Discover

Columbia The fall semester is wrapping up, the weather is changing, and the holidays are near — that means it’s a great time of the year to explore Columbia! Whether you’re new to the city or it has been your residence for years, here are a couple of things to do for fun.

Stephens Lake Park Columbia is well known for its outdoor beauty and majestic surroundings of state parks, so when winter rolls around, Stephens Lake Park becomes a snowy playground! If you’re up for a sledding adventure, grab some friends and head that way for cold-weather fun (the sled hill opens when there’s a minimum of 4–6 inches of snow on the ground). And when the lake freezes over, grab a pole and go ice fishing, or twirl your way with fellow ice skaters. Keep in mind, when it’s time for a quick warmup, take a break by the fire pit near the Collins Shelter by the sled hill.

Lights Before Christmas An illuminated trail through the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden featuring nearly 1 million twinkling lights and larger-than-life displays of animals and holiday symbols — sounds merry and bright, right? Lights Before Christmas is an annual tradition that stirs the holiday spirit in adults and children, and captures the wonder of the season in a unique way. The event kicks off November 17 and ends on December 30, so there’s plenty of time to take an evening stroll (with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, of course) and let your imagination be captivated by a dazzling light display of elephants, giraffes, tigers, Santa, and more!

Forest Village & Woodlake This is a pretty nice place to live; been here for about one year and still doing well. Price for a two-bedroom is good and the staff are super sweet and helpful.

We have our own personal patio — it’s nice to just sit outside with the dog and enjoy the fresh air. Lots of cool amenities offered here, too. Great price! All-inclusive available — it’s so much easier to pay all of your bills at once instead of paying 3 different bills for just one apartment.
