received recognition and a monetary reward for reporting tampered with cartons. This led to TJX’s loss prevention team identifying and resolving a theft case at one of their distribution centres

IT ALL BEGINS WITH SAFETY TAKE CARE ON STAIRS

Stairways are standard in workplaces but can pose a risk of serious injury, or even death, from falls. Since some employees use stairs regularly, it often feels routine and low risk. This familiarity can lead to unsafe behaviour, especially when distracted or rushing. Most accidents happen when employees aren’t paying attention or multitasking.

To stay safe, employees should:

Always use handrails when going up or down stairs, which provides support, stability, and security.

Watch out for environmental hazards like ice, snow, or rain.

Keep stairs clean and free of debris.

Avoid using stairs or landings for storage.

Take one step at a time when using stairs.

Don’t multitask. Avoid using your mobile device when going up or down stairs.

Remember, three points of contact are always good practice on stairways two feet on the steps and one hand on the rail

TRUE NORTH ABOVE AND BEYOND WINNERS

The True North program recognizes company drivers and staff who have demonstrated outstanding customer service, teamwork, and core values. The program encourages managers, supervisors, and coworkers to acknowledge employees with specially designed recognition cards and certificates.

Quarterly, a team in each region (BC, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec) reviews all submissions and looks for exemplary actions our staff took. Those who have gone "Above and Beyond" will receive a $50.00 gift certificate. There are multiple awards per region each quarter.

BEWARE OF FAKE AMAZON PRIME RENEWAL EMAILS

Recently, scammers have been targeting Amazon Prime members with fake emails claiming their membership is about to expire. These emails include a link to a PDF file, which then takes you to a fake Amazon login page. Although the page looks real, it is designed to steal your information.

Here’s what happens:

You receive an email saying your Prime membership is expiring.

The email contains a link that opens a PDF file. The PDF redirects you to a fake Amazon login page.

If you enter your login details, the page asks for additional personal information like your home address and credit card number.

If you provide this information, the scammers steal your data instead of renewing your membership.

How to Stay Safe:

Be cautious with attachments: Only open attachments from emails you expect. Check directly: If you ’ re worried about your Prime membership, log in to Amazon directly via their official website or mobile app

Question urgent emails: Emails that pressure you to act fast or ask for sensitive information should be treated with skepticism If unsure, contact Amazon directly using contact details from their official site

CANADA CARTAGE SUPPORTS LOCAL HOCKEY IN SASKATCHEWAN

This past December, Dallas Lowe, Operations Manager, donated two Canada Cartage semi-trucks to a local minor hockey league’s fundraising raffle in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. The donation helped support community sports and provided a fantastic opportunity for local families.

Pictured in the photo are Robert and Gemma Kerr enjoying a lively game of air hockey. Robert plays for the U9 Strasbourg Maroons, while his sister Gemma is a member of the U7 team. Their involvement in the league highlights the close connection between our community and the sport

Robert, whose family runs a farm in the area, has always been fascinated by everything mechanical especially trucks. During the event, he had a great conversation about the different types of equipment and trailers, discussing what kind of truck is needed to haul specific loads. His enthusiasm for trucks made him a perfect recipient for our donation.

After the event, Robert’s father shared that our Canada Cartage truck holds a special place in his fleet, reserved for only the best We’re honoured to have our truck serve as a valuable asset and as the “ game sponsor ” for a fun and competitive air hockey match between siblings

We are thrilled to support local hockey and community events and look forward to many more opportunities to get involved in the future.

SPRING THAW REGULATIONS ARE COMING TO A ROAD NEAR YOU!

Many Canadian provinces implement a “Spring Thaw” policy each year, enforcing reduced trailer load restrictions to protect roads when they are most vulnerable to damage due to high moisture levels. Enforced by each province, the policy restricts loads carried across at-risk highways for a fixed period. According to the vehicle’s axle type and configuration, restrictions can vary between 8% and 20%.

For more information about the thaw period and weight restrictions of individual provinces, please visit the following:

Alberta (http://www transportation alberta ca/522.htm )

British Columbia (http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/bchighways/loadrestrictions/loadrestrictions.htm)

Manitoba (https://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/srr/ )

New Brunswick (https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/dti/trucking/content/spring_weight_restrictions.html)

Nova Scotia (https://novascotia.ca/tran/trucking/springweight.asp)

Ontario (https://511on.ca/list/seasonalloads?lang=en)

P E I (https://www princeedwardisland ca/fr/information/transports-et-infrastructure/seasonal-weight-restrictions) Quebec (https://www.transports.gouv.qc.ca/fr/entreprises-partenaires/ent-camionnage/degel/Pages/Periode-de-degel.aspx) Saskatchewan (https://www.saskatchewan.ca/truckingweights)

Ensure that you are compliant with provincial Spring Thaw regulations. Failure to do so can result in steep penalties, downtime, vehicle performance, and road safety.

WELLNESS CORNER

MARCH IS NUTRITION MONTH

March is Nutrition Month a time to focus on eating well and feeling your best. This month encourages us to try balanced meals, learn about healthy foods, and make small changes that improve our daily lives It’s a chance to learn about important nutrients, proper portion sizes, and why whole foods can be better than processed ones.

During March, experts suggest adding a mix of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats to your meals. Eating various colourful, nutrient-packed foods can boost energy, help digestion, and strengthen your immune system. Simple changes, like swapping sugary drinks for water or herbal teas, can make a big difference in your long-term health.

Nutrition Month isn’t only about what you eat it’s also a reminder to keep moving and take care of your body. Try to include a little physical activity in your day, too; a short walk or a few stretches can refresh your body and mind.

This March, take a moment to think about how you can improve your eating habits. Educate yourself about nutrition, experiment with new recipes, and commit to small changes that add up over time. By taking care of yourself one bite at a time, you invest in a healthier future for your body and your life

SPRING AHEAD – BUT BE CAREFUL ON THE ROADS TIME CHANGE

Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at 2 a.m., marks the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST), when most Canadians will move our clocks forward Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and some remote areas of B.C., Ontario, and Quebec do not use DST and stay on Standard Time year-round.

The days after we “spring forward” and “fall back” both see an increase in fatal traffic accidents. In addition, several studies have shown that workplace accidents and heart attacks are more common the week after the time change. Here are some tips to help you to better deal with the change:

Move your clock forward early, say 8 or 9 p.m., then go to bed at your normal time. You’re giving up an hour during the day but will stay on schedule sleep-wise

Skip the snooze button Keeping a good routine when going to bed and waking is key to an easier transition. One day a year of change isn’t enough to mess up your schedule as long as it isn’t routine.

Get plenty of sunlight once you are awake. Daylight is a cue to your internal clock to stop producing melatonin, the hormone that makes you feel sleepy.

If you ’ re sensitive to the time change, don’t over-schedule yourself for the first few days. Doing too much can make those feelings of fatigue even worse

Be extra careful on the road The darker part of the day now falls in the morning, and people may be tired So it’s a good time to play it extra safe on the roads.
