Camrose County updates

At the County Council meeting on July 14, a hearing was scheduled to discuss Bylaw 1587 to Redistrict Lot 17, Block 1, Plan 2854Z (Pt. NW-1145-21-4) from urban commercial to urban residential.
Receiving no comments from the public, Council approved second and third readings of the bylaw that would rezone a property in New Norway to urban residential. This update allows the zoning to align with the consistent land use in the area. The motions were carried.
There were several intermunicipal agreements that were updated during the meeting. Council passed partnership agreements with the Village of Bittern Lake and Bawlf, which replaced the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) bylaws.
By revising the agreements, they now mirror current provincial legislation as well as preserve inter-municipal relationships.
Council approved that formal ICF’s are no longer required with Wetaskiwin, Stettler, Ponoka, Lacombe, Leduc, and Flagstaff Counties and it has been determined that services between these municipalities are effectively being provided via alternate arrangements.
Council has received progress reports on regional water infrastructure projects and current water heights at Buffalo Lake. Water levels on the lake have risen with the recent rainfall but not enough to sustain long-term targets.
Efforts continue to improve the water infrastructure of the Buffalo Lake water system and address management of the Pelican Point boat launch and shoreline.
Council agreed to join area municipalities to
seek provincial support to restore and provide better access at the Rochon Sands Provincial Park boat launch.
Water levels declining on Buffalo Lake have limited access to the water which has affected tour-
ism, recreation and the local economy.
This joint request urges the Province to fund upgrades at Rochon Sands which stands out as the most affordable and budget friendly spot to bring back public access to the lake.

The health and safety coordinator presented an overview of the position in the County and the work done to reinforce employee safety that includes regulatory compliance and workplace training to County employees.
Council also authorized updates to several
health and safety policies to ensure that all policies are up-to-date and align with legislation while continuing to provide a safe workplace for all employees.
The next Council meeting is scheduled for August 11.
