The Connaught Cup playdowns unfolded usually until a “Western” winner faced an “Eastern” winner in the national final. The competition was suspended from 1916-18 (during the Great War). In 1920, Hamilton received a bye into the final while Winnipeg and Fort William had to play through a semi-final. In 1922, Fort William withdrew from the Eastern competition, allowing Toronto Ulster United to advance to the final. The national winner was awarded the Connaught Cup.
