THE TRI-UNITY CENTER The Tri-Unity Center is designed in a way that caters to three aspects of the Christian Faith, emphasizing the growth of an individual’s faith, community engagement, and the vertical relationship between individuals and God. The design of this Christian Study Center is intentionally interconnected through the structure, symbolizing the unity and interaction of these three aspects of faith.

THE TERZETTO P.A.C.

11

The Terzetto Perfroming Arts Center is designed through the definition of the word Terzetto which is an Italian word meaning “a musical composition for three voices.” This name was chosen for this performance center as the project represents the three aspects of Redlands, California in theater form. These aspects include History, Nature, and Art. By isolating each of these aspects into the design by separating the theaters into their own buildings, each feature has an individual focus and specific purpose.

THE INNOVA CENTER

19 13

This project is designed as a Makerspace which in short is place where people with shared interests and knowledge can gather to work on projects. This building is designed in a way that brings together all sorts of imaginative and creative minds. The building references aspects of the New York grid as a way to relate to the role of innovation in the design and the experience through the building. The goal of this project is to allow for people with all sorts of creative ideas to come to a place where they can let their imagination and skills run free to create. The building’s form references these c reative ideas, those already known and those ready for discovery.

THE FOREST RETREAT “Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods. Sleep in forgetfulness of all ill.” -John Muir This proposal for a tiny house provides people with the opportunity to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The woods and forests are places of awe and wonder of the beauty of nature. This place creates a sense of belonging and tranquility for an individual or group of people. The goal is to allow for a single tiny house or multiple tiny homes to move around and find places of serenity in forests. With the small compact design and box shape, the house allows for easy transportation and living.

THE BADAD PAVILION

31

This Pavilion is designed to portray the aspect of isolation. The word “BADAD” is a Hebrew word that means “TO WITHDRAW, BE SEPARATE, BE ISOLATED,” which is what this pavilion is trying to accomplish. The site chosen is set off from the main area of the small mountain, thus causing the pavilion to emphasize the isolation of this site. The pavilion condenses and converges into a specific point where a person must pass through a tight gap to get to the peaceful and isolating portion of the site. The mountain has an aligning feature between a cross, flag, and this site where a straight line can be drawn going through all three. With this idea, the main wall of the pavilion is positioned to align to the cross and the flag.

THE POETRY FOUNDATION

37

This project design and concept aims to continue the purpose of the Poetry Foundation by connecting the world through the imagination and creativity of poetry. Poetry is captivating, and this design aims to represent that aspect of poetry. This project is designed in such a way to bring the creativity and uniqueness of poetry to a place of consistency and regularity. The aspects that inspired this project are the ideas of how poetry is open, inviting, old, new, and inspiring. These ideas are free and meant to bring into newness and originality from the past. This project breaks from the consistency through the freedom and creativity of poetry. Poetry is often like a seed; it has to die in order to bring forth something new and beautiful.
