion for the Angus breed creates a common connection. Thank you to everyone who helped make Showdown 2026 such a memorable experience—I can’t wait for the next one!
members, learn from the people I meet, and bring those experiences home with me. I believe some of the best ideas come from simply having conversations with people who do things a little differently than we do. If there is an event, operation, program, or opportunity that you think I should attend, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on any platform. I want to experience as much of our Angus community as possible—from east to west across Canada—and I want to hear from you about what makes your part of the industry special. I can’t wait for the year ahead as I represent the next generation of Angus enthusiasts, promote our incredible breed, and help preserve the legacy that has been built before us while contributing to an exciting future for our industry. Here’s to an amazing year ahead—and to connecting our Angus community from coast to coast! Lexi Dietrich
These experiences have already given me a new appreciation for just how large and diverse the Canadian Angus community is. From British Columbia to Quebec, and from established breeders to young juniors just finding their way into the industry, there are so many different experiences, ideas, and opportunities to learn from. As I travel across Canada throughout the coming year, one of my biggest goals is to help close the gap between East and West. I want to learn what juniors and breeders are doing in different regions, share those ideas with others, and create more opportunities for our members to connect beyond their own provinces. I also hope to bring something new to the table for our members to grow from. Whether that is through social media, educational opportunities, conversations with industry members, or simply creating more ways for juniors to get involved, I want to use this position to make a meaningful impact. Keep an eye on social media, because I have some ideas I am excited to share. Most importantly, I want this ambassadorship to be about more than simply attending events. I want to be present, listen to our Page 7
2026 CJA Scholarship Recipients started building our own commercial Angus herd. Now I no longer have to borrow space to do what I love. I can step outside and know that I’m building something that isn’t just for myself, but for the next generation of Angus enthusiasts. I want to allow youth to have opportunities to own livestock and be able to get into the Angus breed in the future. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we continue to build our breed and promote youth in agriculture. Those just getting into cattle need support in getting their start into the Angus breed.
Last February, I had the opportunity to attend the GOAL Conference, and it was one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had so far. Being surrounded by other passionate juniors and leaders from across the country reminded me just how strong and far-reaching the Angus community is. I walked away from GOAL with many new connections, knowledge on the industry and the importance of giving back to the Angus breed. I know I’m not just a participant in this community, I’m part of the Angus breeds future.
My journey in the Angus industry started eleven years ago but not on a family farm, in town. At the time, my passion for cattle had nowhere to grow except through boarding my animals at a place outside of town. While other juniors might have been walking out the door to do chores in their backyard, I was driving outside of town to go work with my animals. Those early years taught me how much I truly loved working with cattle, specifically Angus cattle.
Being involved in the Angus industry has taught me more than I could ever learn in a classroom. I’ve learned what makes a strong animal, how to manage pedigree and breeding decisions, caring for cattle and how to balance patience with determination. I’ve developed practical skills in animal nutrition, calving, and networking with other breeders. I’ve learned how to work hard, even when no one is watching.
For eleven years now, the Angus industry has been a constant in my life. What started as a hobby quickly became a lifestyle and developed into a deep passion for the Angus breed. From showing calves, to building relationships and connections with breeders and becoming more involved with Canadian Junior Angus, I’ve grown right alongside my animals.
The Angus industry has given me more than skills: it’s given me a community. Whether it’s the families I’ve met at shows or the breeders who’ve shared advice, the Angus world is filled with people who care deeply about their cattle and even more about supporting youth. I’ve been mentored, encouraged, and inspired by this industry. It’s because of the support, that I feel confident helping at events, mentoring youth and stepping into leadership roles that used to intimidate me.
Attending GOAL also helped me see the bigger picture. The Angus breed is more than just cattle: it’s genetics, innovation, sustainability, and a community. It’s about consistently producing high-quality beef for our consumers and doing so in a sustainable way. Being involved in the Angus industry has helped shape my values and clarified what I want my role in agriculture to be. I continue to build my commercial herd, and am pursuing the career of a cattle embryologist. I know that my time as a CJA member has laid the foundation for what comes next.

The Canadian Junior Angus Association has played a significant role in shaping my experience within the agriculture industry. Over the years it has provided me with countless opportunities to step outside my comfort zone, connect with others and gain experiences that have shaped who I am today. Whether it was through attending events, meeting new individuals or taking on leadership roles, the CJAA has allowed me to grow in confidence and develop skills that will continue to support me in my future.

In many ways, the Angus industry helped me discover who I really am. It taught me that you don’t need to be born into a big operation to make your mark. Passion, persistence, and community can take you just as far. From boarding cattle while in town, to running my own herd, I’ve come a long way and I’m just getting started.
where I have had the opportunity to attend two events yearly and become more involved in the association. Through events like Showdown and GOAL conference I have been pushed out of my comfort zone and encouraged to have genuine conversations with my fellow juniors. These experiences have helped me build confidence both personally and professionally while allowing me to connect with others who share similar goals. In addition, I have had the opportunity to hear from a variety of guest speakers and participate in workshops alongside my peers, which has broadened my perspective of both the Angus breed as well as the

industry. Being surrounded with like-minded individuals has created an environment where I can constantly learn and grow. I truly believe that joining the board has been instrumental in my involvement within the association. It has not only allowed me to become more engaged but has also helped me further my communication skills and leadership. These experiences have shaped me into the individual I am and will continue to influence my future within the industry. I believe the most rewarding aspect of being a CJAA member is the people you meet along the way. Through CJAA events, I’ve had the opportunity to create meaningful friendships with juniors from across the country who share a common respect and passion for the Angus breed and the agriculture industry. I’ve also been fortunate to connect with some of the most respected individuals in the breed
and learn directly from them. Many of these individuals have become mentors, taking me under their wing to share their knowledge and provide experiences that would never have been possible without becoming a member of the CJAA. Through these connections I have gained valuable insight into both the cattle industry and the leadership required to succeed within it. From a young age, I have always felt welcomed and supported within this community and it reassuring to know that there will always be someone there when you need them. That sense of community is something I truly value and gives me confidence as I move forward beyond my years as a junior. The opportunities I have been lucky to receive have all increased my willingness to give back and help with the next generation of Junior Angus members. Having benefited always trailed behind my two older sisters at shows, wanting to be like them. Now that they are aged out, I am on my own showing. But that hasn’t slowed me down. The CJAA has given me so many opportunities, not only participating in many different provinces, but scholarship opportunities, and so many lifelong friendships. I have met many of my good friends at CJAA events, and it is something that I am grateful for.
Kasey Adams 3rd Place $1,500 Some of my most important memories, lessons, and friendships have come from long days at cattle shows, early mornings in the barn, and experiences through the Angus industry. I have been heavily involved in the Angus industry for as long as I can remember. I am a fourth generation farmer at Ter-Ron Farms, where we raise about 225 Red and Black Angus cattle. Growing up on a farm, I learned many sought out traits, like hard work, discipline, and leadership. I truly understood the hard work you need to put in at home, if you want to achieve your goals. My goals since I have been a young girl, were to always do my best in the show ring, which brings me to Canadian Junior Angus Association (CJAA) events. I have been going to Showdown for as long as I can remember. I have been to British Colombia, here in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and am looking forward to this summer in Quebec, all for Showdown. I have “Get Connected”
Another Angus Association that I have been privileged to be on the board of is the Alberta Junior Angus Association (AJAA). This is a board that I have been on for the past three years, and am currently the president. My sisters were both on the board before me too, so I have been helping put on this show for as long as I can remember. AJAA has been able to provide me with so much of the same attributes, like hard work and discipline. I was always a keen little girl, participating in PeeWee events at both Showdown and AJAA, since I could walk. Lots of my best memories are at these shows. Some of the other things these shows have given me are marketing and communication skills. Through marketing and sales talk competitions, I have been able to learn how to market my animals to the best of my ability. These competitions have helped me talk to bull customers, and International people at fall shows. I am grateful these types of competitions put me out of my comfort zone, so I can talk to people about my cattle. Furthermore, my involvement in CJAA has helped open the door for other agricultural
from the mentorships and encouragement of older members I understand the impact that support can have on someone’s confidence and growth. I hope to one day be that same source of encouragement for younger juniors. Giving back to the association that has provided me with so much is truly important to me, and I look forward to continuing to play a role in supporting the next generation of CJA members. Overall, my involvement in the CJAA has been an incredibly rewarding experience that has allowed me to grow, connect and gain valuable skills. The friendships I have built, the experience I have gained, and the support received have all contributed to shaping who I am today. Being part of such a welcoming and supportive community is something I truly value and it gives me confidence as I continue forward in the agriculture industry. events. I got the opportunity to go to Scotland in the summer of 2024 as a part of the Summer Synergy Setting Sails Youth Program. Travel is something that I am very intrigued about, and it was amazing to mix it with my true passion, Angus Cattle. I am hoping that more trips like these are available to me, and I will try and go for those amazing opportunities. I was also in 4-H for 9 years, because of my passion for cattle. 4-H has also brought me so many friends and life lessons. I leave for a trip to Ottawa this May, to go to the 4-H Canada Citizenship Congress, and it is going to be an unforgettable experience. The Angus industry has shaped my life, and shaped me into the person I am today. Without being able to travel all over the country, meeting new people attending Showdown I wouldn’t have met my lifelong friends. Without any of the communication competitions, I wouldn’t have the communication skills I have today. And most importantly, if I did not grow up in the Angus Industry, I would not be the confident young woman I am today. Growing up in this industry has given me responsibility and a very strong work ethic. There is so much you have to do at home, before you can even go to a show. And even though some days I might not want to go feed when it’s raining, or work on cattle every day. It is those little things that make you the best you can, and make you as competitive as possible once you step foot off of the farm. I am so grateful to have grown up in the Angus industry, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Page 9
2026 CJA Showdown Bursary there to support them throughout the event. These experiences allowed me to spend more time with people I have met through the Angus industry and build stronger relationships that extend beyond the show ring.
Receiving a bursary to attend the Canadian Junior Angus Showdown in Québec was an incredible opportunity, and I am very grateful for the support that made the trip possible. Being able to travel across the country and take part in an event that brought together junior Angus members from across Canada, and beyond, was an experience I will never forget. One of the most valuable parts of my experience was the opportunity to make new connections and strengthen relationships within the Angus community. Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to help the Upshaw and Enright families, whether that was assisting with cattle or simply being
I also had the opportunity to meet junior members from Mexico, who I spent time with and toured around Ayer’s Cliff. It was really interesting getting to know them and hearing about their experiences in the cattle industry and showing cattle in Mexico. We were able to talk about our different experiences as junior members and compare what the Angus industry is like in our respective countries. I enjoyed getting to know them and spending time together throughout the trip, and it was a great opportunity to meet people I otherwise may never have had the chance to meet. After Showdown, I was fortunate to continue travelling with the Upshaw family back to their home in New Brunswick. They welcomed me into their home and took the time to tour me around their cattle operation, even while they were busy trying to get hay done. They also showed me around the area, taking me to Hopewell Rocks and Spring Hill Farms. I still cannot believe how many trees and McDonald’s signs there are down
Thank you to Wilbar Cattle Co., Dundurn, SK for their generous donation of Wilbar Jennifer 569P to support Canadian Junior Angus Scholarships and Bursaries!

Overall, this experience gave me the opportunity to represent Saskatchewan, learn from others, build friendships, and strengthen my connections within the Angus community. I am incredibly thankful for the bursary that helped make this experience possible and for everyone who welcomed me and made my time in Québec and New Brunswick so memorable. I would strongly encourage other Canadian Junior Angus members to apply for the bursaries in the future. It is an amazing opportunity to travel, meet new people, experience different parts of the country, and become even more involved in the Angus community. Taking the opportunity to apply will lead to experiences and connections that you will carry with you for years to come. Ava Loveridge

East! Getting to experience another Angus family’s operation and see agriculture from a different part of Canada gave me a new appreciation for how diverse Canadian agriculture is. More importantly, the time I spent with the Upshaw’s allowed me to build a connection and create memories that went far beyond Showdown itself. I am very grateful they took the time to include me in their lives and show me their part of the country.

U.S. Exchange Program This is a PSA to anyone who is ever debating whether to take a leap outside of their comfort zone and expand their skills: this is the event to do it! Amazing people, valuable skills, new friendships, and a beautiful venue all made this an experience I will not forget.
through agriculture, leadership, and my involvement in the Angus industry. It made me realize that sometimes we have more skills and experiences to offer than we give ourselves credit for—we just need to learn how to communicate them.
The Junior Red Angus Association of America held SPARK from March 27–30, 2026, hosted by GKB Cattle at Hi-Point Ranch. The goal of this program was to build leadership skills through three days packed with interactive workshops, teambuilding exercises, and hands-on experiences. Throughout the three days, we focused on business leadership, personal empowerment, and interview preparation. We also participated in a mock interview, where we were able to put what we had learned into practice and receive feedback. One of my favorite parts was learning about the different types of leadership and discovering what type of leader I am. It gave me a different perspective on how I work with others and how I can continue to grow as a leader.
Another part of the experience that I really valued was meeting fellow Junior Red Angus members from across the United States. I enjoyed hearing about their experiences and learning more about the different programs and opportunities their associations provide for their members. As a Canadian Junior Angus Board member, this was especially interesting to me. I was able to bring home new ideas and different perspectives that could potentially be incorporated into our own junior programs in Canada. I love being able to learn from other associations and see what is working for their members, while also thinking about how we can continue to improve and grow our own programs.
One of my biggest takeaways from SPARK was gaining confidence in how I present myself, both in an interview and within the agriculture industry. I had the opportunity to really dissect my resume and look at it from the perspective of a potential employer. We worked on expanding certain details and learning how to better highlight the experiences and skills that I have gained
SPARK is truly a unique experience because of its select group of only 21 participants. Having a smaller group allowed us to have more one-on-one time with each of the presenters and gave everyone an opportunity to participate and share their own experiences. It created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, learning from others, and stepping outside of my comfort zone.
We are so grateful to Canadian Junior Angus and the Canadian Angus Association for the opportunity to travel to Red Angus Youth Expo in Madison Wisconsin as part of the U.S. Exchange Program. We enjoyed the travel, seeing so many new sights as we moved east; a highlight of our trip was staying over with the Red Angus breeders in the area before the show where we were able to tour their operation and visit about genetics and Angus cattle. At the show we met so many new friends and built existing relationships while we competed in as many of the competitions as possible. We were “Get Connected”
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Kathy and Gary Buchholz of GKB Cattle for their incredible hospitality and for sharing their knowledge and passion with the next generation of agriculture. The effort and thought you put into creating this experience speaks for itself through the opportunities you provide to youth. To the speakers and mentors I had the opportunity to learn from—Lauren Perez, J.J. Hampton, Anne Kimmey, Tar Tut, and Tyler Schuster—thank you for helping me gain new skills and encouraging me to continue pushing myself and the next generation to the next level. Each of you brought something different to the experience, and I am grateful I had the opportunity to learn from you. All of these individuals are worth checking out and learning from! Most importantly, SPARK reminded me that growth usually happens when we are willing to do something that makes us a little uncomfortable. Taking that first step can be intimidating, but you never know what opportunities, friendships, or confidence might come from it. To finish my report: always take the jump… because you never know how far you’ll go. Lexi Dietrich
happy to compete in Showmanship, Grooming, Conformation, Judging, Sales Talk, Poster Contest and Skill-A-Thon. Our favourite competitions were Showmanship (Calynn) and Grooming (Hiller). This was an unforgettable experience and we were so happy to represent the Canadian Angus Fraternity; we look forward to attending in the future. Thank you to Canadian Angus and the Canadian Angus Foundation for providing these opportunities to the youth of our breed. Calynn and Hiller Gardner Page 19
