SAFETY CORNER

KEEPING ACTIVE AT THE OFFICE

Many people find their work day consumes most of their waking hours. If you work in an office, here are some strategies to incorporate more movement into your day: Take breaks by moving to a different room. Try stretching rather than staying seated.

Aim to stand up and walk around at least once per hour.

For extended calls or when you need an energy boost, keep small hand weights or a resistance band at your desk for exercises.

Consider walking or moving during informal discussions and brainstorming sessions.

Explore different options, such as alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day and taking frequent walking and stretching breaks Here are tips to make it easier to integrate more standing and movement into your workday:

Wear comfortable shoes and flexible clothing, or keep sneakers at your desk.

Use a cushioned floor mat and other supports to reduce foot and leg fatigue when standing.

Schedule physical activity on your work calendar as a priority appointment

WELLNESS CORNER

HEAT EXHAUSTION

As summer gets hotter and more humid, it's essential to be aware of the risk of heat exhaustion Older adults are especially at risk because of chronic illnesses, medications that affect cooling, social isolation, and poverty. Children are also vulnerable due to their physical characteristics and reliance on caregivers. People with breathing difficulties, heart problems, or mental illnesses are also at higher risk.

Those who work outdoors, like commercial truck drivers, and those who exercise intensely in the heat face more significant risks.

It's important to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion: skin rash, headache, muscle cramps, rapid breathing and heartbeat, dizziness or fainting, extreme thirst, nausea or vomiting, dark urine, decreased urine output, and heavy sweating If you have any of these symptoms during extreme heat, move to a cool place and drink fluids, preferably water

Heat stroke is a serious condition that needs immediate attention. Symptoms include high body temperature, confusion or lack of coordination, dizziness or fainting, and hot skin without sweating. If you think someone has a heat stroke, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. While waiting for help, move the person to a cool place, apply cold water to their skin, and use a fan if available.

GET CONNECTED DON'T MEDAL WITH OLYMPIC SCAMS

With the Paris Olympics ongoing, be on the lookout for phishing emails and text messages pointing you to Olympics-branded websites or offering discounted merchandise. Cybercriminals will take advantage of all the excitement around the Olympics to try and steal your personal information or money.

Billions of cyberattacks were launched during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and this year's event is proving to be just as popular Online criminal activity has increased, with fake Olympic tickets being advertised, counterfeit Olympic-branded websites appearing, and stolen personal information being sold online.

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to any Olympics-related scams: Be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages about merchandise or deals If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Only purchase souvenirs from official websites or vendors.
