INTRODUCTION

Now in its 17th year, The London Design Festival starts next week. We are delighted to be involved with our clients who are participating with exhibitions including 100% Design at Olympia and the inaugural I-MADE at the Saatchi Gallery. This is the first exhibition in London dedicated to Italian design and manufacturing, curated by Giulio Cappellini.

Do ensure you visit the V&A and seek out some of the projects installed there, including Kenga Kuma’s Bamboo Ring: Weaving into Lightness through to Canadian designer Matthew McCormick, who will debut Avalanche which reflects concerns on climate change.

An expanded list of now 11 Design Districts with over 400 events in the city provides substantial

Brompton Design District which historically is one of the first will have ‘Nature/Nurture’ as its overall curatorial theme, with Brompton Biotopia commissioned by Jane Withers. designjunction returns again to King’s Cross and will present 200 brands, while The London Design Fair at The Truman Brewery focuses on international countries and brands, including for the first time, The International Craft Pavilion.

2019 marks the 25th anniversary of 100% Design, the UK’s leading design trade event. Introducing some of the industry’s most influential designers, makers and producers, the 2019 show will present a stellar line-up of over 400 exhibitors. Striking installations and projects push the boundaries of design.

Barber & Osgerby have designed an extension to the popular Hotaru collection of handmade Japanese lanterns produced exclusively for Twentytwentyone. New floor and table lamp bases, designed to accompany the existing range of lanterns, will debut as a part of Twentytwentyone’s Edit ’19 exhibition.

Calico Wallpaper is launching in the UK at SCP, and marking its UK retail debut with its new Prism collection.

Prism will be displayed alongside other Calico designs at the SCP East showroom. The new collection mimics the way sunlight travels through glass, transformed into kaleidoscopic flashes of colour.

Calico Wallpaper partnered with Bill Amberg to create a new collection of digitally printed hides.

The collection, which will debut alongside works by five other designers, combines contemporary designs with sustainable and ethical leather, developed to celebrate the beauty of the material.

citizenM commissioned Londonbased artist Emily Forgot to debut her next artwork in the heart of Shoreditch during the London Design Festival 2019. Located at the entrance of citizenM Shoreditch the interactive artwork, entitled Never Lost, is a colourful and tactile maze – a study of the boundaries between real, remembered and imagined spaces.

Crossovers by Adorno will present a range of collections of dynamic works by independent designers from a selection of local scenes, including Draga&Aurel. The exhibition celebrates the designers and communities playing a central role in maintaining and renewing today’s local design and crafts cultures.

KVADRAT AT HOME

Hem unveils its second decorative accessory collection produced in collaboration with Modern Design Review: a new object by Dutch creative Bertjan Pot will form the centrepiece of an installation celebrating the making of unique products with lasting value by the Swedish brand.

London Design Festival sees the launch of the inaugural edition of I-MADE (Italian Manufacture, Art and Design Exhibition). Curated by Giulio Cappellini and housed in Chelsea’s iconic Saatchi Gallery, I-MADE is London’s first exhibition solely dedicated to Italian design and manufacture.

The new Kvadrat at Home showroom is a space designed by Vincent Van Duysen containing the residential offering from Sahco, Kvadrat/Raf Simons, Kinnasand, and Kvadrat rugs. Particularly suited to interior designers, the showroom focuses on upholstery and curtain textiles, as well as rugs and accessories.
