Ukrainian and Belarusian folk holiday is called Malanka. Traditionally, carollers went from house to house on this special evening, playing pranks or often performing a small play. Typically, a bachelor dressed in women’s clothing would lead the troop. In Camrose, Saturday, January 14, Camrose Veselka Ukrainian Dance Society will present a Malanka Ukrainian New Year’s Celebration at CRE. Thirty minutes after the doors open, upwards of thirty Ukrainian dancers in wonderful, colorful costumes will take to the stage. A dinner which includes your favourite Ukrainian dishes will follow at 6:30 p.m. The Polka Ramblers will provide live dancing music following the feast. Although ticket sales have easily outpaced last year's, some remain. Stop by Shuman Insurance or call Chris at 780-672-5522 or 780-672-1168 to get yours before they're gone!
