Advantages Of A Small College

Although there should be many factors in choosing a college after high school, many students' first consideration is size. They ask themselves: Do I want to attend a small college or a large university? There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and depending on what the student will like they will most likely choose a school that is the right size for them. Some pros about small schools is that they have small class sizes, hands–on learning opportunities, and a strong sense of community. However, some cons to small colleges are that they have less sports excitement, a limited campus experience, and limited academic choices. When discussing the pros of large colleges, some advantages are that there are a wide variety of majors and courses, a variety of housing opportunities, well–funded sports programs, and the cost is lower. On the other hand, some cons to large colleges are limited athletics opportunities, freedom to be distracted in class and not pay attention to the professor, and difficulty in getting individual attention from professors. There is no clear right or wrong; it just depends on what you prefer. One of the major advantages of small colleges are the opportunities for hands–on experiences as opposed to the lectures of larger colleges. Small class sizes can be beneficial to some students. Some may prefer a class of fifty, while others would prefer a class of one hundred and forty. Although there are some classes in large schools that are smaller, the

Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself many personal and financial expenses as well. Going to a college in a big city is going to be overpriced because in a big city everything is really expensive including housing, but if I were to...show more content...

It is proven that there is less probability of crimes in a small town that in a big city. I would want to live somewhere safe because with the probability of attending evening classes, I would feel better knowing the town I live in is safe. I could get to know everyone. I would not feel like an outsider or feel as though I did not belong like I would in the big city. I would feel more comfortable attending a small college coming directly from a small high school. A lot of people say that you have better opportunities going to a big college than going to a small college, but I believe attending a small town college is better at least for me. There would be less distractions, less, expenses, less problems, and I would not feel as far from home. You can still meets new people, make friends faster, and get to know them better. Attending a small college and living in a small town would save me a lot of stress and I would also save a lot of money than if I were to attend a big college and live in a big

I believe that I am an excellent candidate for this program. For me, school is a top priority. I always strive to be my best, and my G.P.A. proves my point. I put 100% effort into everything I do. I am not nervous to talk to adults, and address any questions I have. To be at this high of a level of difficulty demands hard work and devotion, and I have those qualities. There is so much in this program that will help me succeed in life. First of all, this program will help me graduate college a year earlier than the rest of my class. I am already young for my grade, so if I am involved in this program I will graduate college at the age of 20 years old. I will be two years younger than most my graduating class. This will help progress me in life, and give me a jump start. Also, the financial help is huge to me. In my family, the burden of paying for college is placed on the children. I have a job, and a special bank account, and every paycheck that I get goes into that account to make sure I have money for college. But, if I got into this program, the stress of paying for college for two years will be taken off my shoulders. This program goes along with my plan. Afterhigh school, I am going to go to Muskegon Community College and receive my associate 's degree, and then transfer to a state school where I will achieve my masters degree. My ultimate career/educational goal is to go to college and earn my bachelor 's degree. I have not decided what I want to be, or major in, but Get

College Essay Throughout my life I have experienced many things that have molded me into the person I am today, but the one I find most profound involves my coming out as a member of the LGBT+ community. As a child I suffered tremendously with confusion, self hatred, and misunderstanding about my own sexuality. Growing up queer in a small town is never an easy thing. I went through years of denial, and hid all of my thoughts about what I thought could be. I was so muddled in an all too common train of thought that my first conclusion was that I was incapable of loving another human being. Having never experienced honest crushes or any emotional or physical attraction to the opposite sex, I was very frightened for my ability to one day have a family. This thought put me into a mode of paranoia and panic. I began to search any place I could for any other possibility, hoping for some form of medication or therapy to ail me of what I thought was a mental illness. After only a few minutes at the computer, I realized there was nothing wrong with my mind, or capability to love. I am just gay. After this realization, I was still confused and upset as to why I am the way that I am. I questioned if that was actually the solution or if it was just me...show more content... About 3 months after being freed of such horrible denial, I entered my first, and hopefully only, homosexual relationship. While I was ecstatic about this and ready to scream it out to the world, my mom was not. I came out to my mother about 4 months after being in this new relationship, and she was distraught. She still loved me, but was heartbroken by the fact that I didn't turn out to be the daughter she expected. I had hidden my true self from her for years, and she was angry. That first night of her knowing was horrible. I stayed with my grandmother, who i had come out to months before, and just prayed she would calm down

Colonel By is a wonderful school that gives it's students opportunities to be academically, athletically and artistically adept. Even in a school with students blooming with potential, I believe that there are still things that I can add to the wonderful environment. Growing up in Canada, I have been extremely fortunate to have the opportunities to travel and to experience cultures different from my own. I believe that seeing people of many different walks of life has shaped me into an open–minded person. This unprejudiced outlook makes me a great team–player, able to accept the ideas of others and willing to try new things. Furthermore, I am always willing to go the extra mile to accomplish something I want. I believe that this attitude was developed through years of piano and sport. I always try to approach work with this diligent attitude and the results show. I believe that with enough hard work, you can get yourself anywhere. Just because others are born with natural grace or intelligence, does not mean that I cannot surpass that with my assiduity. I naturally want to help others and generally think of others before myself. Which is generally perceived as a good thing, however it also allows others to take advantage of you. Not only do I play soccer outside of school but I was also a mid–fielder on our school soccer team. Good Day Everyone I would like to share my first semester in college life and my experience. My first semester in college. I notice about've been noticing how college freshmen are so obviously college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting people and making friends at National College of Business and Arts. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and remarkable amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spankin' new college freshman. The first semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what I wanted. Not getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of people that I wanted to be friends with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in be interested back. Not achieving the grades I wanted (and kind of assumed I would get). That's just a whole lot of experience...show more content...

And it's an experience that I offer to current college freshmen to learn from. But, even more valuable than my lessons learned, is your own experience. I want to lock down and be completely focused on school and get the grades I want. College is way more enjoyable when you are getting good grades. At one point during my first semester my grades weren't too good, and I wasn't enjoying college. I was always stressed out and worrying constantly. Every time I went to sleep I would worry, and it really affected me. Now, I started the semester off strong and I'm really enjoying college and I have no worries in the back of my mind Everyone has a different adjustment to college. Maybe you're the one who can and will hit the ground running. Or maybe you're like me, and you just need to learn to be patient. So, even if you feel like you're not getting what you want out of college, just realize that it is an experience for you to learn and grow from. Because this is just the

When I walked into college for the first time I had various expectations. Some of which were good and some were bad. For instance, after listening to people talk about it, just the thought of going to college was terrifying to even contemplate, but then sometimes it would appear to be impossible. However, after experiencingcollege firsthand I can say that my expectation and the reality were quite different. Although it can be intimidating, an enormous amount of work, and a considerable amount of stress to handle; college does not have to be terrifying, and is definitely feasible through dedication and perseverance. My first expectation of college was that it would be daunting, and that I would walk through life as a wallflower....show more content... To me, working to achieve my ultimate dream in life, which is to become a registered nurse, is worth all the effort and time it takes to fulfil that dream. Therefore, even though I know it will be hard and is going to take dedication, going to college is the only way to succeed in fulfilling my dreams. To achieve anything in life requires extreme commitment, but if I set my mind to attain a specific goal; there is nothing that can stop me. My expectations and the reality were very different in terms of being capable of managing everything in life in addition to being a college student. For example, in my mind being a college student was going to be entirely too stressful and that I would never be able to handle everything that life throws as a result of being too busy with my studies. On the contrary, being a full time student is not nearly as hard as by brain made it out to be. Once again, as long as college is prioritized properly, also, given that I am diligent in my studying anything is possible. In order to achieve the optimum results education must be at the top of the priority list, and if for any reason it falls below other things; my grades will suffer. Furthermore, diligence is vital to succeeding in college. Although it is intimidating, college does not have to be terrifying. In contrast to my earlier assumption, this phase on life is

My College Experience

Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content...

I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

Describe yourself as a student and also your aspirations for the future. Please include examples from your personal academic and non–academic experiences.

A sophomore at Downtown Magnets High School, I demonstrate passion in my education, ambition in fulfilling my personal and academic goals, and am an explorative student. My passion for learning is the result of my mindset, in that aside from finding education a necessity, it is enjoyable, challenging, and beneficial in fulfilling my future aspirations. For example, I find my Honors Advanced Mathematics class my most unique course. It builds upon my ability to critically think, present data or information, and understand higher–level math at a rapid pace. In particular, it is the ability to solve real–world situations and the underlying mystery mathematicians have yet to solve that intrigues me to continue learning. The class expects much of me, but I am aware that it is preparing me for college– and university–level math while providing me with the skills to pursue a career in Architectural/ StructuralEngineering. Ambitious, I set objectives for myself and arrange to accomplish and excel in the process. For instance, I participated in my middle school's academic decathlon with a chance to represent my school in the mathematics single–subject exam. In doing so, I attempted to score a near perfect to perfect score. While the competition did not end the way I expected, I successfully gained a flawless score on the questions

Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree.

Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material.
