Back in 1999, the groundbreaking series Walking with Dinosaurs redefined our understanding of the prehistoric lizards that ruled our planet millions of years ago.
More than a quarter-century later, a new series with the same name is taking that knowledge even further, illustrating how much paleontology has evolved in the time that’s elapsed by blending the latest scientific research with state-of-the-art CGI animation.
Over the course of six episodes (with two apiece airing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), viewers will meet six distinct dinos, based on information gleaned from ongoing excavations all over the world.
“Utilizing the latest discoveries from dinosaur digs across the globe, paired with showstopping state-of-the-art CGI, this series brings these magnificent giants back to life,” declares the synopsis. “The team of world leading experts and paleontologists help unlock the secrets of how many dinosaurs once lived. Told using stunning VFX, these are tales of struggle, love and survival – the ultimate ancient drama.”
In the first episode, set 66 million years ago in the lush world of Laramidia, viewers will meet an orphaned baby Triceratops.
Alone and vulnerable, she must rely on her wits and small size to survive when she’s stalked by a fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex Today, paleontologists in Montana are uncovering her fossilized remains, providing the opportunity to imagine her life and the dangers she faced.
Subsequent episodes feature “river dragon” Spinosaurus, a band of armoured dinos pursued by predatorial Utahraptors, a teenage Albertosaurus (a faster relative of T. Rex) earning a place in a ferocious pack, the discovery of one of the most populous dinosaur herds that ever lived, and the massive 80-foot-long Lusotitan.

In the meantime, look forward to seeing Brosnan and Mirren together again on Thursday, August 28, in a Netflix original film called The Thursday Murder Club, about a group of eccentric retirees who pass the time by trying to solve cold cases, only to have one of those cases heat up in a hurry. I’ve been loving The Rehearsal, but does it mean that Nathan Fielder’s other show, The Curse, is over?
D.Y., Surrey
The mere existence of HBO’s The Rehearsal, which just wrapped its second season, is not necessarily a death knell for The Curse, the 2023 Paramount+ series that cast Fielder and Emma Stone as a married couple launching a deeply fraught HGTV show. That said, pundits have
speculated that a recent episode of The Rehearsal could mean curtains for The Curse.
For the uninitiated, The Rehearsal finds Fielder setting up elaborate scenarios that allow real people to “rehearse” big life moments (confessing a lie to a friend, raising a child, etc.) before going through with the act itself. Season two has, for the most part, found the B.C.-born comedy auteur putting his time and energy into training people on how to handle a commercial airline disaster. But there was one segment in which he chose to address something personal:
his realization that an episode of his old series Nathan for You, in which Fielder helped struggling businesses turn things around via thoroughly unconventional advice, had been pulled from Paramount+ Germany’s catalogue amidst the Israel/ Hamas conflict due to the fact that it engaged with the topic of antisemitism. (Specifically, that episode found him launching a line of apparel called Summit Ice that promoted Holocaust awareness, in the process raising millions for that cause. Fielder earnestly calls it his “proudest achievement.”)
On The Rehearsal, Fielder staged a meeting with a Paramount+ Germany executive (played by an actor) in a corporate office constructed to look like a Nazi HQ circa the Second World War. As we’ve come to expect from this performer, it was an absurdist but unflinchingly incisive exploration of the company’s decision and the message it sends, while also delving into his own, possibly problematic response to the situation. It’s unknown if this
little controversy has soured the relationship between Fielder and Paramount, but reports indicate that the latter party was not informed about the episode’s content before it aired on HBO.
I heard Hacks is ending next year! I so hope I’m wrong!
E.H., Victoria While HBO Max’s hit showbiz satire was first pitched as a five-season affair, the end may not yet be nigh. Season four wrapped with Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) returning from exile in Singapore on a mission to reclaim their rightful place in Hollywood. This could indeed set the stage for a final chapter, but even the co-creators aren’t quite sure at this point. As Jen Statsky told TVLine: “. . . the truth is that we do let the story and the characters tell us, and so we’re still figuring out how much more there is to tell.”

I was always a fan of The Incredible Hulk back in the day, both in comics and on the TV series that starred Bill Bixby. Are there any thoughts of doing a remake and bringing it back to weekly television?
H.S., Surrey
At this point, despite the character’s recent cameo appearance in Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, there is nothing in the wind about bringing the Hulk back to the small screen full-time. Interestingly enough, despite fans such as you, the ratings for the original show were only so-so, particularly in the final two seasons of its 1977-1982 run. That was not due to a problem with the character or the concept itself, but rather huge logistical issues that seemed to get worse with each passing year. Bill Bixby was five years removed from his successful sitcom The Courtship of Eddie’s Father — followed by two seasons of The Magician and a celebrated performance in the miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man — when he got the offer to play the green monster who turned from mild-mannered Bruce Banner to the raging mountain of fury portrayed by bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno
Budget conundrums slowly took the Banner-toHulk transformations from three times per episode to two and finally just one, due to the high cost of special effects. In the final two seasons, Bill Bixby also suffered the sudden death of his young son, followed by the suicide of his ex-wife. Lou Ferrigno’s autobiography states that Bixby seemed to have just disappeared into himself by that point, and CBS cancelled the show with eight episodes yet to air.

For five seasons, from 2016 though 2023, Canadian writer Aaron Martin delighted horror fans with a tongue-in-cheek anthology called Slasher — each season focusing on a different town terrorized by a different masked maniac. While not what you’d call a “spoof” exactly, the show did approach the genre with a macabre sense of humour. Expect a similar blend of shocks and guffaws in Martin’s latest offering.
Here, Martin and co-creator Ian Carpenter invite us to check in to the Cold River Motel, site of the infamous Satanic Mass Murder, which is still

QHow does Pulse stand apart in the endless ocean of medical series?
AFor me, what really jumped out are the personal relationships. It is very character-driven and the stories of these people are really the most important thing. Like, the least interesting thing that happens on the show is the medical stuff — and the medical stuff is very interesting. There are some really interesting cases that come out of the hurricane [that’s constantly raging throughout season one]; I think it was a really smart thing for the writers to incorporate this blanket of the hurricane to kind of kick off the show and create this throughline for all of the characters to navigate. It really ties everything together.
Q Speaking of those personal relationships, the fact that the Pulse’s two romantic leads begin the show in a sexual harassment dispute isn’t something we’ve seen before . . .
AAbsolutely, yeah. And it’s something very real that could happen in life. In any line of work, there
could be some sort of indiscretion that needs to be dealt with — but then people still need to rock up and work. So, it adds a realism to the show . . . But also, personal drama is just so juicy, and that adds a really dynamic first push of the domino that sets everything up to be teed off for some stress and trauma, which we love on TV.
Q What sort of journey does your character, Sophie — this young surgical intern — go on in season one?
A I think she’s trying to figure out who she is beyond just being a doctor. Who is she without that piece of her identity? And throughout the season, we kind of see her trying to figure out, “What is friendship? What is love? Is there more to life than work?”
To watch a person try to figure out, with every step, what does she love, what is she fighting for, gives her this really beautiful arc of self-discovery.
Asort of Friends for the Gen Z set, Adults has garnered solid notices from critics for its fresh spin on the age-old “hangout comedy.” If you haven’t tuned in to the freshman season before now, a quick primer: the show follows a gaggle of 20-somethings fumbling to make their way in the world, despite not having a clue what it means to be a “grownup.”
Created by former Tonight Show writers Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, it’s executive-produced by Big Mouth’s Nick Kroll alongside Stefani Robinson, a creative force on such series as Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows. Speaking with IndieWire, Robinson unpacked Adults’ unique blend of edgy and familiar. “The joy of TV is that it’s ongoing and can be ongoing, and the format lends itself to ensemble comedies where you feel like you’re part of the friend group,” she explained. “You actually have time to build relationships with the characters, and if it is one of those hangout comedies that are about friends — an ensemble specifically — the hope is that

you, as someone in the audience, feel like they are your friends. Something about the format and it being television — seeing the same group of friends every day, every week, [however] often you put those shows on — it starts feeling really personal.”
Robinson continued: “I had never done something that was so — I say this lovingly — ‘conventional’ in that way, where it was just friends being friends, and there’s no other angle.”
Alas, this Friends-ly hangout is already at an end for season one. Tonight’s two farewell episodes open with Anton and Paul Baker hosting a guest from out of town, while a putupon Issa puts her foot down at work. There’s a playfulness to the art of illusion that makes it a natural bedfellow for comedy. Indeed, most magicians incorporate a few jokes into their act (unless of course they’re going for that dark, brooding, sexy vibe). So then why don’t more comedians add a little magic into theirs?
Justin Willman is pretty much an even split between the two. Is he a magician who does comedy? A comic who does magic? You can be the judge in this new special, which finds the Missouri native cracking jokes (“I love being a dad. I like to think it’s the most important job I’ll ever have . . . and I can say that because I am a magician”) and inviting audience members up
onstage to be dazzled by jokes, tricks and jokes masquerading as tricks (like when he offers one woman a magical cure for smartphone addiction . . . only to pull a ball-peen hammer out of a hat and smash her phone).
As Willman summed up in a chat with Vulture: “All good comedy comes from true life. Comedians get up there and talk about their life and me as a magician, that’s my life . . . It’s an odd little world I live in.”
“[For] comedy purists, magic will never necessarily quench their desire for true art,” he continued, “but I think it’s really fun when you figure out where magic and comedy can come together for a lovely little marriage, but not overpower one another.”
QSeason seven was a little different, because you spent the entirety of it in Taiwan. What surprised you?
A I was shocked by my time in Taiwan because I was born there and I went back a lot during summers and throughout my childhood, so I thought I knew it. But I realized that I knew a tiny, tiny slice of Taiwan, because [this time] I set out with the eyes of an explorer, as a journalist — trying to find the most meaningful, best stories to represent Taiwan to mostly an American audience. It was just amazing to realize that such a small island has so much history and culture and diversity.
QWhy is food such an effective starting point for exploring a place?
A Well, everybody eats. It’s our universal pastime. It’s appetizing and it’s necessary, so we all wanna talk about it. It’s like people talk about, “Hey, what TV show are you watching?” And now, in cities like Vancouver and New York, you can really get anything you want; there’s so much experimentation going on. There are so many people
PBS Passport (Stream)
that are introducing their personal food stories to the world — and it’s so fun to eat my way through it.
QHow exactly does understanding the culture behind a certain cuisine impact the dining experience?
AI think it makes the food taste better, but also it just gives us a greater appreciation for life and understanding of other people when we share a meal with your Ethiopian friend, for instance. You’re learning about their history, their families, their flavour palates — why certain foods are served because, perhaps, of their geography on this planet. Have you ever cooked anything and then gotten a greater appreciation for that dish because you now have an appreciation of all the steps it takes to make it? I think that’s what understanding the culture behind a cuisine offers you — just greater awareness of the world.

TV Stations regularly promote their shows on their channel, and will refer to show times in their specific time zone. For example, a station that is located in the east may only promote their program in eastern time. Also, sometimes U.S. Stations will promote programs on their affiliate stations that are not available in Canada. These types of promo ads may conflict with the listings in TV Week because we list programs in our Pacific Time Zone on stations available only in our market area. Therefore, please follow the listings in TV Week for correct listings information.

The real-life adventures of the NFL’s most iconic cheerleading squad continue in a new season of America’s Sweethearts:
After a stellar first season — reaching the Top 10 TV list in 27 countries around the globe, lasting four weeks on Netflix’s weekly global Top 10 English TV list and causing its theme song, — AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” — to go TikTok-viral, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders returns for a second season.
Directed by Greg Whiteley (Cheer), the series follows aspiring rookies and squad veterans as they audition to be one of 36 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, one of the most recognizable and beloved squads in the NFL. Across seven episodes, the series’ first season followed dancers from tryouts to the end of the 2023-’24 season, showcasing what life was like for the team members both in and out of uniform. The series offered an unfiltered look at the hard work and dedication put into being a Cowboys cheerleader.
Since the debut season ended, Whiteley has been vocal about his interest in returning for a second.
In June 2024, Whiteley spoke with Variety, sharing that the show hit its end right as the cast and crew were starting to pick up speed. “I felt like we were just starting to get there as we were wrapping up, and I’d love to have more time to see if we can get deeper and deeper with more and more of the team,” he said, leaving fans hopeful.
Luckily, Whiteley and the DCC dancers got their wish. The new season continues the format of the first, picking up with the cheerleaders from the moment auditions begin, then following them through training camp all the way through the 2024-’25 NFL season.
Fans can expect to see many familiar faces returning, including coach Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell. Also back are squad members Reece Weaver, Jada McLean
“You need 200 or 300 of them, so you just do your best.”
Then, of course, there’s also the personal drama that unfolds naturally.
and Caroline Sundvold, while some new arrivals promise to shake things up and challenge the status quo.
Putting the show together is no mean feat, especially when filming the cheerleaders on game days. That, Whiteley told Variety, required multiple crews, including shooting with a long lens, a handheld camera and two verité crews. “That may sound like a lot, but it’s a huge field and the girls are [dancing] in four different quadrants,” he pointed out.
“On any given day, there is a cheerleader that is going through something: They’re planning a wedding and they’re stressed out about it, or another girl is about to lose her job and she’s kind of freaking out about it,” he added. “All of them have to sort of set aside their troubles and try and
put on this game face to go perform.”
When the women take to the field for their signature routine set to “Thunderstruck,” fans in the stands probably don’t realize that the five-minute performance is the result of hours upon hours of effort. “To perform ‘Thunderstruck’ at the level that people have expected requires a lot of practice,” Whiteley observed. “You are putting in a lot of time into the studio. Not only that, but you’re watching what you eat every day; you’re working out. There is a physical regimen that is expected. And you also have to pay rent. You’ve got to pay bills, so you’ve got to hold down this other job. So how do you juggle all of that?”
Meanwhile, a big part of a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader’s job is to make complex, athletically challenging routines look easy, something that he believes belies just how much effort it takes. “The problem is, they spend so much time concealing how hard it is,” Whiteley said. “They take something that is extremely difficult and make it look graceful and effortless, so you dismiss it . . . You could give me a million years, I could never perform a jump split.” ■

Family
Thursday, Netfli
MEET THE BUCKLEYS, a family that has ruled the town of Havenport, North Carolina for generations, controlling everything from the local fishing industry to the restaurant scene. That dominance, however, threatens to slip when family patriarch Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany) is felled by not one but two heart attacks. As he recovers, the family fishing empire begins to crumble, as his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary) struggle to keep everything afloat. Meanwhile, daughter Bree (erstwhile Supergirl Melissa Benoist) is experiencing her own struggles;
in the early stages of addiction recovery, she’s lost custody of her son, and finds herself entangled in a complex relationship that threatens to tank the family’s future. Despite his precarious health, Harlan feels he has no option other than retaking control of his family’s empire before it evaporates.
That’s the premise of The Waterfront, a new drama — based on a true story, no less — from TV and film auteur Kevin Williamson (whose TV hits include Dawson’s Creek, The Following and The Vampire Diaries, while his big-screen triumphs are highlighted by I Know What You Did Last Summer and the Scream franchise).
As Williamson tells Netflix’s Tudum, the series explores the dynamics within a wealthy, dysfunctional family, and the
lengths that people will go to when fearing that their legacy is on the line.
“This is about a working man who’s trying to make a go of it for his family. They’ve pulled themselves up from nothing and they’ve built this mini fishing empire in their small little town,” he says. “Now it’s being taken away from them bit by bit. They’ll do anything to hold onto it, because it represents their family.”
Harlan’s decision to retake the reins, however, only comes when he sees the questionable and desperate decisions that Belle and Cane have been making. Cane, however, has a complicated relationship with his father, seemingly unable to say
no to him. Married to Peyton (Danielle Campbell), a proper Southern belle with whom he shares a young daughter, Cane likes the money his family business affords him. However, he’s come to realize that money is simply a Band-Aid that doesn’t change the fact that the life he’s living is not the one he wanted. In fact, Harlan has more in common with daughter Bree, who shares his intelligence — but also his propensity for hitting the bottle.
Also in the mix is Shawn West (Rafael L. Silva), a newly hired bartender for the Buckleys who is intrigued by the family and carries a secret that could upend them forever; and Jenna Tater (Humberly
González) a journalist who left her big-city job to tend to her ailing father, placing her on a trajectory toward ex-boyfriend Cane, who’s never really gotten over her.
The Waterfront is deeply personal for Williamson, who based the story on the experiences of his fisherman father. “The fishing industry sort of upturned in the ’80s — it all started to go away, and my dad couldn’t feed his family,” he recalls. “So someone came along and said, ‘Hey, if you do this one thing, you can make all this money.’ And it was hard to say no to.” According to Williamson, that “one thing” was smuggling drugs on his boat. “My dad — a very, very good man — got tempted to do some things that weren’t so legal and got in some trouble. [But] it put food on the table, helped me go to college,” he explains.
For Williamson, the complex family dynamics are rife with drama. “All of our characters are full of light and dark,” Williamson says. “You never know what you’re going to get. ■

John Krasinski & Natalie Portman star in ’80s-style
Apple TV+
hen starring in a Guy Ritchie movie, there is no mistaking the English director for any other filmmaker. “Guy comes dressed to set as if he’s a character in the movie,” says Fountain of Youth star
Natalie Portman. “He wouldn’t wear his life preserver when we were on the water, so they made him one that was houndstooth or plaid so it would go with his outfit.” It was Ritchie’s involvement — more as a director than a fashion-maker — that also played the largest part in John Krasinski coming onboard the action-adventure film. “A key ingredient is to have someone
have a vision of, ‘Why is this different and why is this fun?’ and bring his own personality to every single shot in every single location,” says Krasinski. “To be in a Guy Ritchie version of this genre is what made it so unique and fun for me.”
Another key factor for the actors was the relationship between brother and sister, in the film about estranged siblings Luke and Charlotte Purdue reluctantly joining forces to help a wealthy corporate raider with a terminal illness (Domhnall Gleeson) find the fountain of youth. But for Krasinski to be paired up with Portman for the ride, was a dream come true. “A very key ingredient is chemistry between actors, which was super easy with Natalie,” he says. “She’s one of my favourite actors of all time. And then to get to laugh with her as much as I did was so much fun.”
It is a good thing these two were able to see the humour in their collaboration, as both were tasked with some wet and wild stunts that were career-firsts. “For me it was very, very different because anything I’ve done on this scale has had so much CGI and this was in real places with real people,” says Portman. “When we were in the car in Liverpool doing stunt sequences, that was genuine screaming terror from me, because we were really whipping around corners in a chase. It was
really exciting to get to experience those sequences.”
Krasinski had the added challenge of turning many of his action sequences into flirty foreplay with sexy antagonist Esme, played by Eiza González, who wants to get the fountain first. “Eiza is amazing,” raves Krasinski. “It is very hard to do action sequences, period, but fight scenes are very difficult because you don’t know how the other actor’s going to react. She trained so hard for all those action sequences, and is also incredibly talented as an actress. What was really fun about the fight scenes is that you very rarely get the fight scenes being the most romantic parts of the movie, so to have all these moments where the real love
story was in these near-death fight scenes was really fun.”
The theme of eternal youth is something the media tackles daily, but for Portman, their quest in the film is not appearance-based. “One of the things the movie talks about, that I love, is the metaphor [of youth], which is looking for that wonder that we have as young people,” she says. “That passion, curiosity and sense of adventure, that’s what we’re actually looking for. I like to think that the external search for it is actually a misplaced internal search. What we really want is to feel that awe of the world and put it in a cosmetic way.” The pursuit of youth was a
conversation the cast had daily, on set. “What it really came down to for me, is this idea of enlightenment, that you realize now that you’re living in a moment that is potentially the most joyful of your life, so act accordingly,” says Krasinski. “I thought that was really inspiring.”
For Portman, having a thriving career in her 40s, where she is still learning new skills, is something that has taken her by surprise. “I definitely thought I would’ve retired by now,” she says. “But I still like it. What’s been the big surprise is how exciting, fun, interesting, meaningful filmmaking still is to me. The opportunity to create with other people is so magical. I haven’t found anything else quite like it in terms of creative expression.”
Since their height in the 1980s, action-adventure films have had a hard time living up to the standards of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Goonies. Krasinski hopes this film will reignite that trend. “They don’t make them very much anymore,” he muses. “These were the movies I got into movies for — I used to pretend to be in movies like this. To actually be in a movie like this is thrilling. And I do hope that they keep making them because there’s definitely a need for them. Now, more than ever, you want to be transported, to go someplace you’ve never been and meet people you’ve never met. That’s the exciting part of this movie.” ■

nvestigators solve crimes by putting together the jigsaw puzzle of a case one piece at a time. A fresh perspective can put new pieces in the pile that make the outcome appear in a completely different way. In Patience, a new crime drama premiering this week, that alternative point of view is exactly what the Yorkshire police are about to get.
The joint British-Belgian detective series (adapted from a French series, Astrid et Raphaelle), stars Ella Maisy Purvis (A Kind of Spark) as Patience Evans, an autistic woman who works in the city of York’s criminal records office as an archivist. Deep in records work, Patience is far from the investigative action that makes up DI Bea Metcalf’s (Laura Fraser, Crime) daily grind. When Patience and Bea’s paths cross, it becomes clear to Bea that the archivist

has a real gift — not for sorting through paperwork, but for connecting the threads of serial criminals’ offences going under the radar in York. Bea is eager to use Patience’s knack for seeing a bigger picture to solve nagging cases on her desk as much as she is motivated to push Patience to not waste her potential.
While Bea’s confidence in her abilities is inspiring, the change to routine could have consequences for Patience, as being thrust into an entirely new environment could be destabilizing for her, even though she is theoretically in her element as a sidekick to DI Metcalf. “The only things that really interest me are forensics and criminology,” Patience tells Bea over lunch.
Out in the field, Bea and Patience form a strong partnership, bonding over their
shared fixation with leaving no mystery unsolved. However, as Patience’s new work forces her to confront her difficult past and share more about her childhood with Bea, the self-taught detective may find herself out too far in the deep end of York’s criminal underworld.
Neurodivergent herself, Purvis told The Hollywood Reporter why she feels Patience represents a more realistic characterization of autism than how it has previously been depicted onscreen. “I think there are a lot of misconceptions that autistic people are apathetic, whereas we see in the show that Patience cares so deeply about things,” she said. “I think I’m more obsessive than determined. But I certainly share that [passion]. Patience is so internal and very

calculated, while I often don’t know what I’m going to say next.”
Purvis also revealed that her own neurodivergence resulted in producers utilizing her as a resource to increase authenticity. “There were conversations every day,” she explained. “It wasn’t this one massive meeting about what I thought and what could I do. It was just little changes to the language or little extra little add-ons. Matt [Baker], the writer, and I had a conversation, and there were little storylines that were added. It was really collaborative. They wanted my input on everything.”
In that regard, some series have tended to portray autism as a sort of mental superpower — something that the creators of Patience decidedly tried to avoid. “It wouldn’t be realistic if she was like that,” Purvis added. “I mean, she does know all the answers, but she gets really overwhelmed because the world isn’t made for her, which I think a lot of people could relate to — autistic or not.” ■

In this screen adaptation of Stephen King’s 2020 novella, the long-prophesied end of the world is on the verge of arriving, but everywhere Marty (Chiwetel Ejiofor) goes in his small town, he encounters the face of accountant Charles Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) on billboards, window signs and even TV commercials. But why? And why does nobody in town have any idea who this mystery man is?
Summerland, B.C.’s own Morgan Kohan rose to fame as orphan turned orphanage headmistress Lillian Walsh in When Hope Calls, the wholesome frontier drama spun off from When Calls the Heart Debuting in 2019, then going on a lengthy hiatus, Hope returned for a second season in early 2025. Meanwhile, Chad Michael Murray first got hearts a-throbbin’ as Lucas Scott on teen drama One Tree Hill. He’s since appeared in such films as Freaky Friday, Fruitvale Station and, recently, Netflix holiday romp The Merry Gentlemen
Now in season three, this Canadian-made heartwarmer casts Kohan as Maggie, a Boston neurosurgeon forced to start over in her Nova Scotia hometown following a scandal. Murray plays Cal, a come-from-awayer with a traumatic past who might just be Maggie’s soulmate.

QHow have Maggie and Cal evolved since we first met them?
ACHAD: Trauma and things that occur in your life create a scar tissue, right? And it takes a while to heal those wounds. I would say that the more time goes by and the more that these two characters enter each other’s lives and just get deeper, that scar tissue starts to heal and show who they really are.
MORGAN: Yeah. I think it’s been a really beautiful experience getting to see these characters develop. Both of them started quite a bit more closed off, having gone through a lot — wary and having their walls up — and we get to watch them slowly drop any masks and be vulnerable, and see the fruits of that.
Q
This third season opened on a surprising, devastating note. Morgan, what was it like getting into the headspace of a woman who’d miscarried?
AMORGAN: I unfortunately, in my life, have people who have dealt with similar situations. I talked with them and I read some books on miscarriage — the grief and healing from the grief and what that does to your body. I try, no matter what’s going on with my character, to be openhearted and empathetic and to put myself into that mindset.
I think, living in a woman’s body, there’s a sense of understanding. [But] I don’t think I could ever understand it unless I were to go through it myself.
Q Chad, Cal’s in a position of trying to support Maggie in the midst of this tragedy — right as their romance was finally beginning. Is he at a bit of a loss?
A CHAD: Cal’s definitely at a loss, but I think one of the great attributes Cal has is understanding. He’s very much a listener and he’s trying to be keen on what’s going on . . . and trying to understand it. But it’s difficult to understand something when there’s no communication. I think what we discovered is we’ve gotta get to the root of the issue before they can move forward.
Q What’s the core appeal of wholesome small-town dramas like this? The genre has really taken off in recent years . . .
A MORGAN: These kinds of shows have such a sense of community and belonging and support — and being seen. Who a person is holds value, not what they do or how fast they do it. I think that’s what’s so special about these shows, and what people like to see and be reminded of.
CHAD: Also, there are a lot of small towns out there — a lot of themes we deal with in this show that people deal with on a daily basis. You’re either gonna identify with something that you see and go, “I’ve been in that situation,” or you’re gonna see a character and go, “Gosh, that reminds me of me, or my uncle, or my sister, or my mom.”
Q On that note, Sullivan’s Crossing is more grounded than some other, soapier small-town dramas . . .
A CHAD: Give us a few more seasons. We’ll jump the shark, OK? My ex-twin brother shows up . . . It’s gonna happen!
Q What’s the most memorable fan encounter of your career?
A MORGAN: Prior to Sullivan’s Crossing, I had done When Hope Calls and I had someone tell me that they’d gone through a very traumatic part of their life, filled with grief. In that time, the sense of light that they had was watching the show. It was just a breath of fresh air and an easy watch. That’s always stood out to me — to be able to take some of the heaviness off of people’s day-to-day.

They are like very tiny powerplants that produce energy in every living cell of our bodies. On average, every cell has 1,500 mitochondria. Can you imagine that for their extremely small size, it’s been said that they produce, gram for gram, 10,000–50,000 times more energy than the sun?
To say that mitochondria are important to human health is grossly understating their role in our
survival. We literally would not be alive without them. They convert our food into energy, so that every other function of our body can occur as it needs to. As we age, our ability to create healthy mitochondria to support our energy demands diminishes. And because about 90% of our cellular energy is produced by mitochondria, this decline can cause significant health issues
