THREE CRITICAL THINGS TRUCKERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TAILGATING
THE BEAVER: SUMMER 2023

TRUE NORTH ABOVE AND BEYOND WINNERS
The True North program recognizes company drivers and staff demonstrating outstanding customer service, teamwork, and core values. The program encourages managers, supervisors, and coworkers to acknowledge employees with specially-designed recognition cards and certificates.

Quarterly, a team in each region (BC, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec) reviews all submissions and looks for exemplary actions our staff took. Those who have gone "Above and Beyond" will receive a $50.00 gift certificate. There are multiple awards per region each quarter.
Quarter 2 "Above and Beyond" Winners of $50.00 Gift Certificates
The committee reviewed all submissions and chose the following employees for this quarter's "Above and Beyond Award".
Harmanpreet Singh, Telecom Analyst, IT, Mississauga, Ontario
Harmanpreet was recognized for helping out the Safety & Compliance team in Quebec. The group encountered technical issues while preparing mobile devices for new drivers joining the team. Even though it was a Sunday, Harman stepped in to solve the issues, and the devices were ready for deployment to the new drivers on Monday.
Charlemagne Ortiz Acosta, Company Driver, Edmonton, Alberta
Charlemagne had completed a thorough post-trip inspection. He found a significantly cracked rim on his steering axle during his inspection. The cracked rim could have resulted in a serious event if missed on the inspection. Based on the photos of the rim, the Safety and Compliance team commented that Charlemagne avoided "a catastrophic failure".
Antoine Semaan, Company Driver, Port Coquitlam, B.C.

Antoine was recognized for showing great responsibility and dedication toward his scheduled loads. The operations team noted that he always goes above and beyond to support new highway drivers by coaching and providing them with extensive training, including training five new highway drivers this past quarter.
Behruz Kaveh, Company Driver, Port Coquitlam, B.C.
The B.C. operations team received an email from Canada Bread praising Behruz's hard work. "Wanted to send this note to let you know that Behrouz has been extremely helpful at the Langley distribution centre, especially the last two weeks. He is always going above and beyond to ensure we are set up for success! "
Navjot Kaur (Dhaliwal), Dispatcher, Port Coquitlam, B.C.
Navjot was recognized by the operations team for collaboration. The group commented on his helpfulness and fantastic attitude. Navjot also works hard to unite the team and make his coworkers and drivers feel welcome and appreciated.
Martin Gregoire, Dispatch & Dock Supervisor, Laval, Quebec
After Montreal and Laval lost electricity for three days during an ice storm, the Laval dispatch team, headed by Martin, recovered in record time. The team recovered the Matrix (Pharmaprix) deliveries within three days, avoiding customer service failures.
Evelyne Anderson, Manager, Fuel Tax, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Evelyne is an extremely dedicated employee who goes above and beyond her duties, always helping others who have questions. She picks her staff up or takes them home if they don't have transportation. Evelyne arranges cake for their birthdays and is always willing to listen.
Mario Liparoti, Facilities Technician, Mississauga, Ontario
In early April, a major roof drainage pipe burst within the warehouse at our Davand Drive location in Mississauga. On the same day, the operations team was hosting an onsite face-to-face meeting with our customer, Guilbault. Many senior leaders from both Canada Cartage and Guilbault were slated to be onsite only two hours after the pipe burst! Mario was called on his cell and arrived onsite within minutes. He went up in a cage, and was able to reconnect the piping and seal off the joint.
Jyoti Khosla, Operations Coordinator, Edmonton, Alberta
Jyoti stepped in to assist a teammate with their workload. Jyoti's efforts ensured that there were no customer service issues.
Tylor Wright, Warehouse Worker, Edmonton, Alberta
Tylor has been a vital part of the success of our contract with Home Depot for the past three years by practicing teamwork and selflessness each day. Tylor dedicates his downtime to helping his peers and offering assistance. He understands the importance of communication, never taking on a task without clarity, and always helping to make a new employee feel like part of our team. If anyone on the team is struggling with their workload, Tylor is happy to offer whatever time and effort he can to help.
Stephen Critch, Warehouse Supervisor, Brampton, Ontario
A garbage can located at the front of the building was reported on fire. Stephen wasted no time, dropped everything he was doing, and quickly assessed the situation. After observing that it was safe to extinguish the fire, he grabbed the nearest fire extinguisher and put it out. The garbage can was 5 feet from the building and 3 feet from a picnic bench. If Stephen was not quick to act, the damage could have been much worse.
Jason Paul, Operations Coordinator, Calgary, Alberta
Jason was recognized for his dedication towards his work and Canada Cartage. When he joined the company, he was able to learn his new role quickly. Jason took ownership of several accounts to ensure customer service needs were met. Recently, he covered three night shifts over a weekend due to a staff shortage.
Todd Bolton, Company Driver, and Morris Lazowski, Company Driver, Edmonton, Alberta
Todd and Morris were able to help our customer when the load they received was overweight. They were in constant contact with the customer and their highway supervisor and were able to hand-bomb the extra pallets off to a safe location. They could then continue the delivery with little delay, and meet our customer's service expectations.
Claude Paradis, Company Driver, Edmonton, Alberta

Claude noticed that his truck had developed a leaking radiator hose. Claude jumped into action, securing buckets to catch the antifreeze and repairing the leak himself. This saved the expense of the repairs and the cost of a potential environmental cleanup.
Congratulations to all of the winners! As quarterly winners, they are now eligible to be selected as one of our three 2023 President's Award winners. See below!

SAFETY CORNER THREE CRITICAL THINGS TRUCKERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TAILGATING
One of the most important defensive driving techniques for professional truck drivers is to avoid tailgating. Here are three of the most important best practices to follow to stay safe on the road and not be a tailgater.

1. AvoidingTailgatinginaCommercialTruck isHarderThanYou'dThink
Trucksrequirealotofroomtocometo asafe stop. Onsomehighwayssuchasonmanyportions oftheTrans CanadaHighway, itiseasierto maintaina reasonable distance infrontof yourvehicle.

However, whentravellingthroughheavilycongestedtraffic, likewhatyou'd seeontruck routesthroughMontreal, Toronto,orVancouver, this isoftennot possible. Putyoursafetyfirst. GET CONNECTED ONLINE GAMING CYBER SAFETY
Online gaming is a fun, social experience. More than half of all Canadians participate and identify as gamers. Computers, consoles, and mobile devices grant users multiple platforms to choose from and allow people to play on the go. With the increase in gaming popularity, cyber criminals are also stepping up their game to get your information. Here are some steps that you can take to protect yourself:

When chatting in an on-line game, never reveal personal information such as location, gender, and age. Choose a user name that does not give away your identity, such as MegaGamer123. Make sure that your game and game launcher are up to date. Patches that are part of updates add new features, and they can add security fixes too. Before launching your favourite online game, it is imperative to ensure your software is up to date to keep online attackers at bay.
When gaming on a computer, the key to online safety is installing an up-to-date firewall, anti-spyware, and antivirus software.
When adding game modifications, custom content, or downloading game add-ons, always scan any downloaded files with your anti-virus software before beginning the game.
As with all online accounts, gaming accounts should use unique passwords or passphrases. These should all include upper- and lower-case letters, special characters, and numbers.
Remember, only you can protect your online gaming experience.
