NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation statutory holiday is observed on September 30th of each calendar year. This holiday was established to honour survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools. Although Canada Cartage observes this day in February, we encourage staff to recognize this day with two minutes of silence at 9:30 AM local time. We also encourage staff to wear orange to raise awareness of residential schools' tragic legacy and honour the thousands of survivors. SAFETY CORNER
DRIVING SAFELY AROUND SCHOOL BUSES School buses carry some of our most vulnerable road users. Knowing what to do when you encounter a school bus helps keep children safe. When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, drivers approaching from either direction must stop at least 20 meters away and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing, the stop arm is retracted, and it is safe to proceed. The exception is when approaching from the opposite direction on a divided highway with a physical median, where traffic does not have to stop. Drivers travelling behind the bus must always stop. Know the Signals Flashing amber lights: The bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and be ready to stop. Flashing red lights and stop arm: Stop and remain stopped. Moving again: Wait until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm is retracted before proceeding. Stay Alert Never pass a school bus displaying flashing red lights. Maintain at least 20 meters between your vehicle and the stopped bus. Watch carefully for children who may suddenly enter the roadway or emerge from blind spots. Obey posted school-zone speed limits. Be especially alert during morning and afternoon school travel times. Remember that failing to stop for a school bus can result in significant fines and demerit points. A few extra seconds of patience can help ensure every child gets to and from school safely. WWW.CANADACARTAGE.COM

WORK SMARTER — AND SAFER — WITH AI AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Grok can help us brainstorm, summarize information, improve writing and tackle everyday questions. The key is knowing how — and when — to use them. A few tips to get better results while using AI responsibly: Be specific. Tell AI what you need, who it’s for and the tone you want. Better instructions usually mean better results. Give it context. Ask AI to explain something for a beginner, review it from a customer’s perspective or take on another relevant point of view. Protect information. Never enter confidential company information, passwords, personal data or customer information into public AI tools. Follow company policies for approved AI tools and data. Check the answer. AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Verify important facts, calculations and sources before using them. Keep the human in the loop. AI can generate and analyze information, but it doesn’t replace human experience, judgment or accountability. AI is your copilot — not your autopilot. Use it to work faster, explore ideas and get a head start. Then bring the most important ingredient: your own judgment.

STAY STRONG WITH STRENGTH TRAINING Strength training isn’t just about lifting heavy weights or building big muscles. It’s about keeping your body strong, capable, and ready for the demands of everyday life. Regular strength training can help improve muscle strength, support healthy bones and joints, improve balance and posture, and make everyday activities—like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, or lifting objects—feel easier. Maintaining strength also becomes increasingly important as we age, when we naturally begin to lose muscle mass. The good news? You don’t need a gym or expensive equipment to get started. Simple bodyweight exercises can make a difference: Chair squats: Sit down on a sturdy chair and stand back up using controlled movements. Try 8–12 repetitions. Wall push-ups: Place your hands against a wall, step back slightly, and slowly lower your chest toward the wall before pushing away. Calf raises: Holding a chair or counter for balance, slowly rise onto your toes, pause, and lower your heels. Seated leg extensions: While sitting upright, straighten one leg, pause briefly, then lower it—alternate legs. Carry and hold: Carrying manageable household items or holding them at your sides can help strengthen your hands, arms, shoulders, and core. Start gradually, focus on good form, and choose movements appropriate for your ability. Even two or three short strengthtraining sessions each week can help you build a stronger foundation for everyday life. Small movements add up. Stay consistent, stay strong, and keep moving!
