Whether you ’ re behind the wheel of a personal car or operating a commercial fleet vehicle, taking the time to fuel safely protects both people and property. Here are some key safety tips to keep in mind every time you approach the pump

Engine Shutdown:

Shut off the engine before refueling to remove ignition sources.

No Smoking or Open Flames:

Do not smoke or use open flames near fuel pumps due to the risk of fire.

Cell Phone Use:

Do not use cell phones at the pump to avoid the risk of static ignition

Grounding:

Touch a metal part of the vehicle (away from the nozzle) to discharge any static electricity.

Hygiene:

Avoid skin and eye contact with fuel; wash your hands thoroughly after fueling.

Stay with the Vehicle:

Stay with your vehicle while fueling to monitor and prevent any issues

Patricia takes great pride in her work, brings a positive attitude to every day, and is well-liked by both our team and customers.

Kore Charles, Company Driver, Mississauga, Ontario

Kore received high praise from our customer for his exceptional service during a recent delivery Despite challenging weather and job site conditions, Kore successfully delivered all the items on his truck and even went above and beyond by offloading merchandise from the store’s own truck when their drivers were unable to do so. His impressive driving skills and can-do attitude did not go unnoticed, earning him recognition and thanks from both the customer and the Home Depot team.

Kelli Leblanc, Human Resources Generalist, Edmonton, Alberta

Kelli has been nominated for her leadership and dedication While a formal onboarding process already existed for hourly employees, there was no structured program for salaried staff. She created a comprehensive program, ensuring that new salaried employees feel welcomed, informed, and connected to our company culture from day one. Kelli’s efforts reflect our core values and have made a lasting impact on our organization.

Robert Triemstra, Company Driver, Ottawa, Ontario

Robert is known for his punctuality, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile Customers consistently praise him as a pleasure to work with, and he’s always ready to lend a hand on weekends when needed. He completes his work efficiently, keeps his paperwork accurate and easy to read, and maintains his truck in spotless condition. He’s also quick to offer helpful advice to fellow drivers, making him a valued member of the team.

Jaswinder Mahal, Warehouse Worker, Edmonton (Nisku), Alberta

The remaining inventory was destroyed as a precaution. Jaswinder’s attentiveness and responsibility helped prevent a larger issue and protected both the customer and our operations.

Interstate Batteries of Tri Cities

Don Kropfmuller, Company Driver, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia

Our driver, Don Kropfmuller, was outstanding. He kept in touch regarding his arrival time, which was delayed due to a ferry and out of his control. On site, he was extremely pleasant and very adept at maneuvering his truck and the forklift in our tight parking area. He was a charming fellow all around, and we appreciated his excellent service.

Kore Charles, Company Driver, Mississauga, Ontario

I wanted to share some information about yesterday’s delivery My customer said the driver that you sent, Kore Charles, was amazing. Given the weather conditions and the state of the job site, the driver successfully delivered all the items on his truck. He was even able to offload the merchandise from our store’s delivery truck, as our drivers were unable to do so. Our drivers were pretty astonished by his driving abilities. Just another case of going above and beyond, and I just wanted to say thank you!

CYBERCRIMINALS AND AI

Cybercriminals are using artificial intelligence (AI) to try to trick you into clicking on malicious links You receive a text message or voice call from someone claiming to be a senior government official. They will attempt to establish a friendly relationship with you by sounding genuine, thereby making the official appear trustworthy.

But these messages are fake and were created by AI. No matter the message you receive, the “official” will eventually ask you to use a different messaging app to continue the conversation. They will then send you a link that is supposed to take you to the new app However, the link is malicious If you click it, cybercriminals will be able to access your data and personal information!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a phishing scam:

Be suspicious when strangers attempt to form friendships quickly through text messages or phone calls. Scammers will often try to become friendly with you so that you will be more likely to fall for their tricks.

Never click on links sent to you by an unknown person. These links could install malware, steal your data, or take you to fake websites designed to capture your personal information

Be careful about messages from anyone claiming to be a government official, even if they act friendly. Scammers could use similar tactics anywhere in the world to try to steal your data!

WELLNESS CORNER

BACK-TO-SCHOOL LUNCHES

Healthy eating is vital at every age, but especially for children. Good nutrition supports learning, focus, memory, behaviour, mood, and overall brain development.

A balanced diet should include a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy or fortified plant-based alternatives. Beverages should be nutritious and low in added sugar.

If you ’ re unsure where to start, Canada’s Food Guide is a valuable resource. It recommends filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables, one-quarter with whole grains, and one-quarter with protein-rich foods. Water is the drink of choice.

Smart School Lunches

When kids bring meals from home, a nutritious lunch helps fuel their energy and concentration throughout the day.

Whole Grains: Aim for at least half of your child’s grains to be whole grains. Look for bread, wraps, or crackers made with whole wheat, oats, or brown rice. Sandwiches, pita pockets, or grain-based salads are easy go-to options. Proteins: Choose lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, lentils, tofu, nuts, and lower-fat dairy options A sandwich with nut butter (if school policy allows), a hummus wrap, or warm chili in a thermos are great lunch ideas Add extras like yogurt, cheese, or a handful of nuts for a protein boost.

Fruits and Vegetables: Children need approximately 1½ to 2 cups of fruits and vegetables daily. Fresh, frozen, or canned (in water or juice) are all great choices. Pack sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks with dip, or whole fruits like apples, bananas, or grapes. Dried fruits, such as raisins or apricots, also make easy snacks. Drinks: Water is best Milk or fortified plant-based beverages (such as soy or oat) are also excellent sources of calcium Avoid sugary drinks such as pop, juice, and energy drinks

Tips for Lunches They’ll Eat

Get them involved: Let your child help choose and pack their lunch items.

Stick to familiar foods: Kids eat what they know and enjoy. Offer variety: A mix of options lets them pick and snack later

Nutritious lunches set your child up for success, at school and beyond.
