releasing 2,000 pheasants in a conservation area north of Daysland this fall. Alberta Conservation Association has taken over the administration of the pheasant release program from the provincial government with the goal of improving the birds’ natural habitat and increasing the number of people who hunt them. Pheasants were introduced into the province as a non-native species in the early 1900s to the delight of wild game hunters, who would go after them every fall. A total of 18,000 pheasants will be released this year across the province.
