Always better – always better read
Under the control of conductor Tom Chelmick, the Mirror Lake Express winds its way around the trails of Mirror Lake.
In 2007, a labour of love, combined with incredible talent, changed hands. Creator Jeppa Danielson sold his hand-built train. Collaborative funding of the $100,000 purchase by City of Camrose, Province of Alberta, City Center Camrose and Camrose Chamber of Commerce allowed Jeppa’s train (now called the Mirror Lake Express) to remain in Camrose for people of all ages to ride and enjoy. Beginning the summer of 2008, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. until dusk, the trail system on the south side of Mirror Lake has become the “rails” for this popular attraction. Tom Chelmick and a dedicated team of volunteers have donated thousands of hours of their free time to operate the train on the fourteen minute memorable ride through the pristine valley. In addition, they have transported the train to parades and special events where the Mirror Lake Express has always been a crowd favourite and often brings home a competition award or ribbon. This visibility has become a terrific way to “put Camrose on the map”. Adding to the excitement of this year’s parade circuit, with stops in Ponoka (2nd place showing), Calgary and Edmonton and a local appearance at the Big Valley Jamboree Parade, is the accompaniment of singers and dancers of the Mirror lake Express from About Time Productions. To become a Mirror Lake Express volunteer, or to rent the train for your activity, contact the Camrose Chamber of Commerce.
