Opening Thursday! Churchmice Players Community Theatre presents the timeless Jesus Christ Superstar musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The rock opera is loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life, but is seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. The story explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire. The apostle Judas expresses his concern over Jesus’s rising popularity as a king and the negative repercussions that it will have. He strongly criticizes Jesus for accepting his followers’ unrealistic views, and for not heeding his concerns. The nine performances will be held at the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. See details in the ad on page 15.
